If you're sick of getting beat up and spit out by all the big-name, big-bite courses in the Palm Springs resort area paradise of La Quinta, Big Rock Golf & Pub at Big Rock Golf & Pub at Indian Springs could be the course for you.

This track provides a reprieve from the hacker battering. The design is pretty straight forward. Water only comes into play on two holes. The fairways are mostly flat.

Golfers can get into trouble in the desert areas bordering some holes, but as long as you're not too wild, the pain should be kept to a minimum. Big Rock Golf & Pub at Indian Springs is all about golf as a fun escape.

It's not a course that feels like it must make hackers prove something. The slope rating at this John Gurley Sr. design is 127 for men, 120 for women.

nice course. allows good scores.

Hard Rock of golf courses i guess. only have played here in the summer. so its not too busy. although a couple of local high school girls teams were here on this day.

this course has a nice layout. not too much of a penalty in the rough. you can still get good contact on the ball. there's water on the right on many holes. on 9 i go down 1's fairway since no one is around. otherwise pretty straightforward course.

the cart barn guys wait for you off of the 18th green. and when you go to the green. they go to your cart to clean your clubs. only place i've played in my life that has done this. so don't be disturbed when you see them walk to your cart. guys in the shop can learn what the "hold" button is on the phone.

Frustrating round

1. Spent a large portion of the round dodging the fairway watering system, at one stage unsuccessful (the cart and everything in it got soaked)

2. Bathrooms locked

3. drinking water fountains broken and not working (temp over 100)

Disappointed

I vacation with family every year in Palm Springs and always play a round at “ The Rock “ for the last 6 years . And I always looked forward to playing the course but this year it was not the same as what I experienced in past years . Now I understand it’s important certain times of the year a golf course requires annual maintenance like aerating the greens and punching the fairways . But I was surprised at the general condition of the course .

Especially the fairways . A lot of rough patches throughout which I never saw in past years . Maybe it’s due to the hot summer weather but the greens were very good and putts rolled true . But I will not give up on the course as I will give it another try on my next visit to Palm Springs . As always the staff is very friendly and the restaurant is very good to stop for something to eat after the round .

Big Rock Shock

Nice course but didn't find it particularly challenging. Course in good shape for the time for the year. Was very hot out there. Would have been good to have some bottled waters but was enough water to get through. Course layout was fun.Thought the last hole was a bit lame for an 18th hole. Highlight was the clubhouse bar which is OUTSTANDING. Some great music memorabilia in there (see pics)

Nice easy course

Good condition, some areas were heavily watered because of the heat, so had a few plugged balls. Pace of play was excellent.

Lots of street crossings

Look, I thought it was ok. The people were really nice but the layout wasn’t great, you are constantly crossing streets and sometimes major ones. I had to hit the crossing signal once. A few holes on one side of the street a few on the other.

It’s not my vibe, maybe for some, but I preferred other options.

Average but overpriced

Course was fine but the $75 for this place in the middle of summer is way overpriced. Greens were a little thin and it looked like the areas just off the fairways were recently punched. Lots of muddy spots too from over watering during the day. Had that muni, goat ranch vibe.

Played Trilogy down the street a couple days before for $50 and the course was in much better condition.

Fun golf course with opportunities to make birdies

I’ve played this course a lot and the conditions are always pretty good. The greens had a solid tine punch a few weeks ago but the speed is good and they are not bumpy they just wiggle offline a bit as the winter grass is finally choking out. The course has short par 5s except 18 and long par 3s except 14. The par 4s are relatively short and with a good tee shot you can hit wedges into the greens all day. There is OB on every hole but generously wide tee shots give you room to spray it a bit. The rough is not a concern and in the winter it is dormant so as long as you are not behind one of a few trees getting to the green is simple.
