Dogwood Trace Golf Course

Course is still in great shape. Greens have grown back and are rolling good!

Course was in good shape. Greens were good a little slow. Only complaint was a sign was missing for the 14th tee. Missed the tee and played the 18th, then backtracked and found the 14th.

I've played this course approximately ten times, mostly in 2022. The rough and greens needed to be cut down a bit. Lost many balls just off the fairway because they would just disappear in the high rough. The greens have been so much better in the past. Way too many divot marks and needed to be cut down. Other than that, the course was wide open and the day was beautiful. Overall still a great value and great for beginners and mid-level golfers.

The course looked great, and the front 9 went pretty well. We stopped and used the restroom at the turn literally less than 5 minutes. When we got to the back 9 I don’t know where all the people came from, but every hole was backed up. We thought maybe it was the foursome in front of us and went on around them to find every tee box backed up with people waiting. We only played 10 holes and called it a day…if we had tried to finish, we would only be on the 15th as we speak.

There was enough wind to where the course played a bit longer today, which made club selection an issue on several holes. An awesome day though.

Unfortunately we only played 9 due to the excessive heat. Water on the course was cold and in good supply. There is an ice machine at the pro shop and coolers on the carts.

After 9 holes we were done with temps exceeding 99 by 1:30 pm. We stopped in to talk to the pro and before we could ask for a rain check for 9 holes he was already writing one out for my partner and myself.

We will differently return for our rain check round and additional rounds in the future (when it cools of in VA).

I’ll start with I’ll always love dogwood, always busy here so you almost always have to expect the pace to be pretty slow. But the course it’s self Is always in really good condition, greens are on the slower side and don’t break much, pretty flat for the most part my bud like 2 holes. Staff here is always great. Nice driving range chipping area and putting green. They just got all brand new carts maybe 2 months ago. If your not in a hurry and want to just relax and have fun with your buddies this place is perfect. If your looking to knock a round out pretty quick as a solo or group probably wouldn’t recommend it.

Played again after playing last week. Course in good condition for the number of rounds being played on a public course. Stay was great and we started right at our reserved tee time. Greens were a little slower than last week. Pace of play was good for 7 holes and then came up on a group of 3 that were very slow. They did not let us play thru, but they let a walking twosome that was in front of us play thru. That twosome finished 3 holes in front of this group after going in front of them on #10. I am sure if there was aMarshall, this would have been taken care of. In addition they did not pay attention to signs to return carts to cart path and took them all the way up to the green. We watched them almost run the cart on the green on # 13 after just missing the corner of the greenside bunker with it !! Other than that, we enjoyed our round and will come back again.

The course, as always, is beautiful and well-maintained. The greens, however, always seem to have divots that have been left over by previous golfers.

Again, the only problem I have ever had, is that there is not a ranger to ensure pace of play. It would be nice to have someone come around to make sure that the people who are holding up everyone, either pick up the pace of play, or let the others behind them play through. Win. There is a twosome that is pressing into a foursome for five holes, and they don’t let you play through, it’s extremely exhausting and effects enjoying the round as well as your score.

I have seen arguments break out quite a few times because of this. It is always on the weekend…every time.

This will still never deter me from playing my home course because I’m loyal to the staff, and I’m welcomed every time I walk in by name….Thank you Mike 🤜🤛
