A Pleasant Surprise
staff very friendly. course in great shape. front nine was great. back nine was a little long for my taste. but overall a very nice surprise.
staff and course are outstanding
Staff is great , good practice facilities and course is in immaculate condition .
Enjoyable
I was in town for the weekend and looking for a place to play. The conditions of the course were great . I had a very enjoyable time. I would recommend playing a round . Great value .
Good Choice for a Hot Deal
Excellent muni course. The conditions were excellent, service was attentive, and the course was fun. What I really like is that the penalty for most errant shots is a punch out rather than a lost a ball and a drop. The fairways are generous and from the whites even a high handicapper has a shot at a few GIRs. Even though the course was busy, the pace was pretty good. Playing in a twosome, we rarely had to wait for more than a minute or two. The rack rate seems a little high for a municipal course, but if you can get on for a deal Take It.
Enjoyed playing Dogwood
I liked the fact that the front 9 had wider fairways so that you could get your round off to a decent start. The course forces you to use most of the clubs in your bag. I will be returning to play this course again.
Dogwood-No Dog
Played Dogwood for the first time. The course was in good condition, greens had been recently aerated but no sand. Consists of some long par 3's and short par 5's. Enjoyed the round and recommend you give it a try.
Great course for the money
Very friendly staff, nice course, great deal for the money.
Great Value
3rd time playing at Dogwood Trace and always a great value. Fairways and greens are better than the private course of which I'm a member! Yeah, makes me want to rethink where my $$$'s going. Anyway, fantastic course for the money... very consistent.
Good course
The course here is really good. Front 9 is a little better than back 9 for the fact of hole diversity in layout. Course has a lot of long narrow fairways, so you find that a lot of balls on your fairway is actually from the hole next to you. This past time playing, a group of 6 somehow got together, slowing down everything eventually having a back up of about 5 groups and the Marshall coming and the opening everything up somehow. Tee boxes could use some fixing but still not bad and driving range wasn't working at the time. Overall, would play again here if find a good deal.
Nice, wish I had waited a month
I had not played this course in a long time, I like what the city has done with the place. The greens and bunkers were both in nice shape, but the course is all Bermuda so it would have been a lot better in May. Having said that, I would definitely play here again with my only caveat being I'd play during warm weather months.
Great afternoon
Played 18 after work. The are getting the course ready for the spring. Greens were airated and a little tonight putting. The fairways and tee boxes are still dormant. Still a great course to play.
beautiful day
Golf greens had just been aerated and top dressed, very fast. Bermuda fairways still brown and not much grass to play off in fairways. Golf cart started acting up and barely moving by 15th hole, at which point we saw another pair of golfers waiting to have their cart replaced, as it had quit running.
Great place to play
I played Monday, April 6, 2015. It was a very windy day, the greens had just been aerated, and the Bermuda grass was still totally dormant. Still, the course looked great and the Greens rolled fairly true. Golfnow.com offers some great green fees.
We'll maintained
The course was in great shape, greens were green ,fairways have get to green up, but in good condition. Working on new club house, currently working out of trailer. Staff very friendly.
Worth the trip
Good coarse. Friendly and courteous staff. Would play again.
Worth the drive
Me and a buddy drove down from Richmond about 40 mins to give this course a shot. It was worth it. Very friendly staff. The course is in good shape. I look forward to coming back later this year when things green up a little more. Right now the fairways are still dormant and the greens were recently punched and sanded but still played decent. A few greens gave us a bumpy ride due to the recent punch, but that is expected this time a year for a course that is well managed. The front nine is a lot easier than the back nine. The back nine isn't really much longer than the front nine, but it is very tight. It is obvious that they had to squeeze the back nine together to create full course. There are a few holes on the back nine where if you shank one 50 yards right, you could end up two holes over. Not one, but two holes over. Very tight and somewhat confusing back nine that had me flustered and led to a poor score on the back. There are plenty of holes with water so might be smart to bring an extra sleeve or two if you aren't a iron master. Overall the course is in great shape, friendly staff, pace of play was great. There aren't any remarkable views or anything but if you want to play a course that is in good shape for a decent price I would recommend this course for sure.
FANTASTIC GREENS
While driving from NY to Myrtle for a week of golf, I spent overnight in this VA area and played this course as my first round in over 4 months. Fairways and tee boxes were very wet and it was car paths only but the greens were amazingly dry and fast. course layout is very well designed and fairways are nice width but course is not wide open, lots of tree lined fairways but balls will be found and can be punched back into play. definitely a place i highly recommend if you are in the area, the five par 3 holes are very demanding with two of them being great water holes. greens here are faster and smoother than the first two rounds i have played in Myrtle so far.
Great course for the money
I wasn't expecting much from this course as I drove through the surrounding area; however, I was pleasantly surprised by the layout and condition of the course. We played after a bunch of snow had melted, so it was really wet but you could tell that the course well kept and would be nice during a summer day. The greens are fast, even after all the water. The designer of this course did a lot with the options and although some holes are short, all the par 5s play a decent distance. The front nine is pretty open with room to make mistakes but the back nine is pretty closed off and requires some delicate shots. I really enjoyed it and will definitely be back.
Greens in good shape for winter play
Staff is always friendly and helpful. Greens seem to always be in great shape. I enjoyed the course every time I have played it.
