Wyncote Golf Club
About
Wyncote Golf Club in Oxford is one of the most challenging courses in the area. The heathlands layout feels like a links course with wind being an important factor and thick fescue coming into play. The golf course starts with an especially tough front nine but there are more scoring opportunities on the back. Mounded bunkers and moguls define the movement of the fairways and though there aren't many trees, if you don't keep your shots straight you might find yourself out-of-bounds or lost in the high, wiry grass. Sidehill lies await you as well as a few blind shots. Wyncote's greens have little undulation but the lightning fast putting surfaces are a challenge for players of all skill levels. With a few "grip it and rip it" holes mixed in, Wyncote Golf Club is a tough but fair test.

Plugged and sanded greens
Picked up a great deal to play this course in February wth golf now. I wish I had known the greens were going to be sandy before booking. Other than the greens, the rest of this course was in outstanding condition for the time of year. This is an awesome course but it is also very challenging!
Hit right on 7..trust me!
Super windy day....and was told it would be a little difficult if it was windy. Had beautiful shots drift a stray. Difference between landing on the green and putting for birdie, or going up and down. Will love to play on a calmer day. If you haven't played before...hit your tee shot on 7 to the right, you hear me, to the right. All your instincts say left, and the little hole map tricks you. Hit a tee fade to the right on 7, and enjoy a great round at a beautiful place.
Best of Chester county pa hands down
Wanna play the best of Chester county get your fouresome and your clubs and head on down to see for yourself
this course is in great shape
The course was in great shape. We were a 2-some and played in a little over 4 hours. My only problem was the amenities. The restaurant doesn't open until 11am. if you want to get a quick sandwich at the turn they have 3 possibilities...ham and cheese, turkey and cheese and a hotdog. For a course such as this this is really poor. So if you're going to play Wyncote (which I would recommend) make sure you bring your own snacks and sandwiches. BY the way, the crackers were $2.00 per package.
Straight hitter
Course in great condition which demands precise shots. If you hit off line shots, you won't find your ball. Straight shooters course!
Two Words: Course Condition
Perfect Fall day, Felt sorry for Amish farmers harvesting via horse plow next to our tee box while we were enjoying golf, but great scene. Course condition 5 star- greens fairways, bunkers, tee boxes all excellent. Interesting hole layout only a couple of similar holes, long par 3's , easy 5's &mix of 400yd -4's and a few easy 340-380. Played from white tee box, good for me there is absolutely no trees on course but some carries over waste areas which are not playable out of. Excellent Day!
Everything you have herd about, only better
Wyncote is the #5 public course in PA for a reason. It is ALWAYS exceptional. ALWAYS in great shape, ALWAYS enjoyable. It's worth the time and money to play. Especially when you can catch a hot deal!! Beautiful course, beautiful area, beautiful surroundings. I like to play different courses every week but never have a problem playing wyncote. I play the blues or whites most of the time. One day ill go out and play from the tips. It does stretch out to over 7100 yards. I wouldn't even care if I shoot 110. It's that enjoyable of a track. Will DEFINITLY play again and i highly recommend anyone who hasn't played it to come to Oxford, PA. And try wyncote. You will not be disappointed. I promise.
Bring Your A Game and Alot of Balls
Challenging yet fair. Difficult yet rewarding. Hitting into the fesqu was like hitting into a water hazard. Blue tees were all this 13 handicapper could handle. Played good and shot 87. Food was excellent on the patio with an excellent view. great course layout!
Wyncote
Great golf course and fanstasic conditions. It rained for 3 days before we played and the course drained extremely well. Still soggy in spots but nothing that prevented the round from being enjoyable. Golf staff in the shop was nice but would have appreciated a break on the junior players that were in my group. Nevertheless, the horse and buggies crusing down the road brought a rural charm to a phenomenal golf facility. Too bad it isn't a bit closer!
Extremely poor service.
Great course. Always in peak conditions. Difficult if you are not hitting it straight. This course would get a 5 star rating if it was not for their staff.
