Long Bay Club

About
The Long Bay Club boasts a Jack Nicklaus Signature design that is consistently ranked as one of the top golf courses in South Carolina, a major accomplishment when you're competing with golf destinations such as Hilton Head and Kiawah Island. The landscape showcases the beauty of the Lowcountry with forests of pines, dogwoods, and maple trees divided by clear blue streams. The golf course design closely mimics the natural contours of the terrain but there are also countless large, man-made mounds that were seamlessly sculpted into the surroundings. It is considered one of the toughest golf courses on the Grand Strand. Golfers will face numerous bunkers that are seemingly bottomless as well as vast waste areas. The signature hole is the par-4 10th, which features a u-shaped waste area that completely surrounds the fairway and then crosses in front of the elevated, contoured green.

Post hurrican condition
I like the course because It's easy to play regardless of your handicap. There's nothing memorable however. We played, cart path only and the greens and fairways were surprisingly not bad. I played it 30 years ago and I hope I can come back in another 30 years.
Liked the course was very challenging. Greens were a little slower than I like. Staff were very good.
Long Bay
Excellent condition with a challenging layout. Course was not tricked up with blind holes or missing fairways. Definitely needs to be on you list of courses to play.
Don't do it
Long Bay was once a sought-after tee time for a course designed by one of the greats and maintained in pristine condition. This is no longer the case. This course will always be a great track based solely on the design. But the course conditions have fallen significantly. The greens that were just revamped in 2023 are already gone. Large portions are nothing more than dirt. The remaining portions are extremely slow, leaving the large undulations null and far from the intended design. The detail is no longer there with the maintenance. The large waste bunkers that are a big part of the design are no longer sand but a mixture of crushed coquina rock and dirt. There is no way I would play a shot off of that surface, unless you truly hate your golf clubs. I'm assuming this change was made to reduce the amount of maintenance on these waste "bunkers". This course was once a solid track, but sadly it has fallen from that level.
Beautiful 9
Played the front nine for my first visit to Long Bay. Course is in excellent shape. I am looking forward to playing 18 in the near future’
Expect Better
We played this course in May (2024) and now again in June (2024). The layout is good, and the course is challenging to play. On both visits, the course was overbooked. Pace of play was terrible and both rounds were over 5 1/2 hours. On our most recent visit, there was a SC Senior tournament taking place in the A.M. and the course was jammed from start to finish. Stop booking golfers if the course is full! This seems to be an ongoing issue and will likely force us find a replacement course during our upcoming golf Get-Aways.
Greens are better but still rough at spots. Lastly, the Bag/Starter staff are not always super friendly. It's hit or miss.
This course needs to pick up their game and until they do, we have other options to play.
First time to Long Bay
First time playing this golf course. The design is simply perfect. A lot of sand trap and water. Quit challenging.
In the other hand, this golf course need a little bite more LOVE. The fairways are a bit damage. It would be a perfect golf course with new grass and change the sand surface that appears on many holes.
Otherwise I love played that course.
Sunday funday
The course was in good shape, the greens are not perfect but rolled a lot. I would play again but got in to give it a month or so to let the greens fully come in.
