Maderas Golf Club is one of San Diego's most popular courses. Although it is less than an hour from Torrey Pines, it has a stunning landscape and challenging design that rivals that of the famed seaside course. Maderas may not have the ocean views, but its beautiful landscape provides just as much scenery. Nestled inland amongst rolling hills, the golf course weaves through rocky cliffs and outcroppings. There are mature trees throughout as well as a meandering creek and over forty acres of native wildflowers. There are three sparkling lakes and five waterfalls that come into play on the course. The demanding layout features difficult greens that are large and lightning fast. Several tricky uphill and downhill lies can be found throughout Maderas Golf Club thanks to the hilly terrain.

Amazing Corse and staff

Played with my wife as a Christmas present and we were looking forward to eating after the round at their grill. Unfortunately and fyi for anyone who may go on a Monday/ Tuesday be advised that the snack/ beverage cart leaves early and the grill closes early as well. These were the only negatives of our round as the service was great when encountered.

Great setting and layout

Mostly very good, with fun greens

If you're going to have a bad hole, best to have it on the front nine.

This is equally true of golfers and golf courses. Maderas' version is the unfortunate, shoehorned par-5 8th, which just doesn't fit the rest of the golf course and leaves a bit of a sour taste.

Luckily, it's a brief one, as the rest of the course is solid and reaches some impressive heights, both literally and figuratively. The greens have a surprising amount of movement for a course of this vintage, with various gathering features that can make some short shots an awful lot of fun. Plus, the drop-shot par 3s on the back nine - 15 and 17 - help bring things to a rousing conclusion. A very fun course to play with beautiful facilities and nice people.

Well worth the money

Course is in fantastic shape for the end of the season fairways and rough are pristine. Greens ran a little slow but are true and honestly I liked them a lot . Staff was incredible big kudos to the starter fantastic gentleman. All in all a great day on the golf course and we’ll worth the money all year round would love to play this course mid season to see how great it is. Great layout and a really good challenge for anyone like me who doesn’t like to play the same course over and over.

PS: for all you military members out there they offer a fantastic military discount, me and my buddy are both active and got a great price on a Friday (and holiday) I would recommend this course to any serious golfer in the area.