Getting to the course, if you are not aware, is all self serve. No one to take your bag and no one to set you up on a cart and no one to let you know where to go. Once you figured it out, you then need to go to the pro shop and deal with the Head Pro, Tim Brown. Never a hello, welcome to the course, thanks for coming to spend your money. Very rude for a head pro at a public course. Once you check in, you go to the first tee and sometimes greeted by the starter if he is not on the putting green. Once you get to the tee box, when it is time to tee off, you get whistled at to start play. The starter is there and can not go to the tee to let you know, he would rather whistled.. Very unprofessional. Ok, now you are the course and enjoying a nice comfortable round of golf and then the pace stops. I called the shop and a ranger came out, We let him know where the trouble is and goes right pass the group that is holding everyone up. He stops by to tells us that he talked to everyone. He didn't even stop to talk to the trouble group. I played enough to get a free round, but I won't be back.
Great condition, great value, well worth the extra drive
After playing several mediocre Philadelphia area publics, I needed to trade up and Wyncote really fit the bill. Was a solid hour from Havertown even at 7 am on Sunday but was well worth it. I was told the wind was tough but I was still shocked at how hard it blew. Keeps it cool though. Bring extra balls. They're gone in the tall grass and tough to find even in the rough. Several blind shots made the course even more difficult along with some fairly narrow fairways My one annoyance was what I believe was the 7th. Blind tee shot without seeing one of the stone maps. Everyone played it to the left only to find out it was a dog leg right. Frustrating wasting 3 of 4 good drives. Great experience overall though.
Great links style course
The course was in great shape considering the dry weather we've had for a month. The greens were a little inconsistent in speed but in nice condition. The only gripe I have is, we had a tee time and when we got there we were told to just go if we're ready. Unfortunately we had to wait 15 minutes to tee off of 1 and it seemed like we waited 5-10 minutes for each shot after that. The pace was very slow. 2 groups ahead of us were so slow after 7 holes we saw a hole in front of them open. It was pretty busy and not once did we see a ranger or a cart girl and this was a holiday weekend!
Tough test
Excellent course, sort of in the middle of nowhere outside Philadelphia. Few trees and a prevailing breeze make it a test of your flight control. If you're a little bit off, prepare to give up strokes everywhere. Good condition, great greens. I'd like to play it again now that I know a little bit about how to play it. I think it would take a lot of rounds for someone like me to get the hang of this course. I hope I get the chance sometime.
This course is BEAUTIFUL
Second time playing this course, first time this year. Every bit what I remembered. I play a lot of courses during the year, and very few stick in my memory. This is one. Tee boxes level and looked like greens. Beautiful fairways in green like condition. Fast greens like carpet with subtle breaks. Course requires some good course management decisions. Only a few short carries so can be high handicap friendly but you better stay on generous fairways or first cut. If you can't control driver or long woods/irons better bring lots of balls. Really nice practice/warmup facilities. This is one of the most beautiful and well maintained links style courses in the Mid-Atlantic and a must play.
Wyncote
The course was great! You have to be on your game or bring extra balls! Not a lot of trees, but plenty of grass to lose balls in.
We visited on a Tuesday and minimal staff was present. Be prepared to ask questions and take charge of your experience.
Restaurant staff was nice.
We went to play golf and the course was great!
Perfect golf course
My third time playing Wyncote. Each year, we visit family in the area and this course is on our must play list. The tees are in perfect condition and flat everywhere. The fairways looked like a perfect green carpet and gave some really nice roll out on the drives. The rough was tough in spots and don't stray too far off the fairways because on the high fescue grass. The greens rolled true and smooth at a better than average quickness. Each hole has it's own character. The course is bunkered very nicely, as a found a few that day but the sand was nice to hit out of and groomed. There is plenty options off the tee as long as you play the correct tees. The course would be a bear having to bomb drivers all day and hitting longer clubs into greens than how the hole was meant to be played, if that makes sense. There is a nice driving range with grass tees and a large green for putting and chipping. This course will remain on my list to play each year we travel to visit family.
Georgian in PA
What a great track! Playing so many courses in the south east for so long it was nice to have an opportunity to putt and hit balls off of bentgrass. I was so pumped up that the 7148 from the back tees didn't seem like much !
beware the waste
This is a big open-air course up near Have de Grace in the PA farmlands along Rte1. Most of the course is big-sky with good verticality, wide fairways some rough and a lot of waste, a lot of OB off behind the waste. Also it has a lot of wind for a golf-course. The big thing on this course is just to keep the ball out of the waste for 18 holes...try to do that while you're out playing under the blazing sun with the wind and road-noise and greenskeepers running around. Otherwise it's a decent course, a good challenge with some nice holes, not a lot of houses on the course. Certainly earns its 141 rating.
