Ken McDonald Golf Course
About
Located in the metropolitan Phoenix area, the affordably priced Ken McDonald Golf Course is a championship-length course that is suitable for any level of golfer. The flat terrain of the course makes for an enjoyable stroll, while the water hazards that come into play on eight holes provide plenty of challenge. The water hazards are provided by the Western Canal, which flows directly through the golf course. The par-5 11th hole is the longest on the course at 570 yards; it is very difficult to reach in two shots. In addition to the course, Ken McDonald Golf Course offers several other amenities including a restaurant, club fitting and repairs, and professional golf instruction.

A little gem in the city
Love this course. Well run and in good condition. Friendly staff and a Marshall that keeps things moving.
McDonald golf
Very good course for the money.
Would recommend and play again.
3:51 pace, yes! (Just say no to 4:30 rounds, golfers!!)
If you're a 4 1/2 hour player, you're playing way too slow. Many days at Kenny Mac are conducive to getting a round in under four hours, and that applied today, happy to say.
Love that I was able to get a round in before 10:30 a.m. As long as the early groups are keeping pace with the groups ahead of them and the lead group is playing as fast as this course plays, you can ALWAYS get in under 4 hours. That said, the course management doesn't agree that it's a sub-4-hour 18, so slow play isn't always sped up by the rangers. It happens.
Today was a beautiful day, waited on lead group a lot, but they still finished in under four hours, so I've no complaints. Greens have been pretty good, traps seemed like maybe the course is doing something to make them more consistent, which I appreciate.
And, as always, team is friendly and welcoming.
(Maybe do some work on the practice tee, tho, it's really in rough shape.)
Straight forward
Good value. Fairways in fair condition. Greens in good condition. Pretty straightforward.
Pace, still an issue
Great layout…interesting, forgiving, and still challenging. Incredibly affordable rates. Very nice staff, and great restaurant. All that will keep me coming back.
One thing that’s consistently frustrating: Kenny Mac should ALWAYS be a sub-four hour course. When the course isn’t busy, it’s playable in three hours. I’ve been in foursomes finishing in 3 1/2 hours. Yet it seems groups playing at a 4 1/2 hours or longer pace are never coached to keep pace by the player assistants (such as the starter or on-course marshall). The 4.5 hr pace is considered acceptable by course management, despite that pace being too long by standards at many other courses in the Valley. Would love to see more rigorous enforcement of pace so that groups don’t get backed up all day long because of one outlying slow early group.
THE definition of 4/5 stars
This course is, in my opinion, the best value in all of Phoenix. Sure, the greens have a lot of marks and roll somewhat slow. But for my money I had an amazing time. Always do. Can't recommend it enough - if you like Muni Golf, please do yourself a favor and give Kenny Mac a few rounds. You won't regret it.
Good Public Course
Finding a tee time on this course is tough. The price plus course layout is great for walking and some challenge. Tee boxes were slim on the overseeding, and some greens had issues. Overall it is in good condition.
Worth Playing
This course has been improved since last year. The greens are about a 7 or 8 but putt pretty well. The tees and fairways are decent. The carts are gas and noisy.
Great value golf course
This is a great value golf course. Hope that it remains a municipal course as it is a wonderful asset to the community and travelers.
