Stumpy Lake Golf Course
About
Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones design that provides a unique golfing experience. This scenic layout is routed across a 1,400-acre nature preserve that is absent of any commercial or residential development for miles. The golf course wraps around its namesake lake, which has a canoe and kayak launch as well as a fishing pier. Deer, fox, and eagles are frequently seen on the course and there has even been the occasional bear sighting. Water has a prominent presence throughout and there are also several strategically placed bunkers. Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a layout that will force you to be creative with your shot making but it's still approachable enough for high handicappers to tackle with confidence. If you're looking to get in even more golf, sister club Honey Bee is located almost right next door.

Stumpy Lake- A Lesson in Patience
Always liked the layout of the course. Was greeted and treated great as I checked in Thr two of us started at approximately 3:50 when we got to the tee box, third group in line. We finished at 8:30, forgoing 18 because of darkness. Pace was horrendous. There was no one to track pace of play so we waited…and waited…every hole. Fairways overall were good. Tee boxes were a mess, needing a hammer to tee my ball. The greens were pretty rough. Between nasty patches that would drastically move your ball as you putted, the lack of golf etiquette ranging from greens full of marks to sand traps full of shoe marks from uncaring players it made the round a bit more difficult.
Don't Play In Front of Members
When I showed up, I learned that we were paired with 2 unknown golfers who just so happened to have the same tee time. My partner is a newbie golfer, and it initially made her anxious not knowing if the people we were playing with were on a different playing level than us. The last thing she wanted was to possibly create frustration with her inexperience. I said aloud to the players who were waiting for us that they can hit and go ahead of us. The Marshall immediately spoke up with a stern voice, "No! You four will be playing!" Gratefully enough, we were paired with two players who had relatively the same amount of skills as me and my partner. Nevertheless, as we were working on the second hole, this same Marshall came up to us and proceeded to tell us to hurry up that there are course members who are playing behind us. We didn't think anything of it because it was a crowded day. However, a couple of holes later, that same Marshall came back around and before he could say something he saw that we were playing to speed of the players before us and ended up saying to my partner, "Go ahead, I'm just trying to get a lesson here." This made my girlfriend a little anxious because, again, she's new to the game and this was the fourth time playing on a golf course since taking lessons back in March. I don't think that Marshall ever went to the players before us especially when we saw one of the players hit three balls while in the tee box. I understand mulligans, and I have even take another shot if the round allows it, but we started to feel targeted. Maybe it was the comment I made at the beginning of the round or the members who just so happened to be behind us. Overall, this was my third time playing at this course, but it was the first time I felt uncomfortable throughout the front nine, and I played a round on Black Friday. The course grounds were not maintained especially when I believe it was hole 8 or 9 where the tee box greens were thicker than the roughs. It was not worth the $45/player, and if I was a member I would be embarrassed to be associated with the course.
Early morning weekend round
A very nice Robert Trent Jones track. Beautiful setting in nature. Greens in very good shape, collars need grass in some places, fairways in good condition with some patchy spots. Good value I will be Back. Staff was friendly.
Stumpy Lake golf course Review
I will give four stars to the golf course on a hole because most of the Tee Boxes could use restoration.
Course in good shape, however…
The course itself was in great shape, one green had some ground under repair. The tee boxes however were horrible, difficult to find a good stance with hard pan dirt that basically felt like you were standing in a hole when teeing off!
Good value for money, but Saturday pace of play was dreadful
Really enjoyed the course, it’s not the nicest, but is great value for the price. My only complaint is that the pace of play on Saturday was really slow. We tee’d off a little after noon and it took my group 3 hours to play the front nine and another 2.5 to finish the back nine for a total of 5.5 hours.
