Stumpy Lake Golf Course
About
Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones design that provides a unique golfing experience. This scenic layout is routed across a 1,400-acre nature preserve that is absent of any commercial or residential development for miles. The golf course wraps around its namesake lake, which has a canoe and kayak launch as well as a fishing pier. Deer, fox, and eagles are frequently seen on the course and there has even been the occasional bear sighting. Water has a prominent presence throughout and there are also several strategically placed bunkers. Stumpy Lake Golf Course is a layout that will force you to be creative with your shot making but it's still approachable enough for high handicappers to tackle with confidence. If you're looking to get in even more golf, sister club Honey Bee is located almost right next door.

Gorgeous view of Stumpy Lake Photo submitted by Realestateangels on 11/06/2014
Great course
Had an awesome experience at Stumpy Lake. Plenty of well maintained practice areas even though we arrived barely in time to make our tee time. Course wasn't too crowded but play still seemed to crawl along. Our interaction with the staff was overall great; particularly in reference to the starter. The woman who checked us in at the clubhouse simply printed our receipt and handed it to us with a cart key with literally no communication. We almost didn't see the signs for the #1 tee making us nearly miss our tee time. The course was beautiful though and nice layout. We did expect to have more water in play with a name like stumpy lake but weren't complaining as our skill level is only average. Stumpy lake is a pretty forgiving course; especially from the tees. I would recommend this course to anyone.
Woodsy Setting on Edge of City - Nice Get Away
Nice course to play that winds through the woods with dog legs; long 3 pars; challenging 5 pars. Bring your all around game for a good score here. Just a fun place to play.
Surprisingly good conditions
I really enjoyed my round. The greens were true, fairways had nice roll, and even the rough well maintained and cut. I was surprised and impressed.
the course was very good today
The greens rolled very good today.tee to green was well worth the money
Very good
Greens very good. Fairways good. Tees average. Layout traditional. Natural surroundings no houses! 3 inches rain, casual water, but still playable. Staff nice.
Nice!!!
Excellent pace of play. Greens get much better after spring maintenance. We had great weather but be aware playing after heavy rain. Pick a good day and you won't regret it.
Stumpy Lake
Golf course was in good shape. Greens were cut really short. Played in a three some that kept an average pace. Play ahead of us was very slow because of a foursome who hit their drive into the woods every hole, then took a while to look for their balls resulting in a big backup . because they would not let others play through
Having an employee to drive around to speed up play would have helped.
Ole home course
Well it was old home week as I visited my boys in town and one of my local favorites in VA Beach. Stumpy Lake has gone to through a lot of upgrades and it has paid off. The new club house and refurbished practice areas are a tribute to management. The course was in the best shape I have seen it in a long time. The greens were not that fast and the fairways and tee boxes were in good shape. I was impressed with the turn out on a work day but I was able to get in with no problems and the pace was OK. Keep up the good work.
Like Being in a Park.
Course was in good shape overall. Fairways could use a little more water. With plenty of trees throughout the course there is shade the entire way and a little breeze coming off the lake. With the trees and water there are a lot of bugs, so bring some spray. Fifteen to twenty deer along the course and a flock or two of geese it was like being in a park. We played around 4:30pm. Will be back a few more times this year.
A very Pleasant Walk in the Park
This was my 1st time playing the course and I was very pleased with it. The course is moderately challenging with some long 500+ yds par 5's and some interesting water placement on some of the holes. The course plays well for the duffer and the more experienced golfer. The greens and fairways were in good condition. The course in located on the Stumpy Lake preserve which provides a very scenic and idyllic setting for this course. I will definitely play here again
Natures Course
Stumpy Lake is newly renovated in excellent condition. There are NO homes on the course only beautiful natural setting with Cyprus trees and knees with a pristine lake (water reservoir) and other natural settings. We frequently see deer on the course! Can't ask for a better round of golf in Tidewater area! The value can't be beat.
Another round...
Course was in good shape. Greens were hard and very fast. Play was a bit slow, but expected that for a Sunday.
Decent value
Always liked the course layout and scenery. Greens slow and bumpy.
Good course for the average player
The course was in overall good shape. The course is fairly hard throughout the playing surface and has some bare spots under trees. The greens and fairways are in good shape and play smooth.
Good course
Good course for the price. The greens were in good shape even after a turential downpour the night before.
This course was not very challenging, but a great place to work on your game.
I enjoyed this course and it presented some unusually easy challenges, but overall it was a good course to work on your game.
1st Time at Stumpy
Had an excellent first experience and will return.
For 20 bucks...
I got a great deal through golfnow.com to play during prime hours for 20 bucks with a cart. Course was in decent shape. Greens were very hard, particularly on the front 9. I'd play again but not for more than 30.
