About
Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones design that provides a unique golfing experience. This scenic layout is routed across a 1,400-acre nature preserve that is absent of any commercial or residential development for miles. The golf course wraps around its namesake lake, which has a canoe and kayak launch as well as a fishing pier. Deer, fox, and eagles are frequently seen on the course and there has even been the occasional bear sighting. Water has a prominent presence throughout and there are also several strategically placed bunkers. Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a layout that will force you to be creative with your shot making but it's still approachable enough for high handicappers to tackle with confidence. If you're looking to get in even more golf, sister club Honey Bee is located almost right next door.

Early morning weekend round
A very nice Robert Trent Jones track. Beautiful setting in nature. Greens in very good shape, collars need grass in some places, fairways in good condition with some patchy spots. Good value I will be Back. Staff was friendly.
Stumpy Lake golf course Review
I will give four stars to the golf course on a hole because most of the Tee Boxes could use restoration.
Course in good shape, however…
The course itself was in great shape, one green had some ground under repair. The tee boxes however were horrible, difficult to find a good stance with hard pan dirt that basically felt like you were standing in a hole when teeing off!
Good value for money, but Saturday pace of play was dreadful
Really enjoyed the course, it’s not the nicest, but is great value for the price. My only complaint is that the pace of play on Saturday was really slow. We tee’d off a little after noon and it took my group 3 hours to play the front nine and another 2.5 to finish the back nine for a total of 5.5 hours.
Overpriced
Been using golf now for about 10-15 years first time I was ever charged $35 on GolfNow for hot deal and get to a coarse and they charge me another $35 to play told me it was just reserved the tee time never had to happen before of course is overpriced tee boxes are nothing but dirt one thing I will say to Greens rolled nice
Always love a trip to Stumpy!
Everytime I play this course I like it more. The surroundings are picturesque, and the wildlife is an added bonus. They have the best glizzys in Hampton Roads! The staff is super friendly and fun!
Great course
The greens are pure, good course design. A course you can score low on.
Great experience
I was greeted as soon as I walked in the door. The person at the desk was in a great mood and very helpful, the marshal at the first tee was also super nice and even the grounds crew throughout the course was courteous and nice. Great experience.
Fun local gem
Great course, friendly staff. Has some muddy areas with no grass in the fairways. Also good to mention there’s no locker room so if you’re coming from work you have to change in the bathroom.
Nice course, great setting
Front 9 in a little rougher shape than back, greens were a little rugged 1-3, then improved dramatically, and had just been punched. Back 9 is beautiful, projecting out onto a point in the lake. Some surprising, hard to see water for first time players, unless you have an app to map course.
Pace of play slow on the front, folks in front of us dropped out after 9 and we did not have to wait at all on the back.
Will definitely go back.
