Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon - Legends Course
About
Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon offers two 18-hole championship courses, the Legends and the Champions. Nestled in the foothills of the San Gorgoncio and San Jacinto Mountains, both courses have a scenic landscape that offers stunning views. The Legends Course is the newer of the two but it provides just as challenging a game as the Champions, which is a PGA Tour favorite. The Legends twists and turns through the winding elevations, demanding accuracy throughout. Like its sister golf course, there are numerous steep-lipped bunkers treacherously placed along the greensides. The rough is also tall, thick, and unforgiving. The tricky par-3 fourth hole is played from the highest point on the property. From the tee, the canyon seems more intimidating but the wildly sloped green is where the challenge begins.

Great option for reasonable price
I used to live in SoCal but moved to New Hampshire in 2000. Out here visiting family and booked this course with my dad. Had a 10:20 tee time and luckily dodged a large tournament of real estate folks but they played on the Champions course. They got us out at 10:00 and paired us up with a single. The front side seemed to require very accurate tee shots. The back nine was much more forgiving. All holes required a demanding second shot as you normally had a bunker with a severe slope guarding the green. The layout was intriguing and only one hole was a slight disappointment due to it being a blind second shot but overall was very impressed with the course. The only other fault was the green speeds were somewhat inconsistent but most courses are like that.
Great course but...
Went out at 0730 with a member of the Men's Club and a couple of his friends. It was quite chilly and got really cold when the wind kicked up. Overall the course is still pretty good but there are some GLARING problems that you should know about. First the greens are NOT recovered from being punched. They're very slow and were quite moist so the balls gathered a lot of sand while rolling. Lots of putts left short all day.
Second, the bunkers are void of ANY sand. Good luck trying to find any consistency that you can play with. And the stones! They're 10% stones in the bunkers.
Last is they still have that weed infestation on the greens. It's not as bad as it has been but certainly the greens need some serious help. And they still can't trust you to write your name on the cart contract. But the layout, esp on Legends, is a good one. Still a good course. If they fixed their greens and bunkers then they would be on a par with some greats like Oak Quarry or Goose Creek. Then they could charge twice as much and we'd gladly pay it.
Two good courses.
I just wish we would see the cart girl before hole 15 and she had more than just 1 tuna sandwich. Especially since the course does not go past the clubhouse and they don’t use the snack stand at Hole 10.
Best round of golf
Shot my best round of golf. Tukwet is by far one of the best if not the best course in the inland valley. Creative holes with different looks, greens & fairways lush, it's challenging and naturally beautiful. Can't wait to play again soon.
Great Experience and Supurb Value !!
Tukwet, Legends course, was in great condition!
The fairways were green, the greens were great, running about 9-10 on the STIMP.
Pace of play was outstanding!!
Played with a fellow single, 18 holes in just under 3 hours!!
Of course we started at 1:00, maybe that had something to do with it??
They redid the golf shop and restaurant, looks really nice.
Staff was friendly and very accommodating!
Great value and experience at ANY price!!
I got this great rate because of a Golfnow promotion, don't expect to pay this price.
So my summation is, Go Play this course!!
All ways good.
Another fun round, we always try and play Legions side as the back nine is 3 or 4 shots easier then the Champions back nine for our short hitters game. Wind not to bad this time as we played after 12 and wind can be a challenge in the after noon....only one down thing is all the new housing going in is taking away the quite round out in nature we enjoyed for years here....
Firm, fast greens
Greens were very challenging. Very fast. Hard to get balls to hold on the greens. Putting was difficult.
Jim in the Pro Shop was great.
Myra was an excellent waitress.
Better than average
I enjoyed my round here. Fairway and rough were in good condition. Bunker were inconsistent - some good and some hard. Greens weren't very fast but were extremely hard and the entire foursome were bouncing approach shots over the green. Round was $42 when I checked on Friday night but dropped to $29 on Sat morning since this tee time was now a single!!
Lady Pro Event !?
I hate to be picky BUT it would have been Nice to know that there was a lady pro golf event going on that closed the Champions course on this day ! As a result, golfers were PACKED on the Legend's course and tempers were short as a weekday 5 1/2 hour golf round is not much fun !
