There are three 18-hole courses available at Jekyll Island Golf Club, making it the largest public golf facility in Georgia. The Oleander Course is the club's original layout and still remains the most difficult. It is the local favorite of the three courses as well. Don't be fooled by its seemingly modest yardage, there are plenty of challenges in store. The course features tight-, tree-lined fairways and an abundance of water in play throughout. The layout doesn't seem too tough from the fairways but you'll find keeping your ball in the short grass to be no easy feat and the ability to shape shots will definitely come in handy. The Oleander's 12th hole is the longest and one of the trickiest. This par 4 is completely exposed to blustery winds coming off the ocean and there is also quite a bit of water with which to contend.

Wet w/ 0% chance of rain
We played Oleander and Pine Lakes yesterday. Was surprised to hear the cart staff mention one of the courses they just started allowing 90 degree rule that day, but when we started playing we understood. Not one tee box or fairway, much less rough, has been cut in several days. grass was covered 3/4 of the ball in the middle of the fairway. The worst part to me was when I called in about a week before making our tee times the staff mentioned how great of shape the courses were in. But the most confusing part is I live about 30 mins south of the course and we haven't had hardly any rain lately, so I got home and looked it up...1.35 inches on the last 30 days.
Terrible
Fairway grass is as tall as my grass in my yard. Would not recommend this course to anyone.
Christmas Golf
Great Course!!!! I have played it a few times but considering the weather it was in great shape. Early fog delayed a little but that is not the courses fault. Great time playing with family.
Thanksgiving golf
Good course and well maintained. Staff was friendly and it all made for a good morning of golf.
Review of Indian Mound- nice course
The pro sent me to Indian Mound instead of Oleander. I enjoyed the layout- didn't see any Indian Mounds but lots of deer. At 6450 yards from the back tees it played longer than the card as the fairways did not have much roll. The grass appeared to be old school Bermuda. Decent variety of holes and plenty of room to hit off the tee. The course is surrounded by nature and reflects well on the tidewater experience. I enjoyed my late afternoon round and played 18 holes in under 2 hours.
Great natural setting wit no homes
Pine Lakes and Indian Mound at Jekyll Island well kept from tee to green. Great value. A must play along the Georgia coast.
oleander
Oleander is a nice old time course. No houses within the confines of the golf course.Greens a bit tatchy and needed to b. Verticut. Delightful layout. Sand traps could use new sand but again a fun golf experience.
Do Not Play
We booked thru Golfnow for the Oleander course 3 days in advance. When we checked in we were told in the pro shop that we would be playing Pine Lakes. Got to hole #2 and there were temporary greens for the par 3 at 50 yards. The pro shop nor the starter told us about the temporary green at #2. We called golfnow on hole #3 and all they could do was refund our booking fee which was very nice of them. The greens were in very bad condition. We only played 9 holes and left. We were told by the pro shop that they could give us a rain check but since we were on vacation and not coming back that did not work for us. No apology from anyone. Do not play or at least confirm ahead of time that you are playing the course you booked for. Pace of play was good because not many were playing the course probably for good reason.
Course Not like the other review claimed
This is a municipal course on a beautiful island. Greens were horrible, they had been air-raided awhile back and they never recovered. Many bald and ground under repair spots on the bumpiest greens ever. The greens are unplayable if you're a real golfer. Fairways being mowed with tons of cuttings left in the fairways. If your looking for a well manicured course this is not for you. It is convenient and inexpensive.
Family reunion golf outing
Very friendly staff; course is in good condition for being a state run course.
Desperate need for a starter
The course was very nice but it desperately needs a starter.
The course was packed with twosomes which makes it difficult for a foursome to play because you are constantly having to let twosomes play through. We would let one twosome play through and before we could finish the hole another twosome would be right on our heels. Most courses team up twosomes together to even out the pace of play but the fact that this course dido not have a starter meant that the course was full of them.
Not what was expected
Greens were in terrible shape
Course is not in a very well kept manner
Course has great potential needs some TLC
Always enjoy playing Jekyll
Always enjoy playing the Jekyll Island courses. Oleander is one of my favorites. Greens were not in good shape this time though. Very rough and bumpy. I truly understand the frustration of the tour pro's at Chambers Bay. Had a 72 round going but balls would not stay on line, bounced all over the place.
Oleander
Played 27 on Oleander. Probably the most scenic of the 63 holes on Jekyll Island Great deal on an early morning tee time. Very peaceful.
Resort Course
The course is excellent resort golfing. It has holes that are both tight and open. Ball placement is key. The Par 3s are distant. You have 3 that requires a shot over water. The wildlife are not bothered by golfers.
wind swept
The course was challenging because of the wind and soft fairways .
Great golf
Loved the course! Not only was it good golf, but the course is laid out for golf, not selling real estate. No houses or condos lining the fairways, no back on forth fairways. Just one beautiful hole followed by another.
Being able to walk, not being forced to ride a cart was an added bonus.
enjoyable
very playable and fair course.bunker placement made the approach shot a challenge.
Best of Jekyll
The most challenging of the 3 courses. Scenery is special. Because of the recent cold course is a bit thin but still very playable. It is the wettest of the 3 so many time cart usage is restricted. If there has been rain plan on playing another course.Enjoy
Run down. How sad :(
I remember playing Oleander years ago. I remembered it as a great track that was well maintained and a very good value. Today, however, the fairways are poor with little grass and lots of dead bare soils. The greens are slow, bumpy, and mostly half covered with green sand.
It makes me sad to see such a wonderful course so far behind.
If you chose to play Jeckyl, make sure it's either Pine Lakes or Indian Mounds. They need to close "Oleander" until they decide to bring it back to life. Currently, it's so dead it's decaying.... :(
