The Lakes Course at Red Hawk
About
The Lakes Course at the Resort at Red Hawk is a Robert Trent Jones masterpiece that has helped vault Reno and the High Sierra into the upper echelon of West Coast golf destinations. Named the best daily fee golf experience by readers of the Reno-Gazette Journal, the Hills Course is a challenge not to be missed.
Playing to more than 7,100 yards from the tips, the Lakes Course is a haven for big hitters who love dangerous risk-reward opportunities, as well as for players who thrive on accuracy in their golf game. More than 100 bunkers challenge golfers, as do a plethora of trees and water hazards that both add to the aesthetics of the course, and the difficulty.
Along with its sister, the Hills Course, the Lakes Course has helped the Resort at Red Hawk become synonymous with stellar golf action and excellent service.

Bring your own water
Played this course on a Saturday afternoon 1:00 T-time, sunny 90 degrees. Arrived with great expectations after reading the reviews, once the pro shop had my money it all went downhill from there. Signs posted all over the place "No outside food or beverage" which is normal, I am ok with that, signs posted saying beverage cart is on the course, perfect. Had a hard time figuring out where to park the cart for the driving range until the all in one, starter, range attendant, groundskeeper, janitor told me to just park it anywhere. Round started great good course if you hit it straight, over 100 bunkers on the course, greens in good shape just not consistent through 18. Ran into a foursome on the second hole that took forever until the turn where we played through, NO MARSHALL anywhere around. Was a 90 degree day, no water for drinking anywhere on the course, and low and behold NO beverage cart anywhere also. Overall good little course with tons of sand but it had that country club appeal but delivered the community course feeling. Too many good courses around area to play again.
Wonderful course
Great course with a challenging layout that can be mitigated by using easierT boxes. Sand needs some maintenance, but fairways and greens were near perfect.
the lakes
Played the lakes for the first time this year on 7/8/16 on a beautiful day. The greens were in awsome shape and rather quick which I like. I only found 2 bunkers out of over 100, and the sand was the best I have seen it, so getting out of the sand was fun. The fairways are very wide here so one is almost always hitting their second shout from the fairway, nice. Really enjoyed playing by my self in less that 3 1/2 hrs. Really looking forward to playing here again soon.
Fun to play
Played on a beautiful, breezy spring day. The greens still had some aerification signs but we're still okay to putt. Tees and fairways in excellent condition. Our 3 players played different tees but the challenge was fair for lower and higher handicappers. The landing areas are very generous for a course with the slope rating it has but plenty of bunkering makes you think your way around. The staff was very personable and helpful too. I will definitely go back my next visit to the Reno-sparks area.
Great condition, both fairways and greens
Wind from 25 to 40 miles per hour, I hit 120 yard club over green at 175 yards, and normal Driver was 70 yards short into the wind. However; no one else on the course enabled me to play 18 holes in 2 hours.
Sunday at the Lakes course.
Started on time. Course in great condition compared w last years when economy down. Good pace of play 4h 20 min. Greens tough but reasonably true even though punched and sanded 1 week before. I would play again if they kept the price reasonable. (or a discount for walkers)
Golf now for Herv.
Excellent course to play at and GolfNow makes it affordable for someone like me to enjoy. Thanks for the opportunity!
Very nice course
Saved about $15 by booking through Golfnow.com. Played with some local guys that knew the courses well. There are two courses and I played the Lakes. I was told this one was a little harder than the Hills.course. Great day of golfing with some very friendly locals. I would recommend this course if your playing in the Reno/Sparks area. I did purchase a bucket of balls and when I got to the range it was closed so double check with them to verify the range being open.
Switched Courses
I played the first 5 holes of the Lakes course without encountering any other golfers. On the 6th hole there was a foursome on the green and the beverage cart was coming my way so I asked the gal if there was another group on 7. She said it was really backed up, and a high school girls tournament was getting ready for a shotgun start. I thought I was going to have a miserably long round. She then said the Hills course was virtually deserted, so I drove over there and started on the 6th tee, and breezed my way through a less than 3 hour round! Why didn't the golf shop guy tell me about how crowded the Lakes course was, and suggest I play the Hills course? Poor customer service.
first off
Great time and excellent pace even as a single. A arrived late and was sent rite out no problem. Once you find first hole the rest was easy to navigate.
Fun Course To Play
Very well maintain course. The club is right around the corner from where I live. i haven't played there previously because it is fairly expensive for my retirement budget. Discount rates through GOLFNOW made playing possible. Watch out for the many fairway bunkers.
Nice course but bring water
The course was in excellent shape and very pretty. However, if you play in hot weather, as we did, be sure to bring water with you. There is no water on the course and despite assurances, we only saw cart girl once in 18 holes.
Very Nice Golf Expereince
Despite afternoon wind gust of 20-25 mph, the golf experience here was very positive. The course was in excellent shape, the course somewhat challenging with wind direction and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely play again if I am in the area and would recommend play to anyone interested.
A day at Red HAwk Lakes Course
The Lakes course is one of my favorites. The day was brutally hot at 100 degrees. I was behind a twosome .
The pace was slower then usual due to a tournament, and as the day went on the pace got slower and slower due to the heat. The beverage cart was in circulation and the course marshal stopped by a few times to keep me updated on what was going on up ahead. I passed the waiting time by repairing divots in the tee boxes , and fixing ball marks on the greens. An enjoyable day never the less even with the brutal heat.
Excellent course
Very friendly and accommodating staff..
Greens in excellent shape. Very true roll with only minor irregularities.
Not a grip and rip course. Has to be played with thought and planning.
Well worth the fees and should be on every visitors playlist.
Lakes better than Hills...
Great course especially when we have water... Much preferred to their hill course
Great Course
What a great course. Played the Lakes and really enjoyed it. Discounted afternoon rate started at 2. Gave us more than enough time to finish without being rushed. Will be a favorite Reno stop from now on.
Nice to a tourist
I was in town just goofing off for a couple of days and some people recommended this course. Great condition, challenging, and nice staff.
