Wyncote Golf Club
About
Wyncote Golf Club in Oxford is one of the most challenging courses in the area. The heathlands layout feels like a links course with wind being an important factor and thick fescue coming into play. The golf course starts with an especially tough front nine but there are more scoring opportunities on the back. Mounded bunkers and moguls define the movement of the fairways and though there aren't many trees, if you don't keep your shots straight you might find yourself out-of-bounds or lost in the high, wiry grass. Sidehill lies await you as well as a few blind shots. Wyncote's greens have little undulation but the lightning fast putting surfaces are a challenge for players of all skill levels. With a few "grip it and rip it" holes mixed in, Wyncote Golf Club is a tough but fair test.

The Rough Is Tough
This course was in perfect shape tee box to green. The greens were smooth, fast and true but take my advice they don’t break as much as they look. The maintenance crew was out making sure everything was ready for play cutting, rolling, trimming, even raking the bunkers. They were all very friendly and respectful while you took your shot or putt. You’ll want to play with someone who can keep an eye on your ball if your off the fairway the rough is tough but fair. Also try to avoid going long, there is nothing good over the back of the greens. I have family in Lancaster which is about 45 mins away, but I will make this course a stop every time I’m there.
Great Condition
It had been a few years since I last played Wnncote. I will certainly be playing it again soon! The course is a very interesting and challenging layout. But what really impressed me was the course condition, which was fantastic. The greens were the best I have played all Spring, including high end private course Hartefeld ( which were very thin and bare in many spots). I definitely recommend playing Wyncote.
Love this course - worth the drive!
Wyncote remains pristine - challenging course that is always in great shape. Despite the rain, the greens are running fast and true. Lovely setting, friendly staff and great course. The restaurant is an unexpected bonus with lots of farm to table specialties. Try the mushroom soup and the flatbreads.
Tough course
Wyncote is a beast in the wind. Add the wet conditions and you have one tough golf course.
First time here
The course was in fantastic conditions. It defiantly took some adjusting. The greens played true and fast. This was the first time I played extremely well kept greens, and thank goodness for all the rain. Otherwise, they would have been crazy fast for me.
Course keeps you honest, tall grass off the rough punished you for being inaccurate. Not in a bad way either. Will be coming back.
Tough course
This is a tough course if you can't hit it straight and stay away from the tall grass. Rough was a little high. Some shots you have to position for the next shot. Greens were good and some quick. Tough and challenging course for me.
Wyncote
Wyncote was a treat, mild wind, perfect spring weather.
This is a very challenging course, for most. The Wind Brings the Rough into play and scoring becomes very very difficult. The greens are no picnic but a treat for the better player
Wind!
The course has some tight fairways and when you throw wind into the mix, it's tough to score here. This is the only course where I've seen the burnt (literally) rough. The greens had a good pace and the pace of play was excellent. There should be a tee box in the 6300 range. You are either playing 6000 or 6700, and for handicaps between 7-14, they may want the in between.
Triscadiaphobia
First really nice day this year and everyone was out. I arrived a little late and ask to join Drew and Chuck. They didn’t hesitate and agreed. Although the course was busy we played in about 3:45.
This is a great layout. The sand traps were well maintained which is rather rare this time of year and with most of the courses I book through golf now. Greens had been recently aerated.
Highly recommend especially now before the waste areas grow in. There most be a thousand lost balls in them.
Awesome Course
This place was a lot of fun to play. Hardly anyone there this time of year and I played 18 in 2.5 hours. The course was links-style and windy, but this time of year the fescue was all gone. I'm sure it will play much harder when the fescue is fully grown. Greens were also recently aerated, but you can't expect pristine greens this time of year in Pennsylvania. I will definitely be back.
DEC 19 golfing inPA
Greens recently plugged and were heavily sanded but hey, what do you want for Decmber golf in PA?
Windy
Great course, great condition with smooth fast greens. Always windy and a good challenge.
Love this course.
