Lakes Course at Genoa Lakes Golf Club
About
The Genoa Lakes Golf Club's Lakes Course brings water into Lake Tahoe-Reno golf. It's found on 14 of the 18 hole on the Lakes Course and it's not always nice tame water of staid old country clubs either. Sometimes you'll be shooting over near swamps with tall gnarly grasses poking out of them. That's the Lakes Course.
It's one of the more natural settings in an area known for its nature settings. You'll see cows along the border of the course - and birds will come flying up that you probably can't identify.
Lakes Course is a Peter Jacobsen and John Harbottle III design with rolling fairways, some tight shot openings and good views. It's 7,359 yards of golf with the Carson River and wetlands riding shotgun. It's located in Carson Valley, an often forgotten town, that's right inbetween the big gaming spots of Reno and Lake Tahoe. That makes Genoa Lakes Golf Club a pretty easy course to get to from most of the popular areas in the High Sierras.

My wife and I had a great day
The weather was perfect. No crowds or holdups on this round. One of the great things about Genoa is the Fall is watching all of the deer on the course. You will easily see 30 deer or more during a round.
Course in Great Condition for November in Nevada
Great to Golf in the afternoon and have dinner at Wallys Hot Springs
Course is in good shape, traps could be better.
What I like about this course is the staff. They are the best in the area, kind, considerate and very accommodating. I lost a GPS distance finder once and they sent out two guys out to look for it, and found it. Greats crew!
One of the four best Northern Nevada courses available for public play
Beautiful riverine setting, with large trees, wetlands and wildlife. Course is challenging without beating you up, Reasonable length advantage is provided for women. Greens were in good condition, although a little slow, probably due to the end of season.
fantastic greens& fairways
We arrived 45 minutes before our tee-time & were able to get right on.We were only a twosome & it seemed like we waited on all short par 4,s & par 3 s,but we finished in 4 hours. The staff were super friendly & the course was in excellent condition for late October. The course has lots of water & sand bunkers, but i was able to(mostly) avoid them and therefore shot a good round. We were able to get a good deal on Golfnow & the weather was perfect for October. (74 f) A must play golf course.
VERY slow day - a sixsome in front, Really?
Great weather day, but......no signage to know where the new pro shop is now, pro shop and starter need to get to know each other some time, no mention that they were starting on hole 10 now, cart died on 17, everything locked up tight at the proshop, including restroom. No water on course - bring your own or get at the turn.
Course offers great challenges.
Genoa Lakes course offers great challenges in the wide variety of tee box choices. It has good length from the tips at 7300 plus.
The staff was very friendly, and we enjoyed ourselves.
The regular clubhouse was closed, I think because of the time of year, and it would have been nice to enjoy a spirit or two after the round in the clubhouse.
But a great deal overall!

Good Course but it was cold
Happy with the layout and the service, beautiful setting but it was a cold and windy day.
Most beautiful course that I have ever golfed.
The staff was very friendly. The course was in fantastic shape and the views were spectacular. Golf conditions could not have been better. The play was a little slow, but everyone was very nice and I would recommend this course to anyone who loves golf as much as I do.
This course was beautiful and a doable challenge.
My husband, sister-in-law and I played this terrific course the other day and all agreed it was one of the best times that we have ever had on a golf course. As 2 of us are less experienced golfers, we chose to play a 3 man scramble in order to maintain a good pace of play and to insure that we could all feel good about the game. We were pleased to have posted 80 on this challenging course.
Travis in the pro shop treated us very well upon arrival and the one set of golf clubs that we rented was nice. The carts were clean and ice chests full of ice; what a nice treat that was.
We hit a few balls before going out and had to find our own buckets to put them in; this is a small detail that didn't matter to us but that might to people accustomed to more service.
The course was beautiful from each and every hole. The fairways were lush and green and all but one green was in very good condition. In spite of a goose problem I heard of, we didn't encounter any and there wasn't much waste. I have played courses where the geese left the greens hard to putt.
The weather the day we played was perfect: sunny, 70's and a breeze. Nirvana.
I hope that we get to repeat this experience in the future; it was a great time on so many different levels.
Spectacular setting and views and pristine condition
Couldn't beat the day. The weather was perfect, the course was in great condition and the pace of play was good. I will definitely be back as soon as possible.
Beautiful facility
We live in Reno and play many local courses; however, this weekend was our first time for the Lakes course (we have played the resort course before). What can I say... the facilities, setting, wildlife (deer) on the course made us feel like we were on vacation. A great day of golf!
Great Course!! great value
Genoa Lakes course is in Excellent condition, great layout, friendly staff. The pace of play was very slow with no marshal to keep things moving (midweek in the afternoon). Otherwise it was a great experience to play this course. I played this course about 20yrs ago when I lived in Calif and came here for a tournament.
Nice course
Great value for money. Course could be better maintained in some area (either too dry or too humid). Holes have versatile patterns which makes the journey very fun.
lots of water
slow play, difficult for first time players,no shade since we played on a hot afternoon,no marshall when you needed one, 4 groups at he turn due to food service.- not a good afternoon!!
This coure had a variety of challenging fairways and greens.
we had a great game. The course is challenging wih a lot of water hazards. The green and gold T boxes add a distance challenge. Play them if your drive is greater than 275 otherwise get used to playing a different second iron shot.
Some of the fairways are undulating and add another dimension to the game.
Some of the greens are small where as others are wide. The smal ones are primarily on the par Threes which are surrounded by water, hazzards and bunkers.
beautifully maintained with friendly staff
Played at 2pm so wind was challenging. If you want calmer conditions play earlier in the day. As a two some played the course in 3 hrs 15 mins. Water and marshes come into play even from blue tees. Greens were receptive and moderate in speed.
Great course against the edge of the Sierra's in the Carson Valley.
Course has something for everyone, up to and including the deer we saw while on the course. Tee placements allow for good golf for beginners and the best. Plenty of yardage for the long ball hitters and holes with water to keep you driving the straight ball. You can also work the fade and draw on the doglegs as they are well placed to allow you to try to take the shot. Green are large but not so large that they are easy. All in All I had a great Father's day round of golf with my son. Will play it again when I go back to visit.
The course fairways and greens were in good shape, however, some of the traps lacked full sand and were muddy in some spots
I've played this course several times before and found it to be in great shape. This trip the course seemed a little less maintained, although it was still playable, Just average.
Vacationing in Tahoe and this was worth the drive!
Had a great time at Genoa Lakes. Nice course in a beautiful location (Carson River Valley). Extremely windy (4 club wind on most shots) day when we played, but they can't control the weather so I won't put that on the course. Course was challenging but fair. Not used to the long rough cuts, but again, it's my job to keep it in the short stuff.
