Westin Rancho Mirage Golf Resort & Spa - Pete Dye Resort Course

Some holes were in great shape and others were not as they were being changed/repaired (sod pieces laid down recently). At clubhouse, not allowed to sit and order food, required to buy boxed lunch and sit outside restaurant to eat it. Very strange way to treat guests.

We were looking forward to our final round in Palm Desert for this year and thought a Pete Dye design would be great. We were playing with my sister and brother in law.

There is a shuttle from the parking lot to the pro shop area. The shuttle driver was a delightful lady and we were looking forward to the tee time.

We had a 1:00 pm tee time and should be able to finish well before sunset at 5:30.

The carts provided are past their best before day. The gals had one cart and the guys the other one. The guys cart (mine) broke down on the 14th hole tee box at 4:25, I immediately called the pro shop to alert them only to find out after a lengthy message that they close at 4:00. I tried calling the director of golf, the shuttle service, hotel concierge and leave messages with my telephone number. The only person I was able to reach was hotel reservations and was told to walk in.

Finnaly was able to coax the cart to move at walking speed. When I called the course the next day as no one ever called to apologize I was offered after much discussion 2 rounds for the 4 of us as compensation.

If anything should happen to you after 4:00 on the course, I guess calling 911 is your best option.

It was disappointing that the 9 hole was under repair. Also I had higher expectations for the course conditions.

Over all a good round.

Course shape is okay, one hole is out due to bunker repair, so you only get 17 holes.

The course is showing age and could use more care, it was once terrific. Though efforts are ongoing for improvements, as having 5th hole closed for bunker upgrades, general conditions are average. We did get a reduced green fee, since the 5th was not playable. My recommendation is price dependent.

I have played this course 4 or 5 times in past few years It had always been in top condition, but this year, I and group I played with very disappointed in course condition. Also, driving range was closed for an upcoming event. The staff was very courteous and the price I paid to play made disappointment in condition less bothersome

We always enjoy the layout in the fabulous staff at this facility. However, the condition of the course is tragic. Doesn’t matter what they charge you. It’s not worth it. Won’t be back for a real long time.

The course was not in very good shape. The driving range was not open. Hole # 16 was not open. Several of the fairway bunkers seemed to be in the middle of repair.

I went early to use the practice range and found it was closed since they were setting it up for a guest event in the evening. I then learned from the starter, who like the front desk person was very friendly, that one hole was closed since the bunkers were being redone. The course's website made no mention of these issues.

The fairways were not in good shape. One of the players I was playing with told me that he had played here the previous year and found the fairways no better. With so many choices in this area, I will not be returning to this course.

Wish I would have read reviews before playing. Got there early to warm up, driving range was shut down to setup for event that night... One hole was closed due to work, neither was mentioned as I was checking in at the pro shop, still charge full rates. Staff was less than friendly. Course was in horrible shape, nearly all the bunkers where in the middle of rebuild, the rest needed to be rebuilt. Turf around the greens was more dirt than grass. Greens were top dressed with some kind of granular and not smooth. Don't play it!!!

The Westin Rancho Mirage Pete Dye course is my favourite golf course in the Palm Springs area (out of 11 courses played thus far). The Pete Dye layout is both challenging and playable, and slightly tamer than most Pete Dye courses. The fairways were well maintained, the features (sand traps, water features, etc) were in great shape, and the greens were in excellent condition (slightly firm but absolutely playable). Also, most of the holes had great views of the surrounding Rancho Mirage area!

On the downside, the tee boxes and rough areas were quite patchy, and one hole was out of commission due to reconstruction (after the recent rain storms).

Overall, a great course worthy of most golfers … slightly more than challenging, and certainly enjoyable!

Terrible conditions compounded by many bunkers under construction, even many of

the ones recently done did not have the

sand properly conditioned for play.

Greens were decent, everything else 4/5

out of 10 at best.

Many bunkers being redone, but they need it. Greens are rolling great. Rest of course conditions are below average.

Fairways were in awful shape. Hole 5 was closed. Many bunkers were washed out.
