Seascape Golf Club
About
Originally Rio Del Mar Country Club, Seascape Golf Club is a classic 18-hole layout perched on the coast highlands of the Monterey Peninsula. Opened in 1926, the course was actually shut down during World War II when it served as a “victory garden” to help grow crops for the nation's war effort. After the war it came back with its new name, but old charm. The golf course is just a half mile from the Pacific Ocean, but it's largely protected by Monterey pines and eucalyptus trees that surround it. Seascape Golf Club features well maintained fairways, strategically placed bunkers and small, tricky greens.

Golf with my lovely Bride! Photo submitted by u849946994 on 03/22/2017
This course is a steal
It cost $19 to play twilight on Sunday afternoon. The course was in fantastic shape. The greens were slick, fairways tight, layout tricky and just overall a beautiful golf course. I haven't found a better bang for the buck.
Fun
Fun day very nice golf course had an awesome time. I will definitely go back.
Course is in great condition
I have nothing bad to say about the course or the staff. Greens were in perfect condition. Although the pace of play was horrible and it was a Tuesday afternoon. I tee-d off at 12:20p and walked off the course at 5:29p.
Very beautiful old course
Beautiful course however green is not as good as it should be. My golf ball got kicked out of its line many times for long putting.
Too slow
It took almost 6 hours... We had to wait 5-10 mins every tee box...
Beautiful course, very senic.
The course was wet when I played it. Ball didn't carry very far so holes played longer than posted. They were aerating 1/2 the greens, which was good. They were doing it while I played, which was bad. a lot of commotion going on while a played a stretch of 4-5 holes.
Anyway It is good!
perfect, fairwer is not wide, the gree is not big,l Iike it。
Challenges
I'm not the greatest of players but I get around a course easily. I like the
challenge the layout presents. There are enough obstacles to make management a must. I also like the practice areas you have set up.
Great place (slow play).
Overall nice place. But on weekends five players should have to ride not walk !!! Five hour round not cool ... Three groups of five in front of us all walking..
Narrow your focus
Greens are in great shape, somewhat fast, and many are steeply sloped. Choosing the right approach shot would be essential to a low score.
Many fairways are narrow and those that aren't are either sloped to one side or steeply rolling.
All in all a fairly good challenge and a pretty venue.
Great option in Santa Cruz County
There are so few decent options in Santa Cruz County. DeLa and Seascape. That's about it. Pasatiempo's too expensive to play regularly. So I guess that's the best thing Seascape has going for it (scarcity).
It's a nice course. There are a handful of really interesting holes. There's some great elevation change tee shots. You will need to work the ball both ways off the tee to put it where it needs to be. Some fun golf shots to hit. But the course is outdated and could really benefit from being reworked. But that's not gonna happen.
American Golf runs an efficient operation, and keeps the course in decent shape, but nothing special. If you're a Santa Cruz County golfer, and you want top-flight public courses, you're driving to Monterey or San Juan or Morgan Hill/Gilroy. It's too bad. I think Seascape has the potential to be much more than it is.
Anyway... maybe this is why I moved to Monterey. But I still love ya Seascape!
Fun Couse
This course is a lot of fun lots of hills and valleys, some ocean views and nice weather. They had great Taylor Made rental clubs for my buddy at a reasonable rate. The course is really great for the money. Everything is in good repair even though it is an older course.
This course has very challanging greens
Recently played Seascape and we all had a very enjoyable day. We played from the tips and although the overall yardage is not long, the course can play more difficult than one would think. Due to heavy air (due to the ocean influence) and some subtle and not so subtle fairway undulations one has to be mindful to hit enough club or you can find your approach shots short of the greens all to often. The overall condition was good, but some of the tee boxes would benefit from some additional attention. Lastly what makes play more difficult than one might expect are the greens. Overall the greens are soft, and except approach shots quite well. One can spin the ball and fire at the pin. But because of some severe slopes and pin placements you can find yourself three or four putting at the blink of an eye. Overall a great outing, within a comfortable atmosphere makes an argument for a return trip.
Great day!
Course was in great shape. Play the day before thanksgiving was just over 4hrs. Best of all welcoming pro shop staff, friendly and helpful. Was a great day.
beautiful but slow, slow slow............
Pace would be fine if not for the fact that anyone who wants to play 9 holes is started on back 9. After lovely pace on the front you are met with long waits as it is completely jammed up on the back.
Very disappointing! Quit after 14 holes.
Great course, fun & challenging.
Good variety of fairways/greens, well maintained, beautiful settings, a pleasure to play there.
Ask about green conditions before booking
Wish I knew they had aerated, before I booked. Course is in nice shape, until you get to the greens. They are still somewhat sandy and still have very noticeable punch marks.
Beautiful course in Aptos
First time playing here. I really like the layout of this course. Greens were in great shape. I like all the varied terrain. A couple very hard par 3's, one was over 200 yards. I went on a beautiful Oct day so, it was especially good.
An old course in a great location.
Greens were very fast, but true. Fairways were very nice, but the "Kirby" yardage markers were very difficult to find, when we could even find one. No starter when I played on 10/15/13. No beverage cart either. If the course was better maintained it would be one of the best as it is well laid out. In summary, however, I like playing the course.
Seascape is the best golf in the Santa Cruz area
This is our favorite course in the Santa Cruz area. The course is beautiful. The greens are well-maintained but challenging. The only thing that would be negative is the small size of the driving range. Golf carts are awesome. One can walk the course if desired.
