Steele Canyon Golf Club is a 27-hole layout designed by Gary Player that is hailed as one of southern California's best courses. The holes are divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The Canyon, Ranch, and Vineyard nines each offer a different set of challenges. The Canyon/Ranch Course starts in an expansive canyon, climbs across dramatic elevation changes, and then wraps around an operating ranch. Free-roaming cattle wander all along the back nine. Although there are no blind shots, golfers will be faced with uneven lies and elevated greens. Steele Canyon's signature hole is the Ranch's par-4 third hole. The tee is perched 175 feet above the fairway and plays into the prevailing winds that blow from left to right. It is one of San Diego County's most memorable holes.

Too expensive

It’s a nice course. But, it plays more like a $60-75 course. For $100+ it’s way too expensive. It could be worth $100+ if it was very well maintained. But, it’s not. Bunkers are hard, rough is very patchy, fairways are ok. Greens are nice though.

Nobody should ever come here

Unless you have 2 whole days to play 1 round, stay away. Pace of play is an abomination unto God. I’m currently 55 minutes into my round and waiting to tee off ON THE 3RD HOLE. And there’s still a group in front of me!!

Seriously. The layout is fine, the conditioning is shaggy, but it’s not worth the 6 hours required to play here.

Perfectly fine course

Everything was pretty good except the price/conditions. For a similar price point and better conditions, I'd rather go to one of the sycuan courses. Many of the long time players I ran into lamented the same as the prices are a bit unreasonable. 5 stars if conditions improve or prices come down.

Played Vineyard/Canyon previously and really liked it but Canyon/Ranch course was exceptional!

Great layout, challenging and picturesque, with several elevated tees and true, fast greens

Only negative ..the bunkers are not so well cared for.

Staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. Thoroughly recommend Steel Canyon

The course was in great shape, greens are a bit fast. Great course for ladies but I still found the course to be challenging, I'm still very new to golf. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, this being our first time at the course it was great to get some insight on how to play the holes.
