Zellwood Station & Country Club
About
A 238-yard par 3, a 259-yard par 4, a treacherous hole called the "Train Wreck" and a five-hole stretch around a cavernous dry lake dubbed "Crater Junction" all help make the semi-private Zellwood Station Golf Club unique. Featuring hilly terrain not often seen at Florida golf courses, the George Maddox design, which opened in 1974, is a challenge. Located about 30 minutes from Orlando, Zellwood Station G.C. is known to be in good shape, especially the greens.

Hole # 10 Photo submitted by webelos on 11/17/2013
Never again
Very disappointed for the price. Reviews online certainly were much better than what the course was. We quit after 9 holes.
Slow start
All was good except a 30 minute wait to tee off at mid-day. Based on the starter's "explanation" for the delay it sounded like a large group had started earlier in the morning - which likely means a number of players had not pre-booked.
The course from——
Fairways and greens are okay
The rest of the course is pretty much gone no grass dirt and almost not playable I will not be back to play this course I drove 48 miles to play it and I am very sorry I did
Great course for the money..
Nice course overall. Excellent food in their restaurant. Will be back soon.
A fun but unusual course for Central Florida
I'm not a big fan of blind tee shots, there are three or four of them on this course and only one of those offers an aim line target, so, playing the course for the first time with others who had not played there adds to the challenge. The course has numerous elevation changes which is unusual in central Florida, and relatively little in the way of water hazards. Only one hole has a significant forced carry (170 yards will clear the water but you need 190 to clear the hazard line, but the hole does offer a dry line bail out option.
Two of the par fives run along the perimeters of very large "craters" or mostly dry sinkholes. Unfortunately for the average amateur this sets up three shot in a row where a draw is the preferred shot. There are also three or four holes with significant slope left of right which also encourages being able to shape shots both ways to avoid running off into the rough (or into the crater).
I played the course on a very wet day (the first course I booked closed for the day due to ponding in the fairways), not as much of a problem on a course with these slopes, but...I would hope the bunkers usually permit normal explosion shots rather than just chunk and runs (it did look like they power rake them to avoid hard packed wet sand).
I look forward to another opportunity to play the course and take advantage of some of the local knowledge gained during the round.
My only real knock was that the 19th hole wasn't open (a Bailey's and coffee would have been welcome after the round) on a Monday (President's day?).
Good value
We enjoy the course & some holes are challenging.
Fun and nice course. Great for beginners
Great course. Great scenery. Restaurant and bar had unbeatable prices and quality products. Great experience and will certainly return soon.
Fun time!
Round was slightly delayed (40 mins) because of a tournament but staff was very friendly and helpful. Course is in great shape. Still more at a good pace even with the back up. Hidden gem!
Fun p;ace for a good price!
I've played Zellwood every year for 10 years. The course today was quite good - tee boxes were much improved, fairways were good, greens were firm but good, bunkers aren't a strong suit but were somewhat groomed. This course has many elevations which is not the norm in Florida. The restaurant is good and prices for food and drink are great! All staff were very friendly and helpful. One of the better $50 ish coutrses around.
Confused.
Booked a 9:13 tee time through Golf Now and arrived by 8:45 and checked in with the starter. He looked at me and simply said "I don't have a place to put you". He explained that a group of organized regulars play that day and he lets their organizer make pairings and assign tee times. After driving 40 minutes to get there, needless to say, I was a bit miffed. The organizer did get me in with a group that was a player short, but well after my original tee time. The group of guys I played with were pleasant, but the round was 4.5+ hours. Course was ok. Almost no fringe around the greens. I witnessed and experienced approach shots that missed the green by 3 feet and ended up 30 to 40 yards from the green. A couple of greens are almost impossible if you get above the hole.. I had a 6 foot down hill birdie putt that I barely touched and it raced 16 feet past the hole.
Nice Challenge
Even though I played poorly, I really enjoyed the layout of the course. The fairways were in excellent condition and the greens were in decent shape. Most greens were protected by bunkers which were pretty well maintained.
Nice course, challenging
Nice challenging course for a mid handicapper. Lots of water and sloped fairways so you gotta place your tee shot just right! Only lost one ball 🤣
