Zellwood Station & Country Club
About
A 238-yard par 3, a 259-yard par 4, a treacherous hole called the "Train Wreck" and a five-hole stretch around a cavernous dry lake dubbed "Crater Junction" all help make the semi-private Zellwood Station Golf Club unique. Featuring hilly terrain not often seen at Florida golf courses, the George Maddox design, which opened in 1974, is a challenge. Located about 30 minutes from Orlando, Zellwood Station G.C. is known to be in good shape, especially the greens.

Course Crowding
I've played this course on 3 different occasions and on this latest visit I had an unusual experience.
First we were a 3some and teed off behind two women's groups. They were a little slow starting out but picked it up so that we finished the front 9 in a little over 2 hours. When we got to 10 the ladies were done but the course put out a 3some in front of us and as we were standing on the 10 tee box another 2some showed up and said the pro shop told them they were to tee off in front of us. Now this isn't something to0 unusual except that my past experience with this type thing was that the golfers making the turn had precedence of teeing off over guys just getting to the course. Of course there was no starter around to talk to about this and the 2some was insistent that they keep up with their friends in the 3some that just went out when we arrived at the turn. To avoid any further confrontation we let them tee off and the preceded to play a two and half hour back nine. Enough said.
Not something to be desired
We first arrived to our teatime to find that Somebody booked an extra 14 people in front of us, pace of play was very slow. Fairways were OK. Tea boxes were terrible. Greens were Good, No grass in the rough. This is the second time something like this has happened to us as far as overbooking ,will not be back
Fun track for the money
Zellwood has nice fairways, greens, and tee boxes. Bunkers are just okay. We always play this track. Great value.
It was a rainy day, but we went up to play golf, only to find out the golf course was closed. They didn’t inform us that it would be closed, so we made a wasted trip and had to return home. Very disappointed.
This course has great layout.
First time play the course and for sure will not be the last time. We love the design n layout of the course. We will be back on a warmer day.
Pace of play was slow and course conditions were below par.
This is a fun track if you don't mind sporty conditions in the fairway and tee boxes. Good value and friendly staff
Greens, Greens, Greens
First timer. Low handicapper. Starter was friendly and top notch, he knows his business.
Pro shop staff was great! Lunch was excellent as was my server!
Course was as expected, there were areas that were grass challenged but it wasn’t horrible. The greens were fantastic! Wonderful putting surfaces, and they held. I don’t mind minor issues with the course but if the greens are bad, it’s never a fun day. Tip of the hat to the superintendent for maintaining excellent putting surfaces.
Zellwood Station Golf
I have been to Zellwood at least 100 times over the years! It is always in generally good shape because it is in a 55 and older community and everybody likes to golf there. Some of the greens are treacherous depending on pin placement and please remember to avoid the trench!
The carts are relatively new and the Whistlestop Restaurant has very good drink specials and food options when it is open!
On occasion, as with most golf courses, the pace of play is a little slower than you would like, but generally is moving fairly quickly enjoy!
Good course
Really enjoy playing this course, but why let out groups of 5? It held up everyone behind, plus it doesn’t help when at least 2 of the four ball in front is hitting two balls off the tee. Not good golf etiquette.
Love the course
It was just too crowded which only further says its a good course. I like the hills for Florida and the greens were in great shape.
Zellwood is Fun Challenging Course
First off, the golf clubhouse is kinda tough to find, so pay attention to signage (I guess since I've been there I knew my way around & ended up making wrong turns in the Zellwood community).. The course is in nice shape, and the layout is challenging, especially with a few "blind shots". You will get some side-hill lies, and some greens are table-top in size. Tee boxes need levelling, and some greens thin texture & spotty; for the most part, receptive to good shots (thus, needing to repair ball marks). The starter was busy with groups of residents, but he fit me in with another 2some of young guys. The pace-of-play was good, around the 4hr mark, but we didn't spend much time looking for golf balls. I don't hit it far enough to lose, but you really have to spray shots to cost you balls. The layout has nice elevation changes, so bring your RangeFinder, and play extra club into the uphill holes like #5. Thanx to GN for the Hot Deals discount ......I will be back to redeem myself on hole #9 (only DbleBogie).
Fairways and greens
Zellwood is a good course with many elevation changes. It's built around a well kept manufactured housing community. The undulating greens and fairways have been overseeded and are shaved down nice. The rest of the course is, and always has been, pretty rough, bumpy and turf sparse. Tough (for me) to get up and down.
If you plan on lunch, call ahead. I think the restaurant is only partially open. Snacks, merchandise, range balls, and beers are very reasonable. They don't gouge you here.
