The Lakes Course at Red Hawk
About
The Lakes Course at the Resort at Red Hawk is a Robert Trent Jones masterpiece that has helped vault Reno and the High Sierra into the upper echelon of West Coast golf destinations. Named the best daily fee golf experience by readers of the Reno-Gazette Journal, the Hills Course is a challenge not to be missed.
Playing to more than 7,100 yards from the tips, the Lakes Course is a haven for big hitters who love dangerous risk-reward opportunities, as well as for players who thrive on accuracy in their golf game. More than 100 bunkers challenge golfers, as do a plethora of trees and water hazards that both add to the aesthetics of the course, and the difficulty.
Along with its sister, the Hills Course, the Lakes Course has helped the Resort at Red Hawk become synonymous with stellar golf action and excellent service.

Solid Course
Red Hawk treated my brother and me very well. Pro Shop guys were nice, starter was very friendly, cart girl was great, and the course conditions were solid. Driving range has mats. Most holes on the Lakes course are pretty forgiving. Wide fairways with plenty of room. However, if you miss the fairways you're in trouble. The course won't wear you out, but you still have to make good shots to score well. I'd definitely recommend this course.
Nice course!
Except for a rather odd encounter with the bag boy who was new I guess, it was a great experience. Got a little tired of the golf cart barking at me all the time. The GPS didn't like me being in the rough all the time. Got a little old.
Hills course
Great course. Every tee box felt good to the eye with a driver in hand which is nice. The only course I've played in Reno area where the greens bite on any type of shot. They're really soft! Greens also putted really smoothly. Having short par 3's even on black tees is really nice (one long par 3 was good too). Some challenging rough in spots although you really need to miss to get into it. My GPS wasn't working to start round and Marshall drove in and got me a new cart. I played solo on a Monday and finished in roughly 3 1/2 hours. Great layout and views. I highly recommend to play here mid week. It was a blast and a steal for the hot deal at $37!! My new favorite course in Reno.
Hills Course
Super Course great shape! Second Restroom was a disaster toilet over flowing!
Beautiful Course
My sister and I played this course twice (the Lakes and the Hills). Both courses were in excellent shape and we had a terrific time. The course restaurant is also very good (ate there twice as well). Everyone is very amenable and friendly. We will definitely be back!
Not very good service. Slow play.
Decided to try a course in the Reno area as I travel there several times a year. It is obvious from the attitude of the employees that the course is primarily for members. We teed off on time however by the second hole we were waiting on every shot. An employee came up and told us they had a tournament an he was going to try to speed them up to keep the round under 5 hours. Just barely made that. The beverage cart showed up as we were coming up the 9th fairway. Told her we would stop at the turn. Stopped at the snack bar and no one was there. After about 5 minutes a woman told us she would be right there. She then proceeds to serve drinks at the bar and chat with the customers while we waited. After another 5 minutes we left. The beverage cart then showed up as we were going up the 18th fairway. Not an enjoyable round. Next trip we will try another course.
Up to the challenge
Lots of water and bunkers. Fun, challenging course. Carts have GPS.
Unbelievably SLOW play
Booked a tee time for myself and my cousin. We teed off at 11:40 am and had to wait on EVERY hole. We were informed that there was a tournament that morning, and that there were no problems. WRONG!! The tournament took a lot longer than expected and the course was overbooked. It was 100 degrees and we waited every shot. The foursome in front of us were playing tees that they had NO business playing. The marshal told us that things were getting better and that play was speeding up. WRONG AGAIN!!! When we made the turn, we encountered two foursomes waiting to tee off. This was a little after THREE HOURS!!! We expressed our disappointment to the marshal and requested a refund of half the green fees. He spoke to the pro shop and we were informed that we would have to speak to Golf Now about the refund. Golf Now called the pro shop and the rep at Golf Now credited my account with half of the green free charges. They were great! In my opinion, the management of this course acted in a greedy way by overbooking on the day of a tournament. It will be a very long time before I ever play there again!
Great day greens perfect
Beautiful day played early am before the heat the greens ran so smooth made some incredible putts it was great
still early
Fairways are coming along nicely...greens were over watered and soft....bumpy and not rolling smooth....needs a couple more weeks to dry out and recover from arification.
Beautiful Course
Played on the Lakes Course, beautiful course, well groomed, good level of difficulty great staff, never rushed and only held up slightly
Round at Red Hawk
Took 4 hours 45 minutes to play.
Have a lot of buildings to navigate to get from parking lot, to pro shop, to restaurants, to driving range,.
Never did see a putting green.
Driving range was mats only, this in June. Very poor set up.
Starter acted stressed out to say the least. Once I got on course I saw why. A tournament in front of us (went off at 9:20), followed by a twosome, solo, foursome, and another twosome. Waited on every hole. Saw a Marshal once, about #12, said the last tourney group was a couple holes behind but thought he had them going. Picked up a little.
No workers around to check in cart, help with clubs nothing. Seemed very unorganized.
Great game
Played with Jim and Hardey who live on the course and they were a great help and made the day. MY partner, Erick, lives in Reno, and has played the course several times. All and all I had a great time and will be back again when I return to Reno.
Slow play
Everytime i go by the 9th hole its back up. Sometimes l back 9 can take 30minutes a hole. Some of the slowest golf ever. I usually end up skipping holes. Never seen a marshall making people move faster.
Good early season start
First time my wife and I played this course. The red tees were particularly good for her as most of the holes did not present her with a hazard to go over and this made the round very fun for her. Fairways and rough were in good shape for this early in the season. Greens were a little slow and took getting used too, probably also due to time of year. Course was very fair on most fairways you could swing hard off the tee and keep it in play. We will be back. Great value and a very fun day.
The old and the new
Red Hawk in Sparks NV has a old school feel in many way, the kind of old school that makes golf one of the worllds greatest institutions. What makes Red Hawk new is the unparralelled modren approach to everything from your carts own gps to the details that allow for a world class golf expereince.
Hats of to the Staff ot Red Hawk "Excellent Job Well Down"
