Great place to play
I played Monday, April 6, 2015. It was a very windy day, the greens had just been aerated, and the Bermuda grass was still totally dormant. Still, the course looked great and the Greens rolled fairly true. Golfnow.com offers some great green fees.
We'll maintained
The course was in great shape, greens were green ,fairways have get to green up, but in good condition. Working on new club house, currently working out of trailer. Staff very friendly.
Worth the trip
Good coarse. Friendly and courteous staff. Would play again.
Worth the drive
Me and a buddy drove down from Richmond about 40 mins to give this course a shot. It was worth it. Very friendly staff. The course is in good shape. I look forward to coming back later this year when things green up a little more. Right now the fairways are still dormant and the greens were recently punched and sanded but still played decent. A few greens gave us a bumpy ride due to the recent punch, but that is expected this time a year for a course that is well managed. The front nine is a lot easier than the back nine. The back nine isn't really much longer than the front nine, but it is very tight. It is obvious that they had to squeeze the back nine together to create full course. There are a few holes on the back nine where if you shank one 50 yards right, you could end up two holes over. Not one, but two holes over. Very tight and somewhat confusing back nine that had me flustered and led to a poor score on the back. There are plenty of holes with water so might be smart to bring an extra sleeve or two if you aren't a iron master. Overall the course is in great shape, friendly staff, pace of play was great. There aren't any remarkable views or anything but if you want to play a course that is in good shape for a decent price I would recommend this course for sure.
FANTASTIC GREENS
While driving from NY to Myrtle for a week of golf, I spent overnight in this VA area and played this course as my first round in over 4 months. Fairways and tee boxes were very wet and it was car paths only but the greens were amazingly dry and fast. course layout is very well designed and fairways are nice width but course is not wide open, lots of tree lined fairways but balls will be found and can be punched back into play. definitely a place i highly recommend if you are in the area, the five par 3 holes are very demanding with two of them being great water holes. greens here are faster and smoother than the first two rounds i have played in Myrtle so far.
Great course for the money
I wasn't expecting much from this course as I drove through the surrounding area; however, I was pleasantly surprised by the layout and condition of the course. We played after a bunch of snow had melted, so it was really wet but you could tell that the course well kept and would be nice during a summer day. The greens are fast, even after all the water. The designer of this course did a lot with the options and although some holes are short, all the par 5s play a decent distance. The front nine is pretty open with room to make mistakes but the back nine is pretty closed off and requires some delicate shots. I really enjoyed it and will definitely be back.
Greens in good shape for winter play
Staff is always friendly and helpful. Greens seem to always be in great shape. I enjoyed the course every time I have played it.
Accomodating
The staff is always very friendly. The course is well maintained and is a great value for the money.
Cant beat $18
Paid $18 for 18 holes. It was a hot deal on GolfNow. Course is dormant but still in great shape. During the summer, it is green and plush.... one of the nicest courses around. If you can get a deal, jump on it.
Nice Track
this is a pretty nice course with a lot of forgiveness on the front nine but not much on the back nine. For the course lengths, the par 3s can be a bit overwhelming as the first two(there are 3 on the front) are in the 220 yd range from the backs (6600) and 210 from the next tees(6300). The par 4s on the front are fairly short though not all easy. Check your yardages to bunkers, etc. and hit less than driver. The back nine is tough, starting with 200 yd par 3 and some tough driving tests and testy greens. Course conditions were good, greens well kept. Would like to see more yardage markers and visible 150 stakes to determine distances for those without gps. Pace can be a little slow at times and had a mix of singles and twosomes that were not joining up. Well worth the money, especially a good deal on Golfnow.
nice layout
Course was in great shape for this time of year. They did a great job of clearing leafs off so balls were easy to find when hit along tree line. Staff was very friendly. Can't wait to go back.
very interesting track
this is a really cool layout that got better as the round went along. I enjoyed everything about the golf course except for it being across the street from a high school that the marching band was practicing outside...which was very distracting. and the only reason why I gave two stars for the food and beverage was because they closed bye 4:30. other than that I would definitely come back.
Varied and challenging setup.
Good municipal course. Played on a sunny late fall day and had a real good day. Nice layout and well maintained. Great deal.
Gets better by the year
The course gets better every year and the improvements seem non stop which is a great thing. This course has plenty of potential and the staff is working on it. The only downfall I would say is the snack bar / pro shop. Very very limited food to snack on but the drinks are the normal. All in all the course is worth wild and keeps me coming back almost every week.!
Great course but no snacks cart or coffee?
It was my first time playing the course, 0806 tee time and about 45 degrees. Got fooled by the front nine, on the card it was very short and not too narrow so played blue tees. Back nine, however, got much longer and a little more narrow. Beautiful course fairly well maintained for this time of year. Pace of play was good. Only downside was no coffee at 0806 at 45 degrees. Easy fix though, now I know to stop and get some on the way
Crowded but fun
Course in great condition. Greens recently been redone so fast and sandy. Greens are still running true and consistent , so that's all you can ask. Great course for the intermediate player, which most of us are. Earlier review had issue with some adjoining fairways, just be attentive of fellow golfers and really not an issue. The layout is forgiving and challenging at same time. Water on a few holes, but mostly no issue . Crowded today and think some had issue with slower than normal play but mid seventies beautiful day middle of October , so was no surprise everyone taking advantage of the day. Love the course and will be back soon.
Pristine Condition
The superintendent and maintenance crew should be commended for the course conditions. Fairways tightly manicured and greens rolled true. Challenging setup from the blues, offering a mix of short and long par 4's. Accuracy required on several tee shots.
Nice
Fairways and Ruff is in good condition. They just plug the greens but the green steel roll really fast
Great Time!
I have been looking at Dogwood Trace for awhile since it's a 40+ minute commute for me but I'm glad I went despite the rain. The fairways are beautiful. The greens were punched last week but still played pretty true. I only stayed for 9 but will definitely be back to see the rest of the course. Highly recommended!
