The course was no where worth the cost. Greens were hard as concrete. Lots of washed out areas. Rough was not looked after.Grounds crew were busy digging and getting in the way. No range. Should have been a significant discount. We will not be back!
Good experience, Riley kept it from being great
First and foremost, this is a gorgeous course with a fantastic layout. First issue, THE RANGE IS CLOSED, its been closed for months and WILL NOT BE OPEN UNTIL SEPTMEBER!!!! We didn't see this posted anywhere until we showed up (no compensation). The pace started off slow but as the tournament ahead of us finished, things picked up a bit. We tee'd off at shortly after 1:30 - knowing that it would likely be close to finishing but with greenfees $160 per person, I still remained hopeful. My two partners tee'd off on 18 and as I was about to take my backswing when the marshall (starter) started telling us quite firmly - "The course is closed, get off the course". I've included a photo of the last tee.. there was absolutely no issues with visibility. I'd expect them to be a bit more lenient with this due to the fact that the pace was slow to start the round, no range and no issues with visibility. This final interaction with Riley left us with a bad taste in our mouths. Sounded like there was a football game he wanted to catch... In a nutshell, the course and views are incredible, the service left a lot to be desired.
Steve K review of our golf outing at PGA West Mountain course.
Staff treated us like 2nd class golfers due to our twilight golf rate.
Excellent Challenge
Driving range was closed and they had a few wet/soggy areas around the course due to heavy rains a few days before. I would definitely like to play this course again but I wouldn’t pay the standard rate of approximately $250 per round.
Terrible greens.
Greens hard as rock. Made the experience of a "highly rated" course very unenjoyable.
greens
rock hard greens, almost all balls that hit on went over
Great Day, Course Recovering
Our foursome played the course on Jan 31st and had a great time. We were not able to finish 18 holes as our tee time was at 1:50 and there were some slow groups ahead, but that is not the courses fault. The course is recovering from water damage from around Christmas time last year. All of the greens have been replaced and are coming in nicely, but there are areas of the course that were under water for some time that are still struggling to come back. The driving range is not open due to the water damage as well so that was disappointing having no way to warm up before staring your round. At this time, they thought it might be another week or two before it opens unless they get more rain, and then it might be quite some time before it opens up.
The off course amenities are ok, but nothing worth writing home about. Lots of good merch in the pro shop. It would be nice to have ball washer on the cart, and gps/range finders could speed up play.
Will play again when the course is completely healthy.
Course greens condition was very poor.
The greens were very poor with no holding them even from the fairway. Remarkably slow and bumpy. Many areas were recently underwater along the fairways, which was very surprising.
Nice layout but greens are a bit rough
Enjoyed the round even though the greens were a bit bumpy and had recently been sanded.
Hugely disappointing
I was really excited to play here but with the driving range closed and the front nine playing like a bad muni my enthusiasm was dulled. The back 9 was beautiful but overall the experience was not good.
Breathtaking
This is the course you want to play when you come to Palm Springs. It is cut right out of the mountain and each hole more magnificent than the last! The course is tough, but if you play your shots to the right spots, you can score out here. If you only have one round, don't worry about the cost and play this course.
The Mountain Course has seen better days for sure!
One of my favorite courses from coast to coast, however Mother Nature had not been nice to the Valley the past week. Multiple holes had been affected by the deluge of rain. After 17 years of playing PGA West, this is probably the worst I have seen it.
That being said sadly it was also probably one of the most unfriendly visits to the Mountain Course as well. The new management/owner may not have the same customer service mentality that I have always affiliated with the entire PGA West group of courses and staff. I guess times have changed and it is starting to show…..perhaps not always in a good way. #bummer #lossofagoodthing #didn’tseemspecial
When you find a gem like PGA West and have visited it many times over the past 17 years, it brings a frown to my face knowing it no longer seems to be that special place it once was.
However, will I play the course again? Yes. Do I feel it needs to polish a few rough areas to bring the sparkle back to that what it used to be….. A DEFINITE YES. But I have hopes they will soon.
Absolutely stunning!
Beautiful course. Stunning views. Get your camera ready for hole 16. Recent flooding had it not in the best of shape but if your on the fairway you are golden.
Great golf and stunning views
Excellent resort golf course not too long but challenging to play. Course condition have been good from tee to green. Only little negative was the practice which was closed because of flooding earlier in the month.
Avoid this course
This is a pga west course. So it should be top level. It was not. The two women working the pro shop were rude. The driving range was closed, no gps on carts and the course had damage from recent flood and was unplayable on front nine. It smelled like sewage and on some holes you couldnt retrieve your ball due to mud and flooding. The front nine should be closed. The starter was rude and unfriendly. Avoid course no matter the deal and golf now should not have this course as an option currently
