About
Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones design that provides a unique golfing experience. This scenic layout is routed across a 1,400-acre nature preserve that is absent of any commercial or residential development for miles. The golf course wraps around its namesake lake, which has a canoe and kayak launch as well as a fishing pier. Deer, fox, and eagles are frequently seen on the course and there has even been the occasional bear sighting. Water has a prominent presence throughout and there are also several strategically placed bunkers. Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a layout that will force you to be creative with your shot making but it's still approachable enough for high handicappers to tackle with confidence. If you're looking to get in even more golf, sister club Honey Bee is located almost right next door.

Open layout
Course was in good shape and it was a decent pace for a beautiful cool fall day!
Good Value - Nice Course
Stumpy Lake is kept in very good condition and the greens are especially well maintained, so you get a smooth roll and slope. I got an excellent price through TeeOff (same as GolfNoow), so it’s good to play a nice course in decent condition for as excellent price.

Great after work course
Merv and the staff make it a pleasure Everytime. Greens are a little choppy but the staff will have it pristine in a week or so I am sure.
Something for everyone
The last time I played Stumpy Lake I was 14 living in Virginia Beach so saying that I played this course before is based more a literal truth than experience. Having said that, I’m 59 now and my experience with the course this time was very good. My wife, who just took up the game 4 years ago, appreciated the generous forward tees. They allowed her to be competitive with me at times, especially on the par 3’s. The greens were a little chewed up, likely from the rate of play but They rolled pretty good and would hold a shot. The fairways were in great shape. We thoroughly enjoyed our round and will play this Robert Trent Jones design again the next time we are in the area.
Course has taken a beating for to weather.
Greens in bad shape. Rough so high you have to step on your ball to find it. Very frustrating day. Need so dry weather to get course in shape.

Course overall in good shape unfortunately the same could not be said for the greens-lots of bare spots on many of them
No Houses!
Stumpy Lake is a very nice public course with no houses. It is an excellent vallue, especially with GOLFNOW.
I will be back in Virginia Beach next summer and will make Stumpy Lake my home course.
Course set up is great
I love the layout for the course challenging but still fun. My only issue was the heavy machinery running the whole time I was playing and not bothering to move off the fairways or turn down the engines. Which slowed the play a bit. I fully understand there was a bad some that came through the area and they did an amazing job getting the course playable so soon afterwards. Even with this issue I still had a great time and will continue to play this course.
Greens need work.
Great looking clubhouse. The staff was nice and professional. The marshal was a great guy that gave us some tips about the course before we started. The course itself was beautiful....until you got to greens. I don't think anyone has ever fixed a divot there. Every putt was a bet on which way your ball was going to bounce. Fix the greens and the rating will be 5 star. The layout was great, it just ended badly on every green.
