Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones design that provides a unique golfing experience. This scenic layout is routed across a 1,400-acre nature preserve that is absent of any commercial or residential development for miles. The golf course wraps around its namesake lake, which has a canoe and kayak launch as well as a fishing pier. Deer, fox, and eagles are frequently seen on the course and there has even been the occasional bear sighting. Water has a prominent presence throughout and there are also several strategically placed bunkers. Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a layout that will force you to be creative with your shot making but it's still approachable enough for high handicappers to tackle with confidence. If you're looking to get in even more golf, sister club Honey Bee is located almost right next door.

Stumpy need some TLC

I've played at stumpy numerous times over the years, and while not the most frequent player, the course quality has definitely declined. The greens were horrendous. It's almost like they gave up on them they were so bad. One hole on the front 9 had an enormous dirt patch and a dead patch of crabgrass on it. The tee boxes were like concrete. Couldn't even set my tee the dirt was so hard on just about every hole. I know that we've been in a heat wave, but I played at sewells point last week and they had aerated the tee boxes and the greens were almost perfect. So by comparison, it seems like they've given up on maintenance. I really do love the course but I honestly can't see myself paying full price again for the quality that's being presented.

A Solid Time on a Course that Needs Touching Up

Had a great time with very friendly staff! Only complaint comes down to the greens being in a bit of bad shape.

Worth the money

Course is in fairly good shape. Tee boxes could really use a little love. The rough isn't too high but really difficult to find your wayward balls... Overall an enjoyable round.

My only issue was that we started about 25 minutes after our tee time. The group in front of us had a tee time after ours but got in line in front of us. I understand that slow play can happen, but 7 minutes between tee times seems like it could be extended to 10.

Course was fine.

Tee boxes

I couldn't give him five stars due to the fact that the tee boxes are in horrible shape they need to redo them all other than that very nice course good layout and the greens are nice other than the idiots that don't repair the ball marks you have to repair 10 to 15 ball marks on the Green

Stumpy Lake- A Lesson in Patience

Always liked the layout of the course. Was greeted and treated great as I checked in Thr two of us started at approximately 3:50 when we got to the tee box, third group in line. We finished at 8:30, forgoing 18 because of darkness. Pace was horrendous. There was no one to track pace of play so we waited…and waited…every hole. Fairways overall were good. Tee boxes were a mess, needing a hammer to tee my ball. The greens were pretty rough. Between nasty patches that would drastically move your ball as you putted, the lack of golf etiquette ranging from greens full of marks to sand traps full of shoe marks from uncaring players it made the round a bit more difficult.

Don't Play In Front of Members

When I showed up, I learned that we were paired with 2 unknown golfers who just so happened to have the same tee time. My partner is a newbie golfer, and it initially made her anxious not knowing if the people we were playing with were on a different playing level than us. The last thing she wanted was to possibly create frustration with her inexperience. I said aloud to the players who were waiting for us that they can hit and go ahead of us. The Marshall immediately spoke up with a stern voice, "No! You four will be playing!" Gratefully enough, we were paired with two players who had relatively the same amount of skills as me and my partner. Nevertheless, as we were working on the second hole, this same Marshall came up to us and proceeded to tell us to hurry up that there are course members who are playing behind us. We didn't think anything of it because it was a crowded day. However, a couple of holes later, that same Marshall came back around and before he could say something he saw that we were playing to speed of the players before us and ended up saying to my partner, "Go ahead, I'm just trying to get a lesson here." This made my girlfriend a little anxious because, again, she's new to the game and this was the fourth time playing on a golf course since taking lessons back in March. I don't think that Marshall ever went to the players before us especially when we saw one of the players hit three balls while in the tee box. I understand mulligans, and I have even take another shot if the round allows it, but we started to feel targeted. Maybe it was the comment I made at the beginning of the round or the members who just so happened to be behind us. Overall, this was my third time playing at this course, but it was the first time I felt uncomfortable throughout the front nine, and I played a round on Black Friday. The course grounds were not maintained especially when I believe it was hole 8 or 9 where the tee box greens were thicker than the roughs. It was not worth the $45/player, and if I was a member I would be embarrassed to be associated with the course.

Early morning weekend round

A very nice Robert Trent Jones track. Beautiful setting in nature. Greens in very good shape, collars need grass in some places, fairways in good condition with some patchy spots. Good value I will be Back. Staff was friendly.
