PGA WEST Pete Dye Dunes Course

In order to play this course you must 1, be able to hit your drive long enough to have a short iron for your second shot, 0r 2, hit the same kind of shot Nicklaus hit, dye requires the near perfect shot, or you must be able to chip and putt like a demon, the course is in good enough shape, it just isn’t much fun to play.

Had read about Pete Dye courses, but had to try one myself. If you are not a 15 handicap or better, don’t bother with this course. If you were not perfect, letter size target on greens, you were off the green and in severe hollows or sand traps. The design is almost unplayable.

Plus the course didn’t advertise that the range is not open on Tuesdays and you go out with no warm up and try to play the first two holes of the Dunes course, which are the worst two holes on the course. The whole experience was ridiculous. They should limit golfers to only 15 or better handicaps, as anything higher you are just throwing your money away.

Course still recovering from overfeeding. Pace was ok, around 4 hours. Pretty tough layout with lots of false fronts.

Better view at back nine which have mountain and water . Front nine are more easy to play . Green were fast after reseeding compared to other course we just played two days ago. Unbelievable the green was that fast . I already booked a tee time on December. One of the par 3 at back nine was quite challenge . Bring more balls . Bunker were ok .

Pro Shop Staff were fantastic, warm, welcoming and encouraged to have you as a guest.

On course staff could use a lesson in hospitality. Starter made assumptions about playing abilities without any knowledge of players game(s). Ambassador was annoyingly present even though our group was playing faster than the expected pace of play timeframe despite cart path only requirement because of overseeding.

The course was in great condition considering recent overseeding. Sand in bunkers was damp and heavy because of frosty conditions overnight. The greens were quick and true.

A little disappointed that the restaurant was closed and no driving range available. The disappointment is it was mentioned or discussed on your web site.also cart path only is tough when you are older with lots of walking.
