Nice Municipal Course
Silverbell is a nice course for a municipal course. Nice selection of tee options and course was in nice shape. Greens were excellent, nice roll and speed. Course layout offers variety and some interesting shot selections. Will very likely play again. Only complaints are the rock hard bunkers and that sometimes it was confusing finding the way to next hole. Won't be a problem next time but confusing for first time players.
What a change
I had played here befor but the course was not in very good condition. I was pleasently suprized this time.
The Greens were the best I have played on in a long time here in the Tucson area. Good Job Staff.
the course conditions are horrible.
dirt roughs. Dirt sand traps with huge rocks throughout. hard pan greens, all make this place one horrible experience. Count on course conditions to add 4-5 strokes to your handicap...........awful!
Pretty Course.
Very Pretty course, fairways & greens in very nice shape. The only thing we were disappointed in was lack of directions on the course. Very few signs showing next tee box and we got lost several times. Also, bunkers were like cement.
Lumpy Greens
This is a public course, but my expectations were much higher. The greens were in poor condition grass was patchy. The fairways and green were the best on hole 18. The course restrooms are very dirty and looked as if they are not ever cleaned -- this is an issue since it is coed and I was afraid to touch anything.....
SURPRISED!!
Heard this course was "nothing to write home about", a scruffy well trodden muni. Well to my surprise and after an hour frost delay we set out, paired with another local twosome for a most pleasurable round of unrushed golf. The course was in very good condition with the greens surprisingly quick even early in the day. A perfect walking layout with green to tee distance quite close. Plenty of sand to challenge your shot placement and water on several holes that definitely come into play. A refreshing change from the more common target desert courses. There was an abundance of bare rocky terrain between greens and tees that would have been nice to see planted with some native desert plants to let you know you are in southern Arizona. Keep up the good work as it seems the new management company is doing. I will surely return to Silverbell GC !!
SLOW
Front 9 was great it took 1.5hrs. Did not even try to start the back 9 due to a large ladies group that was started on the back 9 when we were probably on the 6th or 7th hole. The back 9 would of taken probably 2.5 hours.
quick easy round of golf
fun course, nothing special, greens are nice but looks like they mow front and back 9 on alternate days. Tees, fairways and surrounds were in nice shape. Come on people fix your ball marks and divets.
Going backward
This place was in great shape a month ago. What happened? Bare spots everywhere, no rangers, and my biggest complaint is that the greens obviously hadn't been mown for several days. Very bumpy and slow.
Slow Play
The course was fine, the greens were fine, the weather was good but the round took 5 hours. When rounds take this long there is a problem at the front desk and this needs to change.
Silverbell in good shape
Staff outstanding. Very helpful. Fareways and greens in very good shape. Cart paths and sand traps need work. Need more ball washers. Senior tees need to be moved to shorten the course. Overall good experience.
Silberbell Review
I have to say that your greens are in horrible condition. The only green that did ot have brown interspersed was the 18th and I needed to be cut. The bunkers had no topsoil and as hard as a brick. The club would bounce rather than scoop the sand. Thank God I only was in one. Unforturately my partner was I more than that and had the same experience. Poor maintenance. The 19th hole was not even open at the time we teed off at Noon.
I wontbe back, and I have played the many times over the years.
Great Condition
I was thoroughly impressed with the condition of the course. The greens were the best I think I have ever seen them, and they were fast. Usually with the city courses the greens are slow and beat up. I tip my hat to the new management company that has taken over the course, they have worked wonders. My only complaint was the bunkers which are still in need of sand. Other than that I thought the course was in great shape.
Silverbell Nov 2014
Course conditions were good, greens excellent but sand traps a little sparse in places. Pace of play was excellent. Staff very friendly and helpful.
bunkers
The course is in excellent condition except for the bunkers which are in bad condition.
Great condition for a muni
Hve been playing Silver belle for the last 4 years it keeps improving every Year!
Greatly improved
Much improved since July, 2014. Fairways are nice; greens are smooth and roll true. Pro shop and other facilities have been reconfigured. Staff was professional and very helpful. I was impressed with this municipal course and will return.
Take a look
Walked it in just under three hours starting in the mid afternoon, playing through a walking foursome on the front and only waiting once, on the 18th tee. The course is long in places - four of the pars fours are 420 yards or longer from the whites - but in great shape for this time of year. The sand trap on 18 was more of a lake and couple of other bunkers were very damp. The greens were nice but the number of ball marks in need of repair was a sad comment on the folks that play this, and every other course in the Tucson area. The is a great deal of distance from green to tee especially from 16 to 17. The number of drinking fountains isn't high enough for the summer but fine otherwise. There traveling snack carts are seemingly everywhere but not pushy. Plus, playing in the afternoon and walking it cost about half what it does to play many other area courses that are not nearly as nice.
Winter Golf
OBGolf has done a fine job managing turf transition in their first year with city courses. Silverbell on 10/30 was our third course with new grass, and it offered excellent conditions. Of course Silverbell's wide-open charms are still in effect. Even so, sand traps were soggy and impossible. We hope that someday city courses will have better sand. Also, we wonder why more effort isn't put into bettering duck/bird habitat around extant water holes. More brush and cover is good for ducks. Add some cattails and interesting shrubs. It seems silly to have removed it all. Golf courses are useful nature preserves and need to be managed as such.
course has nice features
Was in very nice shape when you consider they will shut down for over seeding next week.
