Pajaro Valley Golf Club
About
Originally designed by Floyd McFarkland, Pajaro Valley Golf Club has large Monterey Pines lining its generous rolling fairways. Elevated tees provide scenic views of the Pajaro Valley below. Opened in 1922 and redesigned in 1962 by Robert Muir Graves, the course features small bentgrass greens and four ponds with water in play on three holes. The fourth is one of the course's most challenging holes, a 420-yard par 4 with triple-tiered green. The course also was once the home of former U.S. Open champion Olin Dutra, who spent the last part of his career teaching here.

Lost Greens
The great price on GN was the hook to play here. Sadly, even at the great rate it’s not worth it. They’ve lost virtually all the greens. The front isn’t as bad but imagine bad acne covering 60% of the green with a slight depression. Makes it kinda hard to actually roll a putt. The back side greens were worse with dried, cracked earth on the edges and more and deeper acne. Not worth playing at any price till they fix the greens. 😢
Dont play here until greens are fixed
Greens are totally diseased and unplayable. Should have been told in the golf shop as they told us had been going on for more than three weeks after we asked at the end of the round. They should give everyone a heads up or their money back. I feel sorry for those who paid full price as a total waste. call before you book and dont waste your time here.
The staff is very friendly and nothing against them but the course is the worst I have ever seen it. Sad shell of what it used to be.
Golf now should put a warning on your website similar to an aerification alert.
Bumpy greens with large dead spots
Easy access to course with ample parking. Starter was friendly. Fairways are wide with decent slopes. Views of surrounding areas are excellent. Greens are not smooth with large & numerous dead spots (insect damage)? Carts were newer with club and ball washers, electronic displays were removed.
Played mid day on a Saturday, without delays/backups.
Decent value, but greens can use improvement.
Greens and #13 fairway need attention.
Pajaro Valley Golf Course has made some serious efforts to improve the golf experience there - like upgrading their golf cart fleet, and mowing all the white daisy’s on their fairways - but more needs to be done.
The greens need some serious attention, the fairways on holes 13 and 14 need drainage issues addressed, and their cart paths need much improvement . A broader beer selection would be nice as well.
But it’s no easy job maintaining a golf course - and these guys are certainly trying…
Not worth the money right now
Great layout but something must have happened with the maintenance on the greens recently. The greens are in horrible shape right now. Bunch of brown, dead spots, very bumpy. Not worth the cost at this time until they resolve the greens issues.
At least Half the greens, are at least half dead.
Greens were pretty bad, the back nine had some that were the worst I’ve seen. Casserly Par 3 has better greens. Second time here and was pretty disappointed in the conditions. Layout of the course is fun but with the greens and fairways in such rough space, hard to feel satisfied with the cost.
Good Value, but course conditions very rough
Getting the afternoon Hot Deal, the value paid is a good value. So even though the course conditions, including the putting greens are in very rough shape, you have to expect that for the price of the Hot Deal being offered. The greens are bumpy and not smooth or roll true. The lack of water or irrigation already shows--many brown, burn spots or thin turf. But I feel I got my money's worth. It's an excellent and challenging layout. I still enjoyed my round. I played in 3 hours because I started on the back nine first at around 1 p.m., where fewer golfers were on. Then played the front nine at around 2:30 p.m.
A Flash from the Past
Hadn’t played Pajaro in years. Had a wonderful time enjoying the layout with my buddies, along with a local, Brett, who joined us and helped us to navigate the course. Great guy. Had a great time and we will be returning soon.
Fun, but the greens are looking pretty bad
I like the course, but the grass on the greens looks infected.
Nobody on the course. We played 18 in 3 hours with a cart
Fairways are drying out. They need more water. Some greens are starting to show signs of a fungus.
My hometown!
I used to play there back in the ‘70’s. I play there once in awhile. I like going back home to visit Taylor’s hot dogs, the Wooden Nickel, California Grill, Gizdich Ranch, Freedom Bakery, Freedom Meat Locker & Corralitos market!
The course is in good shape and the driving range is nice too! and the staff are really nice.
I heard the restaurant is new, I’ll try it next round!
Concerning
This course has really gone downhill within the past year. Dry fairways and bumpy and dry greens. Disappointing because the layout is good. Unfortunately at this time, it's not worth it to play when there's better conditions for around the same price elsewhere.
PV naturalist transition
PV is an exceptional Track but in poor condition. It's my recommendation that PV transitions to a naturalist style golf course with a Single line targeted irrigation system that can substantially shrink the irrigation footprint of the golf course. By transitioning to a naturalist style golf course, PV will save the City water while simultaneously allowing the maintenance staff to MANICURE and actually seed a smaller portion of the golf course and make PV more competitive with similar golf courses in the Watsonville Santa Cruz area.
