This Pete Dye design earns consistent praise for its beautifully challenging layout featuring narrow fairways, strategic sand traps, and stunning scenery. Friendly and engaged staff, well-kept practice facilities, and strong overall value make it a course worth returning to.

Poor condition

The staff was great, the course is a typical challenging Pete Dye layout and the greens were very good; however, the 2nd hole was closed and the par 5 4th hole was changed to be two makeshift par 3s to make up for the lost hole. Overall the conditioning of the fairways was poor and we elected to play lift, clean and place to find a good lie from which to hit. Would not recommend it now.

Course was in TERRIBLE Condition

Course was in terrible condition. One hole was close for bunker repair and a "temporary" (if you can call a flag in the middle of a terrible fairway a hole). Fairways were bare spots as if there was no overseeding and this was the entire course. I would be embarrassed if I were the Westin to have a course is such poor shape. Based on the shape barely worth $50 to play let alone $129. Will NEVER play there again.

Terrible condition.

It appears they did not over seed the course. The fairways are not in the usual condition. Lots of weeds and lots of bare spots. They should be embarrassed to charge $125 to play the course in its present condition

Marginal conditions

Greens were good.

Fairways poor.

Hole 2 out of play, and hole 4 changed to 2 par 3s. One with a green in the fairway of zero value.

Course has seen better times

When checking in we were told that the first hole is closed for re-doing the bunkers and the second hole is split in 2 ridiculous par 3s! The fairways were not in great shape with lots of brown patches. Tees and greens were ok. I have played the course multiple times and this time the course was far below its usual standard.

Not in good condition.

Played here on golf now discount but still paid almost 150 for a late morning time. Fairways were in terrible shape with more dead areas than live grass. Rough was not over seeded and was brown straw. Greens were quite nice. Pace of play was good for public course at just under 4 hours. Overpriced for conditions even with discount. Nice staff.

First hole closed

Wasn't notified when booking that the first hole was closed to redo bunkers as part of a larger project. Verify that all 19 holes are open before you pay full price. I've played there many times, and the fairways are in the worst shape I've ever seen. Wasn't met by anyone at the bag drop and my 84 yo dad had to carry his bag a considerable distance to check in. I work in the golf business and the experience was very poor.

Very disappointing and misleading

After pre-paying for the round, and placing a call the morning of to inquire about course conditions (in which I was told, "they are very good), much to our surprise when we arrived and checked in with the starter, we were told that we would be teeing off on #10 and that hole #1 was "closed due to maintenance," so the 2nd hole was cut in half and would play as two par 3s. I was dumbfounded. Not a word shared in advance. And to top it off, the fairways were patchy, at best; clearly whatever overseeding was done in the fall was long gone. Knowing the history of the course and it being a Pete Dye design, we were excited to play. But such a disappointing experience.

Not in very good shape.

Large dead spots on fairways. Carts in bad shape

Pace of play was over an hour longer than last time we played. As a result we were not able to finish. No player assistants seen all day and People cut in front of us which resulted in three groups on tee box at third hole. Obvious Westin not paying much attention to the golf course as it looks worn out and lacking maintenance. Greens were in good shape and ran true which was the one positive.

Such a disappointment!

We just finished five days of golf at five highly rated courses including this Pete Dye course. We were really looking forward to playing this course having heard many good things. First of all - you can tell the course design was spectacular and challenging. Very well done by Pete. Second, it was so sad and disgraceful to see the absolute poor condition they have let this course become. That coupled with the odd and lacking customer service, they should just fire the entire management and greens keeping staff and start over. Fairways were worse than the lowest public courses I’ve played. Bunkers often didn’t even have rakes because they were compact rock with irrigation puddles in it. Greens were “ok” but very slow. Weeds and spotted grass on rock hard fairways everywhere. It was honestly so sad.

Also they started everyone on 10 for some reason. Hole 1 was under repair so they put a flag and hole in the middle of #2 fairway (not cut like a green) and told everyone to play as if the #2 par 4 was two par 3s….. (we just played the normal four and double our score for 1).

The nicest people were the ones who drove you to and from the parking lot - they were great. Club house was lacking in many many ways. And then they line up all the carts with your tee off time and ask you to sit in your cart and wait for your time as you get close. Then when it is your time they put the key in the cart and tell you to go (as if they don’t trust you having a key).

Half way through a different starter accosted us for playing slow - everyone in the group was shocked at his behavior. I tried to explain that we’ve been waiting on the group in front of us he didn’t believe us as he didn’t see anyone (turns out they went to the snack bar and he later apologized). But that treatment on top of a disappointing course experience really just topped off the day.

Again it’s just disappointing as this was our last round and the one we were looking forward to. I’d recommend playing other Pete Dye courses where management actually cares about the quality of experience. Don’t waste your time here.

Poor Conditions

Greens were excellent. Rest of the course (fairways, rough ) were sparse and dry mud. Some traps under construction.

Very nice layout. Too bad they screwed up the overseeding

No more a premium course in the Coachella Valley

I have seen the Pete Dye course in much better condition than this time. Fairways were in poor condition which made us play preferred lies. Greens and tees were ok. Last but not least we were told that holes 1 and 2 were closed for rearranging the bunkers, work which I do not understand why it is done at the beginning of the high season.
