There are three 18-hole courses available at Jekyll Island Golf Club, making it the largest public golf facility in Georgia. The Oleander Course is the club's original layout and still remains the most difficult. It is the local favorite of the three courses as well. Don't be fooled by its seemingly modest yardage, there are plenty of challenges in store. The course features tight-, tree-lined fairways and an abundance of water in play throughout. The layout doesn't seem too tough from the fairways but you'll find keeping your ball in the short grass to be no easy feat and the ability to shape shots will definitely come in handy. The Oleander's 12th hole is the longest and one of the trickiest. This par 4 is completely exposed to blustery winds coming off the ocean and there is also quite a bit of water with which to contend.

Fun with lots of interest!
Keeps you attention, you'll want to keep it in the fairway, it's very fair if you do. Couple of long par fours , I will go back!
Great value
We took the first tee time which is discounted to $22. We played as a twosome in 3 hours. The course was a little wet because of a heavy dew.
We plan to play again this vacation.
Oleander golf course Jekyll Island
The course was in great shape , greens excellent, pace of play 2hours 45 min.
Nice layout
Beautiful course but slow due to number of walkers out the day we played. Would play again. Good value.
a great afternoon
we very much enjoyed our round at oleander. We played as a twosome and finished our round in a record 3 and a half hours. Great time.We recommend it.
Delightful day
Nothing to not like about this course/facility. Very relaxed atmosphere. Friendly staff. Course interesting and in good shape save for one gnarly green and some bare spots. Driving range and putting greens also in good condition especially for a very busy place. Can't wait to play the other two courses at same locale. Be back soon!
Good options
When on Jeykll Island you have three 18 hole courses to pick from. All a very good courses. At this time of year bring lots of bug spray. There was a junior tournament taking up 2 of the courses so the other was packed and slow. Playing during the week is always faster.
Last of the three
Oleander was in the poorest condition of the three courses. But still worth playing. Pine Lakes is in the best condition with even the fairways being over seeded. Indian Mounds had the greens and aprons over seeded. Indian Mounds had the most water. All in all, any of the three are good courses to play. Gators and deer add to the enjoyment. Play can be slow at times because of so many high school and college tournaments. Played in March, bermuda grass hadn't started growing yet. Staff very nice.
Wet but OK
It had poured the day before and with cart-path only the course was still playable. I was the first one out but ran into two groups on the back 9.
course needs to be closed
This course is in terrible shape. The fairways are thin and it always is wet. Expect Carts On Path only any time you play. The greens were ok but not good. This course needs to be closed and worked on for about a year. It is too bad because the layout is very good. It just needs an incredible amount of work in drainage and fairway reseeding. They continue to push people on the course which is just making it worse. Again with the right amount of work this could be a very good course.
Cart Path Only
Cart Path only, even though the weather was in 70's for 2 days. Fairways and Greens in poor condition. If I had paid 45.00, plus island toll booth $6.00 to play without golfnow discount I would have been furious. Will not be going back.
Disappointment on the "turn"
First of all, Oleander is a very nice track. It has large, well bunkered greens and quite a few narrow fairways. As has been the unfortunate condition for many years, a few of the fairways are littered with worm castings. They don't interfere much with play but do make walking over them a bit muddy. Not a deal breaker though.
The only disappointing aspect of our round here was the situation on the tenth tee. Even though we had a reserved time (through GolfNow of course) and played, as we should, the front nine first we came across several groups of players who were obviously given permission to start there. I do understand how these large groups are catered to considering the money they spend on the course and at the Grill. It was most evident that a "good time" was had at the bar by the raucous and loud shouts that were coming from the first and tenth tees. On the other hand, I do personally feel that those who have played the front nine in good faith would be given priority over others who wish to start on number 10. I personally felt it was disrespectful to us to even be faced with this situation.
The starter for this course was very apologetic and offered to get us out on one of the nines "across the road". We chose to do this, as we didn't wish to follow the boisterous, and very, very "fun loving groups...if you know what I mean" ahead on number 10. As a result, we did get to play without any wait whatsoever on one of the nines of Pine Lakes and enjoyed it very much. Too bad though, that we didn't get to play Oleander's final nine holes though. There are some really terrific golf holes there.
I do hope any of you who play on Oleander get to play all of the 18 holes someday. Well worth it for sure. Today was much more of an exception than a rule I think.
Hopefully, the big groups who were so favoured today, will be gone before you get to play at this really nice course.
Jekyll Golf - ALL good
Although the managment and pro shop has changed the golf courses have not. If not for the friendliness of Lou the starter and Bob the cart guy, it would be just another day out. These two guys make coming to Jekyll Island a real fun trip. Be sure to look them up and say hi. Be sure to smile because they do.
Excellent course value; nice layout
Well maintained course; excellent staff; great grill/food; beautiful setup.
Great coastal golf
Played Oleander, some fairways were thin but otherwise in good shape.
plush fairways,greens true
played this course five times this year and this was the best condition i've played it.
Challenging and Fun!
The course will test your patience on one hole and then have you pulling out your camera on the next. Lots of fun. A definite challenge. When I played it was a little soggy but no matter. The one and only thing I was disappointed with was the lack of a beverage / snack cart on a weekend.
GORGEOUS COURSE
WILL PLAY AGAIN. EVERYONE WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND ONE OF THE MOST SCENIC COURSES I HAVE PLAY.
Beautiful Setting, Fun Course
A wonderful afternoon on a open player friendly course. There were 2 to 5 deer enjoying the fairway on almost every hole. Course is a great value in a beautiful quiet setting.
Oleander Course--Jekyll Island
Oleander has more challenge than I was expecting, having played Indian Mound a couple of days before. Course conditions were as good as one could want, with smooth greens and lush fairways. Remember, you're about 10 feet above sea level, so here are some things to look out for if you're not used to it: 1) Not a whole lot of bounce and roll on your shots; 2) Needing to club up and MOVE UP. The course is not punishingly long, but don't feel like you have to play from the blues. Really. Don't. And don't be surprised to find that you might have to go up TWO clubs rather than one; and 3) The unavoidability of some marshy lies. They do a pretty good job overall, but something should be done about the tee box on #9.
Also, on the day I was there, our group got backed up on the back 9 because they were working a shotgun start or some kind of tournament into us. This added about a half hour or more to our pace of play and was frustrating. You might want to check with the course staff before you set your tee time, or at least before you tee off, and see if you should expect a similar experience. One gets the sense that group bookings and course regulars get preferential treatment. You'll either get lucky and avoid them, or you'll deal with it as a one-time annoyance.