Everything about this place is terrific. Immaculatey manicured fairways and greens.
FANTASTIC
THIRD TIME PLAYING. ITS A REALLY GREAT COURSE AND A MUST FOR ANYONE WHO HASNT PLAYED THERE.
Not Enough Game
This is a beautiful course. I played the shortest tees and that didn’t help my score. I lost at least 8 balls (there’s 16 strokes ). If you can’t keep it in the fairway you end up with a lost ball. That said it is a beautiful place to be on a bonus Oct. day.
FANTASTIC
Immaculate in every aspect. By far the most manicured fairways and greens around. Absoloutley loved this course and everything it had to offer. For the average golfer dont use pro v1, your going to lose them ALL. Get some nice top flites instead.
The Perfect Round of Golf
This is one terrific golf course. The conditions were as good as they get. Great Tee Boxes, Fairways were plush and the greens were perfect. It was mild winds with sun and temperatures in the low 80's. This course is a beast when the wind blows as it is wide open. I highly recommend it to any serious golfer looking for a different layout in the northeast.
Fun and Interesting
I played Wyncote on a whim as I was supposed to play another round but my partner cancelled. First of all this place is set on an incredible piece of rolling land. The design is hugely benefitted by natural terrain. Wyncote seems links-ish as first glance with the tilted fairways, fescue, and width (more on that later) but in reality its just cleverly masked target golf. Fairways widen and narrow based on landing area, pinching in where most would want to land with bunkers or fescue. Again it looks like a links course but clearly plays like the modern track it is. My favorite aspects of Wyncote are some of the neat things they do thematically. For example the first and tenth hole, both par 5s, mirror each other in overall length and have a shared green for your uphill approach shots. The 9th and 18th holes are also par 5s of similar length and are sort of cousin holes both slight doglegs right. Another plus for Wyncote is the variety of shots the course demands. In my opinion its a real strategic course that doesn't allow the bomb and gouge player to flourish unless they are an outstanding driver of the ball. Bunkering, fairway shape/slope, and green complexes are all meaningfully done to both challenge and reward a player who understands the best possible way to play the hole. The par 4 13th is a great example. You could take a driver and smash it down a relatively wide fairway despite trouble on both sides. What the player doesn't see from the tee is the extreme canting of the fairway in the landing area for a driver and the run off into some well hidden bunkering. My favorite hole on the course was the downhill par 3 14th (honestly 11-15 are all awesome holes) if not for anything other than the view, you can see a good chunk of the property from the tee box. There are a few issues I had with Wyncote and though they aren't huge they should be noted. The biggest knock I have is the use of fescue. Fescue in links golf is their to make things more difficult but never really to take away from play ability. At Wyncote it is clearly penal and very much a hazard, you will not find a ball if you end up in the tall stuff. Again I know this is more for look but this fescue is simply unplayable. My other big gripe revolves around the greens. On the day I played the greens were rock hard and not receptive. Wyncote's website even bragged about not aerating at this point in the year when most other places had punched. With where the flags were, the green speed and grain the fact that 7 irons were literally bouncing and running 5 yards (I nearly lost a ball that I hit on the green and had one bounce into a back bunker after hitting near hole high) in some cases made things a lot tougher than they needed to be. I would assume this isn't something that happens all the time but this place needs to get the greens punched and soon. Overall though I loved my round at Wyncote and I can't wait to return with a little more knowledge of the course.
Simply the Best Public Course Around
I have played most of the public courses within the Delaware Valley Area. With that being said, there are some courses that come Close to Wyncote but in my book Wyncote is my favorite course by far.. I have never found anything wrong with the course. This course is always in perfect shape and has a great staff. I just wished I lived closer because I would play here all the time. I would compare Wyncote to most of the public courses in the area. I just feel bad for any golfer who has not had the chance to experience this golf course. It requires you to be on your game and to use all of the clubs in your bag. Especially if you play from the tips. If you haven't played here or it's been to long make it your next tee time. Trust me this course is the best public course around.
