Willow Creek Golf Course
About
Situated between Greenville and Spartanburg, Willow Creek Golf Course is a favorite course amongst many area players. The course has a classic layout that starts out gently with a player-friendly front nine but then becomes much more challenging on the back nine. The layout is a seemingly mild 6,890 yards from the back tees but it can feel longer because of all the elevation changes you'll encounter. It's a golf course that will appeal to beginners but advanced players will also enjoy the many risk-reward opportunities that can be found throughout. Water hazards come into play on eight holes and there is a slew of strategically placed bunkers lurking along the greensides. The par-5 fifth hole is Willow Creek Golf Course's signature. This 516-yard hole tumbles across rolling hills with a stream that cuts right through the fairway.

Reverse Course
Played a round of golf at Willow Creek today. First time ever breaking 100. The course was reversed due to the greens being replaced. The tee boxes were in front of the greens, the holes played back to the original tee boxes, and the white tee boxes were set up as the temporary greens. The temporary greens were about the size of a parking spot in most cases. The course may not have been regulation, but it was fun and challenging all the same. I can't wait to play there again, once the greens are back open and the course flows the correct direction. The new greens are supposed to open August 30th.
Fun, Fun
Last time playing the course backwards. The regular greens will be open next Friday. It is challenging playing the course backwards. Makes you think more than usual, especially on drives as the landing areas are not generally wide where the ball will land. Also, approach shots to such small greens is interesting. Really enjoyed this approach to the game.
Fun
OK, how many times do you get to play a course in reverse? It was a bit of a challenge since this is not the normal way to play. Yes, the greens are what used to be the tee boxes and they are quite small. Probably why I only hit 2 greens all day. Although I wouldn't want to play this direction all the time, it certainly made you think on the course, which made it somewhat fun.
The fairways were in excellent condition. Some of the best I have played in a long time.
So, just go and have some fun. Where else can you play for $20?
Temporary Greens
My impression of this course is very skewed by the temporary greens. It was beautiful and can't wait to play it when the regular greens are in place. The temporary greens were awful. Some of the tees were like 60 yards past the normal greens/tee box and made Par 4 or 5's basically all 3's or even less if you can imagine that.
Seems like a great course
I think this is a good course, unfortunately they are working the greens presently and we were forced to play the course in reverse. Teeing off from just in front of the greens and putting on the tee boxes. It seems like a nice course and I will return when I can play the course in the correct manner.
Great course!! just not right now
Wait to play!!! They are replacing greens and it's a mess. Wait until August/September to play and it will be fantastic!!
great course once greens get fixed
It was an ok round only because greens was being renovated. So played each hole backwards.Which means in front of each green was actually the tee shot and the tee boxes was the greens.Very small greens to hit too so made it very difficult to hit good approach shots into greens
Always liked it
Always really liked the layout. Usually in good shape. Fairways were great. But greeens are gone. Burnt up or something
Greens have improved
Have played the course 3 times in 2 weeks and have noticed rapid improvement in the greens. I enjoy playing here.
The course generally was in good condition but some of the greens are still suffering damage from last year.
I love the course but the greens do spoil the experience a little.
Nice Course with Variety of Holes
It was perfect weather for our round of golf. We played from the forward tees and it was a fair test for the women in our group (variety of handicaps). Lower handicap female players should probably play the Orange Tees (based on the length of Par 3 holes, which were short from the forward tees).
There were elevation changes and a few holes that required some carry. There is one hole with a creek about 179 yards out that you can't see and it roles down hill towards the creek so either club down or really know your yardage with a GPS device.
The only two "negatives" were a few of the forward tee boxes were uneven and some of the greens had bare spots. However my understanding from one of the locals is that the course is going to redo the greens this July (2019).
Staff was friendly and the club house was nice for a public course.
We played on a Monday mid-day and pace of play was great (played in 4 hours). Not sure what it would be like on the weekend.
I would definitely play Willow Creek again.
Decent Course For Too Much Money
This is a fairly challenging course depending on the tee you play. Tee to green the course is usually in good shape. The greens, those have been poor for the last couple years. Lots of dead spots. Nothing really to brag about with the amenities. Basic kitchen with very basic menu. Greens fees are a bit high considering the pace can be slow and you will be putting through dead spots. All in all this isn’t a bad trek but could be way better.
Fast firm greens
Solid layout fastest and firmest greens I've played in along time.
Excellent course, greens could be better
If they had better or new greens, it would be a top tier golf course.. The greens are holding this course back from the next level.
Switch to Champion Bermuda
I have played this course many times and have always enjoyed it. But the greens this year have been awful. Hope they get this fixed soon so we can come back and enjoy this normally great course.
Good pace of play nice layout
Played early on Saturday morning and pace of play was excellent with our forsome playing in 4 hours and 5 minutes. Staff was friendly and value was good. Several greens were in bad shape with some dead areas. Good layout that is not too difficult for novice golfers
Willow Creek
Find course with challenging growth. Greens look like they had a hard summer.
Sunday Round with friends
Willow Creek used to be one of the best courses in the area. Currently there are several issues that have changed my mind about this.
1) The greens have suffered from Winter Kill and are in a poor condition. Apparently no plan to fix it until next year.
2) some of the bunkers don’t have sand in them or are in poor condition.
3) the Rough is too deep. We all lost several balls in the rough as it was much deeper than the ball diameter making it almost impossible to find them.
