Great Twilight Rounds
The course was wide open at 415 PM, we played as a twosome, got quickly around in 3 hours 15 minutes.
At times the course is narrow and it is hit the fairway or else. Relatively straight hitting off the tee box is a must, but isn't that true is all of golf.
Course is in great shape., flat tee boxes, ample sand in traps, greens well groomed, not bumpy.
Very nice golf trek
Good blend of difficulties and fun. Nothing too challenging nor too much carry. This is a public So Cal course so it is a bit over played and has several rough patches of over wear. You will enjoy, nice little snack bar too, though a little on the pricy side (beers $6-8 wraps $9).
Worth a Visit
My wife (35 hdcp) and I (3 hdcp) played Red and Blue tees. I found the greens, tees and bunkers in excellent conditions. The fairways were not as good or well manicured, but quite acceptable.
The course is very fair, not too tight off the tee, but the bunkers are well placed and the greens are tricky so you need to be in position to score. The course is anything but flat which adds to the challenge.
For women, the course plays long at 5400+ and one par 3 has a 100 yard carry. However, my wife did enjoy the course very much and did not find it too difficult.
We were made to feel very welcome and our round took 4:15.
PUTTING GREENS HAVE UNDULATIONS CHALLENGES FOR SPEED OF PUTTD
COURSE WAS IN GREAT SHAPE NICE GREENS AND FAIRWAYS. THERE WERE SOME HOLES FAIRWAYS WERE UNDER AERATION . WILL PLAY AGAIN
Did not indicate greens were punched.
Almost five hour round. No indication of arreated greens until you were on course. No indicator on golf now that I could see. They were half punched, but still
wrecked havock with putting game. Not worth the money for sure. Oh, and did I say even though I was playing In a foursome it was painfully slowww.
Brrrrr
Rethink an early t time here in the winter.
It was cold, due to frost it was cart paths only for the first four holes and my toes didn't warm up 'till I finished.
Other than that, great course.
Poor Course Management
We arrived half an hour early for our noon tee time and due to a frost advisory earlier in the day, tee times were delayed 2 hours. We wouldn't be able to tee off until 2pm and they didn't even offer us twilight rates for the delay. Why wouldn't they set up the course as a shotgun session for the delayed times so that the later times would have no issues? Additionally, my husband played a few weeks back and left his glasses and called to report them lost. They claimed they had them and would hold onto the glasses until he came to pick them up and low and behold, there were no glasses to be found. Terrible course, terrible staff, terrible management. Would stay away; there are far more professional courses to play in San Diego.
Bad conditions
I know it's winter, but come on! Bad fairways indicate poor fall maintenance. Do not play this winter no matter how low the green fee. Not worth it unless free.
fast greens and busy day
Late start with the course being booked or overbooked. Pace of play picked up for most of the round. Overall conditions very good. Fresh/new sand in bunkers. No packed stuff. Greens play fast.
Would Expect More from a JC Course
Twin Oaks is one of my favorite county courses but this time it was a disappointment. For the fees that are being charged I would expect to have sand in the traps rather than dirt and small rocks. I am continually frustrated by the lack of either a senior rate or a rate for walkers--more so for a lack of a walking rate. The staff was friendly and attentive and the course generally stood up to the recent rain very well. I will play again but it's a shame that walkers are treated as second class golfers.
Used to be in great shape, not anymore
I have played this course many times in the past. I play three times a week. The condition of this course was unacceptable. Greens were fair, tee boxes were either flooded or bare. The rough and fairways were dry, filled with debris and holes. Very poor
Great course.
Great afternoon prices! Well worth $45....not so sure about $80 though which is the weekend morning rates. It is a nice course though and well maintained.
Rude Staff-Poorly Maintained Range-Expect more out of a JC Golf Couse
I have to say, I have been going to this course for 10 years and recently the staff they have are just plain rude. Nothing to them is about the guest it is just about them. JC Golf should send in some spotters a few times to try and fix this. The range is a joke, worn out mats and balls were dirty and some have been around so long they are smooth and you have all of two targets to hit to. The course conditions were fair, except for the first hole. Not sure what is going on there but what a mess. Greens were ok, bunkers kind of hard. I play most of the JC Courses in this area and Twin Oaks I would say is the worst of all of them especially with the staff ego.
Solid condition
Course had great conditions. Not the tuffest course but considering in San Diego it's very difficult to find an abundance of grass this place had plenty. Greens were in great shape. All in all great for a serious round of golf
Very Disappointing Experience
Made reservation through GolfNow site.
On arrival at the course, the desk manager advised that the back nine was closed due to aeration, and they were only allowing play on the front 9 holes - which can be played twice.
I did not know this and naturally was disappointed to hear but settled for the situation.
THEN, once out on the course, I found ALL the greens on the front nine had been aerated and sand covered as well which wasn't discussed when I agreed to play.
the greens were un-puttable.
Better check before you pay!!
One of my favorite
The course is well maintained by JC. Due to green aerification process we had to play the front 9 twice. But that's okay, the front is more challenging than the back anyway, IMO. Just need to putt as if the hole is farther away. It is a minor inconvenience, however, it's good for my wallet and it's good for the course. A win-win situation! My golf buddies and I had a great time. Thanks JC. Keep up the good work!
Wednesday afternoon
Greens were beat up and there were several areas of stress on most all greens. This course usually has more tournaments than the other JC courses and that = newbies and extremely high handicappers battering the course. I play it when I don't want to drive far. Much better option than St. Mark.
