The 18-hole Old South Golf Links in Bluffton, S.C. is a public course that opened in 1991. Designed by Clyde Johnston, Old South Golf Links measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees and has a slope rating of 129 and a 72.4 USGA rating. The course features four sets of tees for different skill levels.

Johnston designed Old South Golf Links in keeping with the beautiful Lowcountry's natural landscape. "Old South Golf Links was designed not only to provide an enjoyable yet challenging golf game, but also to preserve the natural beauty of the land," he said. "I felt that this was an opportunity to allow the golfer to experience up close the uniqueness of the site, its natural amenities and spectacular views."

The variety of the setting from oak forest to open pasture to tidal salt marsh, provided an opportunity to vary the design elements and strategy of play.

Old South Golf Links is open to the public seven days a week. There is a clubhouse, restaurant and full-line pro shop on site.

Hilton Head Golf Trip Staple

We have been to Hilton head 4 - 5 and have played most of the golf courses. Old South Remains a staple Because it is a fun layout, fair, and usually delivers an excellent experience. The only thing that I would point out is that there were a Few greens that had areas of damage that have not healed. However, that really did not interfere with enjoying the course and the round that we played. I booked a hot deal, and was pleased with our golfing experience

Fun course, well designed, fair price

Played Old South Golf Links for the first time this week on a trip to Hilton Head. A challenging and playable golf course that is in good condition. Pro shop staff was friendly and accommodating. This would be a course I would recommend to players of all skill levels. Greens, fairways and tee boxes were all well maintained. In an area where many of the courses are expensive, this course is priced fairly and was a lot of fun to play. I'll add this course to my list of places to play on future visits.

Fun layout, needs work

The course layout is one of my favorites in hhi. However the tee box and green conditions are in rough shape for early season.

Our busiest season is mid-March through May so the tees have had an extraordinary amount of use. Greens are transitioning from winter rye grass to summer bernumda so all will be well in a few weeks. We hope you get in another round at Old South.

Wanted to play “off the island “ courses this trip and this was my first stop. Staff was great from the moment I arrived. Speed of play was under 4 hours and a lot of the greens had bare spots on them and were on the slow side. I shall return! Thanks

Had a great time!

Right away had someone take my bag from the car and load it on the cart. All staff were so friendly! Most fairways greens and tee boxes were in great condition. Some of the tee boxes form the white tees were pretty sandy (although the other 4 were lush, which makes me think the whites are used most). Only 1-2 greens looked partly rough but otherwise were in great condition.

Views were gorgeous and pace of play was great. Got my round in 4 hours and that was including stopping for food and drinks at the turn. Glad this was my first course experience near the island and definitely want to come back!

Oh, and to top it off the staff cleaned your clubs as you left! These guys are doing it right!
