The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."

The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.

Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

Awesome course at a fair price

With this course being located in Bluffton and not on Hilton Head Island the price was significantly less than those on the island which were $200 or more.

The course was just as nice or better than a lot of the more expensive ones and in great shape for early April. It reminded me of some of the nicer ones in upstate, finger lakes region of New York. The layout was challenging and the greens were very playable. Staff was more than accommodating and made you feel welcome from the start. The food in the restaurant was delicious too.

I will definitely be back again.

Beautiful Natural Setting

The course is easy to get to from the Bluffton Parkway. The layout weaves its way through woods, water & marshland. OSL is in good shape & fun to play. Friendly & professional staff. Typically good pace of play.

Very Nice Course

Old South is a really nice course with a couple of tricky holes (16 & 7). These two holes are very tough because they are target golf and you have to hit to landing areas. Pace of play was affected by these two holes due to difficulty. Staff was great also.

Was good playing it once

Course was in good shape, but still suffered from the typical late winter conditions. Greens were slow. Most of the course played like a traditional coarse (grip it and rip it) but there were ~3 holes that were gimmicky (funky) which I didn’t care for. No issues with pace of play.

Beautiful but needs work.

Course is in a beautiful setting, great views everywhere. However, course conditions could use some work. Bare spots on many greens, fairways were ok, but many had dead areas. Tee boxes ok. Would love to come back next year & see if any improvements were made.

Nice layout, well conditioned, great pace of play

Course was in good condition, a couple of greens had some bare spots, not surprising with wet winter/early spring. Green speed was slower than expected, also not surprising with weather warming and grass growing. We were third group out, played in 3.5 hours, for us great pace of play.

Would definitely recommend course and would play here next time in Hilton Head.
