Junior National Golf Club
About
Junior National Golf Club (formerly known as Tres Rios Golf Course at Estrella Mountain Park and Estrella Mountain Golf Course) is rich with dense forestry including eucalyptus, mesquite, and pine trees as well as cottonwoods. The course has a parkland-style layout with rolling fairways lined with trees and undulating greens that are medium-sized and fast. To add more challenge to the golf course, water hazards and bunkers come into play on several holes. The par-4 seventh hole is considered the most difficult driving hole on the course. There are stately trees off the tee and the second shot is to a narrow sloping green. Junior National Golf Club features multiple tee boxes for a variety of different golfing options.

Greens & fairways need attention
Greens were dry and hard as marble and could not hold approach or even pitches very well at all.
Fairways were very poorly overseed and hard and bumpy. Also a big problem with groundhog dirt piles throughout course.
Driving range in poor shape and a safety net is needed to catch stray balls as your car could get hit driving towards parking lot.
Cart access to parking lot would have been nice as much of the parking is distant from bag drop area.
Tee blocks were uneven and many dry and rough.
The course does have great features.
The course does present excellent trials. The greens are somewhat fast and the slopes of the green are also somewhat steep. Very few flat greens. But overall the course is great to play.
Pray for its recovery
I used to play here with some regularity, but hadn't been back since April until yesterday. On the plus side, I do like the layout and scenic location near the mountains. Also, the greens, for the most part, are in good shape.. Unfortunately, the fairways are something else. Those 100,000 gopher holes have now been filled in. But you now how have dirt mounds rising over them. Hopefully, they will be leveled off soon. Until then, the place is a site for sore eyes. And while I managed to avoid the bunkers, a playing partner found them to be seriously lacking in sand.
good course and great value------------
for the money; a great overall value. Nice layout. Length is pretty good for better golfers.
The trees keep you honest while still allowing you to enjoy your round
The course was in the best condition I have seen in a while
boring
The course was boring flat and poor shape there is 100,000. holes on the course 18 on the greens and 82,000.on tne fairways made by goffers. You were better of in ruff where the grass was dorment then in the fairway.
Caddy Shack
This course is in need of Bill Murray. Ground hog holes all over the course. Tee boxes weren't in very good shape, but the greens were rolling pretty nice. Course definitely needs work.
teeboxes were average, fairways need lots of improvement, greens were fair
Good thing the 1h15 min trip was worth it for the scenery. The course needs lots of attention such as fairways, ball washers (non-existant), however for the money it was OK.
Tres Rios... new name for an old stand by...
I like Tres Rios... always have. Been playing it routinely for 20 plus years. The course is as tough or as leisurely as you want to make it... Single digit handicappers will be pushed from the tips and the rest of us can find a suitable length to make it a good outing. Green fees are almost always a bargain.
Tres Rios is never in superb shape nor is it a goat track. In years past it got a little shaggy, but renovations appear to have enduring qualities and a ton of undergrowth has been removed.
Staff is decent for the most part if not the most efficient and rounds are typically about 4 hours, stretching longer on Friday and Saturday, but if you can brave the heat in the summer, even high teen or low twenty handicappers can get around under three hours... I used to play with a couple single digit guys and walking we could play under two hours... This course would be in my top 10 bang for the buck list.
the course needs marshals to keep the speed up. we waited on every tee.
course was in good shape compared to previous owners
Course was in good shape and is fun to play.10
This is a good course to play for any golfer. The holes will challenge all level of golfers and with several sets of tees it is playable for all.
Best Green Under $50
This course is in fine shape, green are rolling very nice.
This course is a good maintained friendly course
I play this course on a regular basis. Since new owners have taken over about two months ago, they keep trying to upgrade the course. Installed GPS on carts this week. Play is getting pretty heavy lately and play has been slower then usual.
Good Value
The course was in good shape following over seeding and there was plenty of sand in their traps. Overall the changes they've been making for about a year have payed off and the course is a lot more enjoyable to play today than 4 years ago.
Few hazards and no significant rough
This is a fairly bland course set in a flat river valley. It could be a lot better if more attention was paid to the condition. They appear to have a gopher problem on many fairways. Good value for the money.
Great place to practice and play.
Played back tees. Course / greens in great shape. Great place to practice / play and is affordable.
Course much improved
Played here Oct 24,25 & 27 2012. Looks like we have a few reviews here that forgot about over-seed season patience. With other local courses closed for over-seed this course is getting alot of traffic from those closed courses. To be totally expected this time of year in Arizona. Course is in good shape and greens are much improved and rolling very nice. I have been in contact with new course superintendent and he is determined to make this a great place for everyone to play and enjoy with fast greens, nice collars around the greens, fresh new sand in bunkers, and an overall clean place to play golf. Great staff that is very people oriented. Green fees are very affordable at $40. Want them less? Don't expect great conditions guys. Budgets? We noticed great favorable change in conditions and we will be back. Enjoyable, yet reasonably challenging course. Nice to see Ladies Cactus Tour playing there when we played. We will be back.
Pro shop chaos
we paid top dollar and made reservations for 1130am tee time. My brother is a vietnam vet and cant walk well at all. I left him at the car while I went to pay and get a cart for him. I was told all the carts were out and to come back 15 minutes before tee time. At 1115 i was told there still were no carts and that they were 20 minutes behind and to come back in 30 minutes. So my brother couldnt hit any range balls or putting green due to the distance to walk. I went back 30 minutes later and there still were no carts. At 1150 we were told we got the carts that were coming off the 18th green and that we were up.. Unreal Then you cant take the cart to pick up a disabled USA vet.. The guys in the pro shop and the marshal seemed to have no idea how to get people to the tee on time..
Way over-priced
$40.00 for this course is way too much. Good course for those wantiing to hack away and have fun. Nice staff.
Played right after overseeding
The play was quite slow and that was frustrating. The course itself was in pretty good shape since it was just overseeded.
