The Lakes Course at Red Hawk
About
The Lakes Course at the Resort at Red Hawk is a Robert Trent Jones masterpiece that has helped vault Reno and the High Sierra into the upper echelon of West Coast golf destinations. Named the best daily fee golf experience by readers of the Reno-Gazette Journal, the Hills Course is a challenge not to be missed.
Playing to more than 7,100 yards from the tips, the Lakes Course is a haven for big hitters who love dangerous risk-reward opportunities, as well as for players who thrive on accuracy in their golf game. More than 100 bunkers challenge golfers, as do a plethora of trees and water hazards that both add to the aesthetics of the course, and the difficulty.
Along with its sister, the Hills Course, the Lakes Course has helped the Resort at Red Hawk become synonymous with stellar golf action and excellent service.

Course Management is Awful
I have been a resident of Reno for over 45 years. I have played Red Hawk since it first opened and have never been more dissatisfied and disappointed than I was on this round. No course marshall. Players screwing around on the course. Tee times too close to each other. We waited on every tee box for a least 10 minutes. I don't know what happened to Red Hawk but it is not for the better. There are many more well managed courses available in the Reno area. I was offered a discount on my next round for my troubles. I should have been offered a free round for our group. I will not be returning to Red Hawk nor will I be recommending it to anyone I know until management makes a proven change.
Ehhhh…
I actually used to have a membership here. Not worth it, go to hidden Valley, or any of the Duncan courses. Red hawk is a fine track. Like a $40 course at best if a town has more than four courses. Their problem is they try to charge you like a super nice course. Then you get out there and wonder where all the money is going. Bunkers are wildly inconsistent, most are full of rocks, they still use the big hole punches for the greens so it’s been 2 to 3 months since they punched them, and the greens still roll like the moguls section on mt. rose.
Most of the people are very nice, the young guys in the pro shop are awesome, cart girls are very nice, restaurant staff awesome! But the Marshalls….. my god! The older Marshalls, the lady- Mary and her partner in crime. I think his name is Steve or something like that tries to force you to drive the same car as somebody HE wants to pair you up with, if you want your own cart he tries to make you pay $20 even though nobody else says anything about it anywhere. Those two are always up to some shenanigans.
I know people that go hit on the range who are not trashy in any way shape or form, but they might go out in a nice T-shirt and a pair of shorts with tennis shoes. They’ll come up to you and tell you that you’re not allowed to be there if you’re not in a collared shirt. Even though the practice facility is for sure at the bottom of the barrel for Reno. The layout is terrible, the turf mats haven’t been replaced in years he Maisel just hit off the sidewalk, it’s got to be the dumbest chipping green on the West Coast and it’s got a bunch of mold. When I was on the putting green the holes had no white cup in them, it was just a whole cut in to the grass.
I mean that’s all fine if you want to run a very upscale course and the ambience is at that standard… I love playing courses like that. I just played a $600 course in Hawaii. But you pay $80 and deal with all that when it’s evident they cut corners on quality any chance they get…
If you’re from out of town looking for a place to play, I’d go to Lake Ridge or Wolf run.
okest
The weather wasn't perfect like selected, but it's March it was good for March. The greens weren't great, but it's March they were better than I expected. The weather was ok, the course was ok, it was March and I got to go out and swing the clubs with my buddies. Had a wonderful time.
Winter
Course is in brown winter playing conditions as expected in March. Greens were true and rolled fine. Actually soft enough to leave ball marks despite the cold. Only preventable condition issues is bunkers are a loaded w/ LOTS of golf ball size and smaller rocks in every bunker. Pick them out to save your clubs.
Great Golf Course
This two courses are always fun and challenging. It can get windy at times which makes it a little more challenging. The Hills course may be a little easier than the Lakes but I recommend playing both. These are my go to courses when visiting Reno.
Beautiful Course
Greens were recently punched and the course still played and rolled very nice. though course on certain holes but an overall great place to play.
Winter golf
While the layout is good, the policy of keeping golf carts on the path at all times throughout the entire course, becomes extremely tiresome. It also slows down play. It took 5 hours and 20 minutes for an 18 hole round. As a senior golfer, I would not recommend this course, until spring/summer, when carts are allowed near where the ball lands.
Course could use some work.
Course is definitely showing winter problems.
The staff is great. The greens look like they were just punched and sanded, making putting very inconsistent.
Cart Paths only
I saw no reason for paths only, the course was not wet. It made for a long day with a lot of long walks.
The course itself is nice with a nice layout but paths only made it very tough to play. I won’t play there again until you can drive on the course.
Winter at Redhawk
Through Golfnow, price was much better. Redhawk winter rate was $65 on a Saturday. Terrible. Paid $48 through Golfnow. Double stacked shotgun start made pace of play long. No carts on fairways was a pain too. Prices seem to be on the climb in the area. Golfnow makes it less painful!
Winter conditions
Greens were recently plugged, looks like most of them have some kind of mold/patchy. Cart path only. Fairways are in solid shape for winter. Cruised through the front 9 in less than 2 hours then it was clogged up on the back, 5 some playing in front of us. Would be nice if courses dropped the rates some for the funky greens
Red Hawk Lakes
Have played Red Hawk since it opened. Winter conditions do course was not in its best condition.
Cart path only.
Courses should let us know that its cart path only before we book a tee time. Pace of play was so slow because of this. It would have been faster to walk and play with a pull cart.
