The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."

The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.

Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

We appreciate the 5 star review. We do not permit carts in the parking lot as it creates liability issues. The staff puts your clubs on the bag drop where you can pick them up or they will carry clubs to your car.

Pretty decent shape. There were a couple of tricked up holes where you were forced to lay up and then carry the marsh. I’ll know for the next time I play.

Strange holes

Pace of play was pretty poor. Marshall did try to move the group in front along. 16th hole spoils course …. Complete gimp. Bizarrely no water coolers on course

Water coolers were removed due to Covid and since there is no way to insure sanitation between groups, they will not be replaced. FREE water and ice are available in the clubhouse and the beverage cart has cold water for $1.00/bottle. Most people appreciate a few challenging holes and the view but perhaps your score wasn't what you hoped.

Nice course

Great course and layout , some challenging holes. Only issue is that some of the greens were a little ruff..

Otherwise it's a great course and great thing for the dollar in Hilton Head area .

Must Play

Best course west of Hilton Head Island. Course is in good shape, greens are nice and staff is A+. Fair off the tee with a few holes that require precision tee shots. GPS on golf carts to help with any forced carry's. Old South is easily the best course/value this side of the island. Must play!

Another Great Day at Old South Golf Links

Staff is always great. Just a few tee boxes are a bit tired along with a few greens which have been addressed. Overall the course is in very good condition. Love playing this course. Highly recommended and a must play when visiting the area.

The course needs some work

For the money, this course should be in much better shape. Several tees with no grass but lots of sand. Greens with grass not completely covering the surface. I expected much better.

The round was also very slow, pushing 5 hours. Two rangers on the course did nothing to get people moving along at a reasonable pace.

Favorite round of the golf trip

We played 4 courses on a recent HH golf trip: Golden Bear, Oyster Reef, Eagles Point, and this one was everyone’s favorite. Very scenic, several really unique holes, and challenging but not ridiculously so. This will be the one we return to down the road.

We regret you were disappointed. Greens transition from winter grass to summer bermuda at this time every year. Tee boxes are one the list for maintenance but can't be done will there is so much demand for golf but will be addressed during the off season.
