The Lakes Course at Red Hawk
About
The Lakes Course at the Resort at Red Hawk is a Robert Trent Jones masterpiece that has helped vault Reno and the High Sierra into the upper echelon of West Coast golf destinations. Named the best daily fee golf experience by readers of the Reno-Gazette Journal, the Hills Course is a challenge not to be missed.
Playing to more than 7,100 yards from the tips, the Lakes Course is a haven for big hitters who love dangerous risk-reward opportunities, as well as for players who thrive on accuracy in their golf game. More than 100 bunkers challenge golfers, as do a plethora of trees and water hazards that both add to the aesthetics of the course, and the difficulty.
Along with its sister, the Hills Course, the Lakes Course has helped the Resort at Red Hawk become synonymous with stellar golf action and excellent service.

Excellent course
Red Hawk to me is the best course in Reno/Sparks area for sure! Great course!
Expensive for spring golf
Would have paid $20 or $40 more for better course in Portal or Clio. First hole, bunkers were filled with water and ponds around course looked parched. Golf carts are better than most courses in Reno.
Two golf courses at one location
We played the Lakes course as the Hills course was closed, not sure why. They are also working on the driving range, so only a few spots on mats were available for warm up. Good putting and chipping area. It's early in the season, but course is green already and in decent shape.
Husband always complains when the pre-programmed carts instruct you to stay 30 feet from the green and stop working even though you are still 30 or more yards from the green. It is annoying.
Apres golf, visit the clubhouse bar and David's Grill, you won't be disappointed.
Great course. Slow play.
I hate having to whine to the pro-shop about slow play, but we were behind a pathetically slow group who didn't allow us to play through. Called the pro shop and they asked the four stooges to speed up at the turn. They didn't. Took 5 hours to play! To add insult, an apparel cop gave me grief for not having a collared shirt AFTER our round and AFTER turning in my cart. I explained that I removed my collared shirt at the end of the round. No apology. Really? All other staff were great. Otherwise, a great course with nice amenities. Upon check-in, inform players that golf is a 4-hour game MAX and to be courteous and respectful to others by getting out of the way.
Very Good Course
Very nice layout, in excellent condition, but needs some yardage markers.
Really impressed!
Price was very reasonable and the course was in really good condition so early in the season. Friendly staff, especially Mike who brought me my club! Ordered a chicken sandwich and it was really tasty. Caleb was a hoot. Carts were very nice and comfortable. Unfortunately, the old curmudgeon starter teed us off (pun intended). Taking my cart over to the practice green, he yelled, "Hey, you need to check in!" I said, "I'm heading to the putting range, we don't tee off for 20 minutes". "You need to check in now!" Then, he wanted a receipt from my playing partners. It was pre-paid and we didn't have a receipt, so we had to wait for him to call the pro-shop to see that we were legit. The old coot needs to realize this is the hospitality business. I told him that "I'm not impressed with your treatment". He didn't seem to care.
Redhawk Lakes
I play this course about a dozen times a year. The course condition was much better than it was last year at this time.
Course is shaping up nicely, but like all courses in the Northwestern Nevada area, I just don’t understand how there isn’t some decent sand in the bunkers?!?!?!….. after all, we are living in a desert……. Sounds like a business opportunity to me!!
One of the slowest rounds of my life.
I was literally waiting on every tee box
Sometimes i was even waiting in the fairway too..
Course is in good shape and the greens are rolling good tho.
Labored
Very slow pace of play, quit after nine holes that took three hours. Never saw a marshal.
