Dos Osos Golf Club
About
Dos Osos Golf Club(formerly known as Eagle Crest Golf Club) is routed through the scenic San Pasqual Valley. Its secluded location and challenging layout have made Dos Osos one of San Diego's best-kept secrets. The beautiful layout incorporates cascading waterfalls and eight lakes along with colorful wildflowers and rolling green hills. The diverse golf course is a shot maker's layout that is player friendly enough to appeal to a wide range of skill levels. It measures to a manageable 6,417 yards, but it still offers plenty of challenges. In addition to the water hazards, pristine white sand bunkers add a stark contrast to the lush greens. The golf course is narrow, especially on the front nine, which is tighter and has more tree-lined fairways. The bank nine opens up much more. Dos Osos Golf Club rewards accuracy and thoughtful strategy but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper.

Good Owners could save this beautiful course.
Eagle Crest is a very fun and challenging golf course and used to be in great shape but sadly that was back in the 1990's. I play the course frequently but it's now it's apparent the owners could care less about the product they put out. The course has deteriorated even more so the past few months. I don't know if that has anything to do with Troon Golf taking over but more so because the owners are too cheap to buy or lease the proper equipment to maintain a golf course. I just played the course yesterday (7/12/21) and it appeared like they are doing no maintenance at all. They have weeds growing around most bunkers aka dirt traps. Two foot tall weeds growing in the middle of several fairways and greens that rolled about 5 or 6 on the stimpmeter. I haven't played on greens that slow for about 40-50 years. They are rarely changing hole placements now and they have no clue on where to place tee markers. Most of the tees are not level but they'll place the markers where you don't even have a level lie to tee the ball. The superintendent and his crew must know nothing about golf at all based on the way they set the course up. These owners should just sell the course to someone who actually knows something about golf and cares about putting out a good product. The owners and superintendent should be ashamed with the condition of the course but obviously they have no problem having it look like a cow pasture. If the greens were good I would still support the course even with all the weeds growing everywhere and some barren fairways but as it is now they'll have to pay me to play the course. I would rather go to Native Oaks up the road and pay 50% more to play a much better conditioned course. Troon took over Native Oaks (formerly Woods Valley GC) a few months ago so we'll see if the course condition suffers there as well. Eagle Crest could be so good. It's too bad the owners don't feel the same way.
PS. to the owners...don't bother replying with this weak response: "Thanks for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear we disappointed you. Your comments will be shared with the rest of the team." If you were actually sorry you would invest the money it takes to put out a good product!
Thank you for your review.
The course is bad
I do not recommend this course. I feel bad saying this but it’s the truth. the pictures don’t do it justice and it should be noted that the course is severely neglected. Maybe if they charged $5 I would play it again
Thank you for your review.
Won’t be returning anytime soon
Course conditions weren’t as bad as most of the reviews reflected. My main complaint was the amount of sprinklers and hoses that ran across multiple fairways. If you are going to be running sprinklers while golfers are on the course, the prices should reflect the inconvenience of navigating around them. While putting, the sprinkler changed directions and began to soak our bags and cart. The bunkers were extremely hard and had rocks in them. I also think the $15 cart fee plus $15 ride along fee for the same cart, on-top of a 50 dollar green fee while having to navigate through puddles and around sprinkler systems is a bit overpriced in comparison to other courses. Overall I don’t think the course was worth $75 a person.

Extremely Dry
Greens are nice, staff was friendly that was all that was good about it.
Thank you for your review.
Better the previous
We played Eagle Crest last month and they seem to have water both the fairways and greens more, but there is still a lot of crab grass, bunkers are very rocky, and the general rough is mostly dirt. Please water the overall course more it just needs it.
Thank you for your review.
Bald course
This course has barely any grass in the fairway and dry as a bone. You are playing in hard dirt surface with a few patches of green here and there It’s pretty unbelievable, even for a public course.

Worst course condition imaginable...
Horrible course conditions. Looks like someone forgot to hire anyone to maintain the course. $45 for this abomination is a scam. There were more bare patches of dirt and rocks than grass on the fairways. If you can even call them fairways... mostly weeds!! Definitely never coming back here and will not recommend to anyone.

Meh
Course is a decent length. Fairway conditions were very poor due to a water issue they were having. Very dry patchy fairways with divers, dirt, clumpy grass to the level it was hard to distinguish the rough from fairway. One hole is difficult to tell which green to aim for, although this is partly due to the fairway conditions.
Greens were decent and Staff were friendly and helpful though. Speed of play was good.
It would be a good course if they fix the watering problems.

Good test
Teed off at 1 on Friday afternoon & played in 5 hours with little wait time . Good test for average golfers and 7 to 9 mph wind made it more challenging. Like many courses after 15 months of pandemic reduced play & revenue they have had difficultly maintaining tee boxes which need leveling and new sod. Greens we on the slow side & some fairway areas need serious work. That said, we enjoyed our round and will be back. Customer service was excellent from Matt.

Much better courses to choose from
I’ve been to this course many times. I didn’t mind going in the past despite the poor conditions because it was generally not busy at all so you could speed through a round. It’s been several months since I have been back to the course and decided to give it a try today. What a mistake. The prices are reasonable and the greens are in decent conditions but the tee boxes and fairways are terrible and the bunkers are shameful. It was also crowded so the pace of play was very slow. I could probably deal with the conditions if the course was wide open but there’s no need to go here if it’s even remotely busy. Spend your money elsewhere. It’s almost as if they are going out of their way not to take care of the fairways.
Thank you for your review.
Tee boxes in bad condition. Greens average and slow. Cart paths terrible condition. Many fairways in bad condition. Good challenging layout. Not as good condition as when we last played there several years ago.

Enjoyed the Eagle
Just like other reviews, Eagle Crest is a great design in need of some extra cash. I wouldn’t say it needs TLC, it’s obvious from the great greens conditions that it’s getting care, it just needs more water on the fairways. Don’t know if their water is restricted or it’s budget but that’s all it really needs. If they could get the fairways more playable, this could be a gem!

Impressive Greens!
I’ve played this course a handful of times over the last 2 years and I have never seen the greens in this good of shape. Fairways are in good condition and a few of the tee boxes need a little attention. Got out early and played 18 in 3 and a half hours.

what THEY said is true
TROON GOLF - that is what the signs in the club house said but maybe they are new signs, 'cause looking at the course says otherwise. Not long and interesting looks from the blue tees, but the lack of grass on the fairways just make the whole trip meh: start not to care 'cause of the run out on the fairway plus the practice green is way faster the the rest. Doubt I'll go back without a real deal, PLUS - you will not find the place without GPS- there are no signs directing you to the entrance OR through the GATE!
