Toka Sticks Golf Club
About
Unlike many other courses in Phoenix, the course at the Toka Sticks Golf Club was not done in a traditional desert-style. It is known amongst locals for having very fast greens, many of which are elevated. The old Toka Sticks course was originally a nine-hole course built in 1945 but in addition to making it an 18-hole, championship course, it has had many renovations in the years since to make it a more challenging and interesting course. There are stately trees present on the course call for straight shots in order to reach the narrow fairways. Two lakes are situated on the course that create water hazards that come into play on sever holes. There are also several well-placed sand bunkers throughout. Toka Stick Golf Club also offers a short game area, a putting green and a driving range.

Generally decent shape
Like a lot of courses, the bunkers need work. Temporarily lost three balls, one to a sprinkler head hole, one to a rodent hole and the other in light rough. Greens were good, fairways had some sparse grass areas. Staff is great.
good value
course was in good shape which is always the first question for a course in July in Phoenix.
was pretty slow for first 12 holes but i think the 2nd time the ranger spoke to the group ahead of us, it picked up. to be fair, it appeared to be a beginner in the group which is not fair to them going out at 8 am on a holiday.
Good day of golf
Fun Course
Played as a 4 on Sat. July 6th, 8:12am. Started and staff pleasant. Range all grass with plenty to hit from (turf at back of tee area). Small but nice practice green. Course itself can be difficult to navigate from green to next tee box but it’s a fun layout. Scorable for low handicappers while not too difficult for the high handicappers. Conditions were above average for summer. Fun time, pace of play around 4 hours and 20ish minutes (expect it on busiest day of week)
Always in good condition
Have no negatives. Toka Sticks course and all of their staff are great. We play this course several times a month and have a great time. Thanks.
Gopher city
Greens were horrible, I know it’s summer but upkeep the greens. No cart girl in the afternoon when it’s over 100 degrees? Gopher holes where everywhere, even lost a ball in one.
Rough shape
The greens are in such bad shape that it’s not a fair test of golf. Even if you find the fairway off the tee and get to the green in regulation, you can’t score well because of the poor condition of the greens. I won’t be back until next Fall.
Greens are dying
Greens not getting enough water. Putting on dirt in some places
Toka Sticks is getting dry
The course is a great course but some greens and fairways are getting dried out.
Please add water especially on those greens.
Other than that this is a great course
Will not golf there again
Pace of play was slow. No marshal out helping with the issue. Course itself had gopher holes everywhere even in tee boxes.
Terrible..
Coarse is in bad shape. Can’t even put a tee in at the tee boxes because the ground is so hard. Sand traps are dirt traps. There is no marshal patrolling so the foursome in front of us spent 15 minutes fishing for balls at every water hole. This is maybe a 30 dollar coarse. WAY OVERPRICED!!!! Will not be coming back.
Toka sticks
9:30 time- started well-flat tree lined course-not much concern-elevated hard greens. Bunkers were good- surrounds were tight but predictable. We were a twosome - caught the twosome (20mins) in front on 9. They stopped at turn and all golf shut down. I can only say the course added groups on 10++. Ground to a halt. Hate that in golf- no respect for starting tee times. Finished front in 1.5 as a two-some. Back was 2.25 waiting on every hole. If you play this course- maybe jump the back first- then play the front?
