Pohick Bay Golf Course
About
Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course in Lorton has been one of the area's most popular public courses since it opened in the early 1980s. Playing at Pohick Bay is like playing two golf courses in one, with a front nine that has long, tree-lined fairways and a hillier back nine that features a variety of doglegs and water holes. It is a definitely a shot-maker's course so be prepared to use some creativity and some thoughtful strategizing doesn’t hurt either. The constant up and down of the golf course provides uneven lies and a number of blind shots. The dramatic terrain also makes it a tough course to walk. Trees frame most of the holes, demanding accuracy but also providing a peaceful and secluded feel. Pohick Bay Regional Park Golf Course is popular amongst locals for being one of the most challenging and yet also one of the most affordable courses in the area.

Nice course
Super tough greens, challenging fairways. Looking forward to try again.
Got right out. Excellent greens.
2nd time I have played this course. Had been over six years since the last time. Lots of elevation changes and blind shots. Greens were in excellent shape. Would play again.
The great course to have golf outing
The beautiful course to enjoy the golf with friends and family.
But the management needed to give some attention on the staffing, we had to wait to teeing off every holes. it took us little more than 5&1/2 hours to golf 18 and we saw a Marshall all day but did not governing the golfers at all. Parked his cart middle of wooded area did something and left the area.
I am sure that people are coming to the course to have a great time there, the management need to govern Marshall to their job to golfers pace up.
I wouldn't recommend people to go their unless they fix the staffing issue, nobody wants to wait around to tee off every hole.
this course is great for mony
this coures has great staff frendly and coparative
First timers need to see the course before playing it.
Pohick Bay GC could be a good golf course but there are too many blind shots, too many shots uphill, and punishing for the ladies (120 yard par 3 to a green 40 yards above them). The first hole is a completely blind tee shot to a small narrow fairway that doglegs right - an unfriendly start to the round. It appeared the golf course was receiving a lot of rain, it was soft, grass was growing very heartily in places and dead in others. Greens were sneaky difficult, I do not think anyone in our group had a straight putt all day.
This course has tight fairways
Tight fairways, uphill walks on almost every hole (I walked), great exercise. Finished in 31/2 hours on a hoiliday Monday morning as a twosome with a foursome in front was very pleased.
Great value and challenging
This course is a great layout with unforgiving woods. Greens were in decent condition though fairways were torn up just a bit. I have played this course over 2 dozen times, and always seems to return for a great day of golf.
Course is challenging and tight on some of the holes
Tight on some holes but challenging, moved at good pace, tough par 3's
Fairways Under Repair
There should be an alert on GolfNow. Fairways are basically mud/dirt with a few patches of grass. Cart path only on entire course due to repair work. Greens are nice.
Course was great just a few weeks ago. Would have recommended it then.
This course needs attention
Fairways were in very bad shape and the greens were not much better. Very disappointed in the condition of this course.
Not bad but there are better.
We decided to play this course to try something different. The staff was polite and we were able to tee off 15 minutes early. The guys we were teamed up with were very nice and pretty funny so we had an enjoyable day. As for the course, all tee boxes were in good condition. A lot of the fairways were in pretty rough shape and a few were more difficult to hit off than the rough, which was actually manicured pretty well. Some fairways do slope into the trees but the foliage was not too dense to prevent an easy punch out. The greens were a bit slow but maintained well with the exception of unrepaired divots. As for the layout, most holes where straight or slight dog legs with generous fairways. There were a few blind shots into danger and there is a string of holes on the back nine that were challenging and well thought out. A second outing here would certainly lend to shaving some strokes off. Overall, we enjoyed ourselves but the condition did not warrant the price when Forest Greens is around the corner for only a few more dollars.
Nice course with wide fairways
I really ejoyed playing this course. It was a weekday so it wasnt overly crowded. The course was in good condition.
Great Corse.
This is the only course in NVA that we play from the white tees as it is more than enough for us.
Doglegs, elevation changes and tight fairways make for a rewarding experience.
Don't let the yardage fool you, this course is fun!
Greens, tee boxes excellent shape, fairways good. Rough High and tough.
Due to previous storms, was cart path only which contributed to the slower pace of play. There are number of blind shots, with many of the "safe" areas to hit towards, away from the path. The rough may have been longer than normal due to the previous week's rain, but it was very challenging to hit from and the higher handicappers in our group had difficulty. Overall, the GolfNow rate was a very good bargain for 18 holes.
Decent course
Greens keeper needs a new job. A few holes the pin was less than a couple feet from the fringe. Except for this the play was decent.
A great course right outside of the Beltway.
Living in Alexandria, I've been looking for a new "home course" for a while. I think I've found it with Pohick Bay. The layout is challenging and fun. There's a good mix of length and shot-making required. A couple of the holes are definitely easier to play once you've played there once or twice. There are a couple of sharp doglegs that don't reveal themselves fully until the second shot. But I like the feeling of the place on the whole.
If I had one quibble, it would be that some folks in the clubhouse can be a bit brusque. Otherwise, the place is great.
Solid course
Overall I thought Pohick was a good course. Thr layout is a bit quirky with several blind shots. Greens were undulated and of average pace.
I'm a 16 handicapper and played from the back tees which are only 6,375. In hindsight, due to the lush and challenging rough and narrow fairways I wish I had played the white tees. I'd definitely call this a "play it forward" type of course.
great course
the course is a good shape and the people were nice..
Pohick Bay June 30, 2013
Course was in superb condition, all but one or two fairways in perfect shape (couple were a bit gushy but course had inches of rain the last two days but drainage overall excellent.
Greens were pro tournament, country club quality and this is a municiple course!!
Pace of play was excellent and there was rangers circling frequently (scattered T-storms had a few group cancellations). Got off on time, finished 4 hours and staff was just friendly and fantastic for tips on some of the holes. Best course I've played this year and I've played in No. VA, Fla and Richmond.
