About
Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones design that provides a unique golfing experience. This scenic layout is routed across a 1,400-acre nature preserve that is absent of any commercial or residential development for miles. The golf course wraps around its namesake lake, which has a canoe and kayak launch as well as a fishing pier. Deer, fox, and eagles are frequently seen on the course and there has even been the occasional bear sighting. Water has a prominent presence throughout and there are also several strategically placed bunkers. Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a layout that will force you to be creative with your shot making but it's still approachable enough for high handicappers to tackle with confidence. If you're looking to get in even more golf, sister club Honey Bee is located almost right next door.

Easy, comfortable course
Not gonna really challenge any sort of skill level, but it's so comfortable and relaxing to play at.
Save your Money
How unfortunate that this course was in such poor conditions. Tee boxes had little to no grass and so hard we had to “hammer” the tee into place. Fairways had almost no grass as well. Greens were quite slow. Course needs a lot of work... drought like conditions seemed to be present. Too bad for a Robert Trent Jones design to be in such poor conditions. Green fees charged by golf now hot deals were excessive for the conditions.
Tee boxes were bad
You needed a hammer to get the tee into the ground. Some tees were nearly bare, some needed to be mowed.
Fairways my be harder than the cart path!
The course needs some serious work. The fairways are like hitting off concrete. The greens are poorly maintained and the firing is so chewed up from chipping that you can’t even use a putter from fringe. Tee boxes are so hard some of them won’t hardly take a tee without stomping on it. The entire course needs aeration and maintenance. The whole course is really beat up. Definitely not worth the price to play it.
Good Value for the Money
Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a nice layout and not too difficult for the average golfer. An enjoyable environment and atmosphere. Good price and value.
Enjoyable course that is secluded and relatively easy to get to. Like many courses in Virginia Beach after rainstorms, it get real muddy and expect water on some of the fairways. Drainage is not the greatest, but it is surrounded by marshlands so it is expected. Overall great local golf course.
Great course value
First time playing stumpy lake and I will certainly go back. Course was very wet but that is to be expected with the time of year and weather we’ve had. Greens were quick and somewhat deceptive which made for a fun round.
