Great course for all ages Photo submitted by u000007489204 on 08/26/2013
A hidden treasure for the costs!
The staff was helpful, the course is in great condition, and the locals possess the proper etiquette to support fast play. Bottom-line: If it takes longer than 4 hours to play a round of golf, the golf course has a Marshall issue and the golfers require etiquette training (slow play = move over). Suffolk GC meets the mark for an enjoyable round! Great job! I will keep Suffolk GC on my list of places to return.
Little grass
The fairways have little to no grass at this time. The fairsways are cut very tight. The greens are very tight too making them FAST!
Nice layout with some challenging putting.
Found the greens to be rather quick, but true. First time here and enjoyed the quiet and beauty. Unfortunately, finally came upon the bottleneck around the 14th hole in a threesome that was in no hurry. Every course has that same issue.
great course for the money
course has been nicely redone . enjoyed it very much
Very very good condition for municipal course
Course is very well maintained and new greens are excellent. Staff inside pro shop and starter very friendly and eager to help. My wife liked so much we got friends and went back again the next day even though a 40 min. drive. Nice visually with good mix of achievable par holes and challenging holes. Will go again.
GREAT VALUE!
FIRM GREENS,UNDERSTAND THEY MIGHT BE NEW. FAIRWAYS ARE HALF GRASS AND HALF WEEDS,BUT ROLL WELL AND EASY TO HIT FROM.NICE PUBLIC COURSE.
Nice Layout
We played this course while vacationing in Virginia. The course has a great layout, but the fairways are in need of some TLC.
A lot of what I call Bermuda style grass in a lot of spots. When you did get in the rough, it was tough to hit out of because of what you dug up when you hit behind the ball. But, we had to consider what we paid for greens fees - which was a super cheap round of golf. We'd probably try this course again in the future when we're looking for a great deal.
Nicely laid out
This course has a nice flow to it. The course was in very nice shape. The greens rolled true. The weather was great and me friends and I had a good time playing this course. Will definitely give it another go using golf now.
Suffulk has done a great 180 change on their greens ... course is much prettier and better maintained from earlier in year ...
Great NEW greens, tee boxs well done, fairways well marked and kept very well. IF only they had more 'water closets'.
Good Value Here
Suffolk Golf Course is a nice muni that is bargain priced, has a decent layout, and benefits from a beautiful setting. It is a relatively open course where houses never come into play. There are a few interesting sharp doglegs that play pretty tough. Pace was a great 3 1/2 hours.
Best value in Hampton Roads
Play on a wooded course in great shape for the price of a cart rental at other local courses. Family friendly and superb staff. Will be back many times.
Great course for price
The golf course is a good deal for the price you pay. I will say that the fairways were a lot nicer that some of the more expensive course around the area.
Not an over used course with enough challenge to keep it interesting.
Early summer work on greens really turned out nice. It was worth the wait for the completion. Fairways also look good. However, the tee boxes seem to have fallen through the cracks on maintenance and they need attention. While still very playable, I was rather surprised to see the crabgrass taking them over. The cart paths need attention as well. Overall, I give Suffolk (4) stars for nice improvements.
this course is good for the price
Although they just got done replacing all the greens, this course still had some work to do with the fairways and bunkers. Other than that a great value course.
Great shape
Fairways and greens were in great shape. Greens were a little hard and fast, but a lack of rain will do that. Definitely coming back to play again. Thanks Suffolk!
Course is pretty wide open and you get your moneys worth.
Wide open, fairways were a little over grown, greens In good shape.
Good track for the value
Cant beat this course at 33$ on a weekend rate, thats not even hot deal. thThe course was in pretty good shape. tThe fairways are decent, The greens though are being aerated are ar a 6/10. A few greens have dead grass and bald spots. Beautiful scenery made up for it by far and the course strolls along very nicely.
Greens are horrible
Greens were awful. I had to club down because the greens weren't holding any shots. Even on high approach shots with my 56 deg wedge...would land and bounce forward 10 feet...I would not recommend this course to anyone in the condition it's in. Oh and dont bother lining up putts...as they will not keep their lines. Do not pay more than $25 for a round there.
Chose Wrong Day
Read about the new greens and was anxious to see how they were. Unfortunately the day we chose is the day the grounds crew had chosen to put a sand top-dressing on all the greens. This made them difficult to read and they were pretty fast, too. My brother and I started on the back 9, while the front was being top-dressed. We got to the front side and on holes 7,8, and 9, the crew had not replaced the flag sticks! We drove the cart up and replaced them on 7 & 8 and caught the attention of a member of the crew on number 9 who replaced the flag stick there. The same thing happened on number 15. A member of the crew drove up and replaced the flag stick after we hit our approach shots. I guess because of the rain lately the fairways hadn't been cut, but were otherwise OK. Will definitely go back in the fall as the layout is a pleasure to play.
Great course for the price
Had a great time...attractive some short holes and some tough decisions on going for it or laying up. Friendly staff and new greens.
