Wet and Under repair
Overall coarse is fun to play. Unfortunately there is a lot of wet conditions. Few tee boxes were wet. Most sand traps holding water and hard as packed dirt.
Several greens are dead or under repair. I would skip this coarse until new ownership gets repairs done.
Eagle's Pointe
The pace of play was excellent, seems like the course wasn't very booked on the day we played. I only gave this course an "Average" rating because the fairways on the front nine were mowed unevenly. I don't know if this is normal or they were doing some sort of maintenance, it just seemed very odd the way they were mowed and there was no mention of it when we checked in for our round. Most of the tee boxes need maintenance, due to weed growth and bare spots. The staff is very accommodating and cordial. We tried to get something to munch on at the turn (11 AM) and nothing hot was available yet (disappointed). There are many other courses in the area, I would look elsewhere before I return to this one.
Revive
Courtesan wet but ok. A lot of good grass best in 10 years. Greens still recovering from aeration but ok. Some parts of some greens trying to recover. Sand traps were wet from heavy rain day before. The traps still need some work.
Course needs a little TLC
Greens a little tough, need to cut the fairways and move the tee boxes around! Not much grass on the tee boxes
Decent Course, Improvements Needed
I've had the chance to play Eagle's Pointe a few times before when down in SC. The staff is nice and pace of play was good. I found the course conditions though to be sub par. The greens are in rough shape, with what looks like multiple strains of grass growing and lots of bare patches. The cart paths need to be smoothed out significantly. And the tee boxes are the length of the first cut of rough. The course has good bones and could be much better with the right time and money invested into it. For now, I'm not sure I'd return until I see some improvement.
Horrible Conditions
I read about this course before booking. Read that it was under new ownership and that it was being improved. I’ve never played a course that was in such bad condition. The greens were horrible, it was like putting on shag carpet. There were weeds taller than my golf ball on the greens. The t boxes were also horrible with over grown grass. The bunkers and what seemed to be old/former bunkers were full of weeds and tree roots. Just a shame that it was that bad. Could be an absolute beautiful course to play. Not one beverage cart to be seen. Cart path was crumbled by tree roots and would almost knock your teeth loose. Very disappointed as the Hilton Head area is a good destination.
Lay out was nice. Greens were pretty fuzzy. May be due to the heat while we were there.
Worst Experience EVER
I would tell the Greens Keeper to take two weeks off and then QUIT. This was the worst manicured course I have ever played and I have played on some cow pastures. The greens were not cut, nor rolled. It was like putting on the fairway. They haven't been cut in so long that they were sprouting leaves. The fairways were cut to the size of the first cut of rough, so your drives got no roll. I would rather of paid some homeless guy to kick me in the nuts and call it even instead of playing this course again. On top of it all, the Ranger told us we were behind when the group in front of us was a twosome and the group behind us was two holes behind. STAY FAR AWAY!!!
Great views, very challenging
Played the course in the morning. Views are great, but course plays extremely challenging. Rough is very deep and when we played, course overall was extremely soggy (not sure if due to rain or just natural damp nature of the south in the morning). These conditions ate up the ball and made it extremely difficult to recover from an mis-hit. They had also somewhat recently aerated the greens, so they were very challenging as well.
Decent course overall; we got a “hot deal” at $63/person and I’d say course overall is no better condition-wise than a $50/person course.
We were playing slow and a youth tournament was behind us so we stopped at the 9th hole and got a rain check for the other 9 holes great day just got cut short
