About
Located a short distance from Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix and Arizona State University, Kokopelli Golf Course is a championship length course that offers many interesting challenges. The rolling terrain creates sloping greens and undulating fairways. A majority of the teeboxes and greens are elevated as well. The course also has large multiple island tees and water hazards in the form of meandering lakes that come into play on several holes. The signature hole of Kokopelli Golf Course is the par-5 18th hole. The dramatic finishing hole calls for a shot off an elevated too followed by an approach shot past water to an elevated green.

Course layout
Besides the minor construction around the 9th and 10 th holes where the range is the course was in pretty solid conditions. Greens were pretty nice and the ball rolled nicely. Will definitely come back to play again
Wet
Too wet for the price, get a pump and clear some of the water on the fairways.
Thanks for the feedback! We appreciate your concern about the fairways. The thing about the desert is that it gets hot and grass needs water to stay alive. So yes, we do put water on the golf course to stay alive. Thank you for your input and we look forward to seeing you again!
Get What You Pay For
It was fun playing for the price. The course layout is good, presenting challenges for all levels. Note: at booking, there was a note that the course had recently been aerated a few weeks earlier. That being said, I don’t think I will be going back anytime soon.
5:45am T-Time
Critique:
*Greens were really bumpy and slow (had not been mowed recently)
*Because of the flood irrigation, many parts of the course were really swampy
*Several holes and greens still had active sprinklers during play
*Probably a third or half of the bunkers were flooded and not playable
*Driving range was under heavy maintenance and not open
Positives:
*No issues w the pace of play, we were also the 2nd or 3rd group out
*Back 9 conditions were far better than the front 9
*Greens are small targets, well protected and have tremendous potential
*T-Boxes were the best part of the course
This course can potentially be very fun if catching it at the right time, especially for a muni course.
Currently there’s too much renovation going on making it sloppy and unplayable if you are even slightly off the fairway.

Koko
Koko was in decent shape. Looks like they are trying to get the course in better shape. The driving range is under construction but I like the concept they have for it. Staff was great. There was not cart girl on friday but they gave me healthy pours at the turn. Had a fun round of golf.

Under maintenance
Unfortunately, the course was under heavy maintenance during my visit, and the entire back nine was closed. It would have been nice to know that before booking or to receive a more significant discount. The layout has potential, but the current conditions made for a disappointing experience. Hopefully the improvements pay off because the course has a lot of potential.
Lot of character
I forgot how difficult this track is with the undulating fairways and bunker placement greens were nice and seems like it is getting better

Pleasantly surprised!
We were sent out on the back nine and it was soaked but it still played well. Greens were solid and quite frankly, the roll of the ball from the previous group was still seen in the dew which helped our reads! The front nine was dry so it ran more true. Greens were good for this time of year. For $36 at 604am it was a steal! We finished in 3.5 hours.

The course was in the best condition it has been in sometime.
2 years ago I walked off the course swearing I would never return. But, I heard from a few people the course was making a come back. I have always liked the challenging lay out so I tried the course again and was happy with the improvements. The greens even though a little bumpy were very receptive, holding shots and looking very nice. There was a lot more grass on the fairways with very little bare spots. The bunkers were all playable now, with the sand consistent through out the course. Hole 6, par 5, is still almost unplayable with not enough landing area on the 2nd shot but the course said they are looking to fix it. Most of the smaller lakes are now drained and not sure what they are planning on those but oh well. Over all, the course has made great improvements, not quite all the way back but good enough for me to want to come back --especially for the price. This is not a course for beginners though as the course layout is challenging. Good job Kokopelli !!!
Surprisingly good conditions!
Haven't played there in years, so I was pleasantly surprised at the condition it was in, in the middle of the AZ summer.

Good value with early tee times
Overall good value at $30, and it was nice to have a 5:45 tee time for obvious reasons. Only big criticism would be the mud. This course is always muddy every time I play here.(coupla times /year)
We appreciate your feedback on the value and tee time. However, it's important to note that course conditions can vary, and we continually work on improvements. With the heat we are in we do have to water a bit more than usual and are working on this issue. We're proud of our efforts. Hope your next round is a bit drier!

Not well maintained
Only one hole was properly maintained (18th hole). The rest were in horrible shape. Multiple holes had tons of old range balls all over it. Just not what it used to be

This course in bad shape,very wet and muddy while most holes cart path only!! Pass

Pace of play
I have no problem with the pace of play. It’s actually the opposite. A few of my friends and I played on Saturday at a very brief pace. Nobody in front, nobody behind… until hole 3. Then we see a group behind us — 2 men sharing a cart with their wives or girlfriends who weren’t even playing. The pace was normal once they caught up to us (we’d be leaving the green as soon as they stepped on the tee box). Not 3 holes later, the ranger drove up to our group saying to pick up our pace of play as people were waiting long times on tee boxes. We said sure. At that point we were teeing off on hole 7 and on pace to finish 9 hole in under 2 hours. Absolutely unacceptable by staff (or group behind who lied about pace) to mention that to our playing group. Finished 18 in under 4 hours and the group behind us even stopped playing after 9. Terrible golf experience always feeling like you’re holding up the groups behind you (which we were not doing, but were accused of). I will never play at this course again in my life.
