Hidden Gem
The North Course plays tighter and longer than the South Course. The course was in excellent condition; fairways and greens. I was able to get off early as they were not too busy at 8:45 am on a Saturday. Caught up with a couple of slower groups and the marshal encouraged us to play around those groups as we made the turn and move on to the 11th hole. That same marshal met us on 18 and got us on to the 10th right away so that we could make it up.
Enjoyable Golf Course. Great Views, Architecture and History Too!
Nice course. Good value. Enjoyable round of golf for couples. Plays to various skill levels. Interesting views, architecture and history to compliment the round of golf. Will be a regular stop for us every winter. Overall condition of course was good with speedy large greens. Friendly staff.
Palm Sprongs gem
Played this course for the first time today. It received great reviews before, and I can see why. It is tucked up against a mountain and yet is relatively flat. Water truly comes into play only once, on 18. It has 3 dry Ponds however, but they are easy to avoid. Recommend it highly.
fast greens
Greens were quick and rolled true. Tricky pins today.
Great course. Will return for sure
Second time playing here this week
Fun course with enough length, wide fairways and large greens with good speed.
Again was joined by 3 people from Orange County.
Pleasure to play with a group who just enjoyed the game and being in the sun.
Nothing flashy but good to play.
Good location just off 111b in Palm Springs.
Enjoyed an early morning round
Very enjoyable round, played at a good pace never held up by the group ahead. Course was in good shape and weather was perfect, like normal for Palm Springs. Starter was flexible and paired me up with a single from Seattle, enjoyed the round and the company.
Great old traditional gem
Greens were outstanding, nice course layout, challenging Par 3’s and pace of play was good!
A day in the sun
Great golf weather. Course in great shape greens in good condition, fast and a bit tricky. Pace of play was good for a public course. Always waited at tee box, but not long. 4.5 hr round. If only everyone played ready golf! Hah. Never happen....... sand traps were in excellent shape and sand was nice and fluffy.
Rise and Grind
First one in the parking lot, still dark out and I was met by the back shop attendant in a cart to grab my clubs and take me to the proshop. I had booked the second time of the day but I was a single. The first time booked was a foursome, but nobody was there yet. I was keen that they might allow me out but it would be up to the starter. Practice putting green was open so I went there to warm up. About 20 minutes before 7, the starter came over and told me that I was going to tee off in front of the foursome and to be ready in about 7 minutes! Can't tell you how much I enjoy being the first one out on the course! Flew around the classic layout, finishing right on 2 hours. I popped into the shop to get change and the same fellow that greeted me earlier in the parking lot had my clubs cleaned and was waiting to take me back out to my vehicle. During my round, I had interactions with 4 of the grounds crew and everyone was pleasant and waved or nodded to me. My experience was excellent from start to finish. I was back to our Air BnB by 9:15, before the rest of my crew was finished coffee! Golf course was in excellent mid-winter form.
Bunkers need help
Played this course a few years ago, but thought it was in better shape this time around. They took out several ponds and replaced them with large waste areas. Bunkers need work, as they have very little sand in them. Greens were in good shape!
A blast from the past
We played Indian Canyons (North) while on vacation in the Palm Springs area. This is one of the original courses in the desert and used to be a hangout for the Rat Pack.
Overall, the course is nice. The conditions were good. There are some waste areas that used to be water hazards. The layout runs through houses so there is not a huge margin for error off the tee, but it is certainly not a "target style" layout like some desert courses.
What I liked best about the course were the houses bordering the fairways. They are all 60's vintage desert bungalow style and give a real insight to the original Palm Springs lifestyle.
The pro shop staff was friendly, although the "mid-century modern" clubhouse is mostly closed off. Getting food at the turn was different. You called the restaurant and they brought you the food on the course. We called on the 10th tee and didn't get our food until the middle of the 12th fairway.
Overall, this is a nice course to play to step back in time and get away from the Pete Dye and Ted Robinson designs so prevalent in the desert.
A great course in great shape
I have played this course and the sister South Course a few times over the years I have been coming to Palm Springs, but this last time was really outstanding!
I was playing with a buddy who has not spent much time down here, and I thought this one might be fun for him. The course is an old private club gone public, with huge history and an incredible display of mid century houses along the fairways. I thought it would be a good introduction into what Palm Springs really can be about.
We teed off a little early, as the course was empty. We were told that this week before the Christmas holiday was usually quiet, but that was an understatement. We played alone, and literally never saw anyone during our entire round. I know that is extremely unusual, but it was "our" course for the day. Other times I have played here, pace is usually not an issue. One other thing I like about this course is that it is tucked in the corner of PS against the mountain-and the wind doesn't seem to affect things quite as much. We had a perfectly calm day.
Conditions are better than I have ever seen them! The rough was a decent length, and the greens were absolutely perfect. There were not too fast or slow, and rolled perfectly. This course is Old School, and now that I'm over 65, next time I play here I will play off the gold tees, or the combo with the whites. The par 3s are challenging, well guarded and with somewhat small greens.
The staff is great-they were engaging and friendly.
My buddy's comment at the end of the round-
"Best day of golf-ever!"
What??? The Fountain Was Designed By Walt Disney??? 5 Stars
What could be better than a terrific and deceptively challenging old golf course nestled between some of the most beautiful mountains in the world and classic mid-century modern homes? Indian Canyon North is just one awesome little course. Imagine Frank Sinatra music softly playing in the background or more to the fact, cursing while playing a rowdy 18 with the rest of the rat pack.
At first glance, this course looks defenseless against the modern game. That notion goes out the window by the second hole when you realize that trees and doglegs are strategically placed to foil the modern game. You gotta pick your shots, pick your clubs carefully, aim perfectly, and execute your shot. If you hit a 7 iron say 120, you might find yourself hitting a wedge simply to accommodate pin placements and green conditions. I found the course challenging and one I will play for a long time to come.
The Desert Best
The view the staff and of course the course itself, fantastic
perfect, but plays long.
staff was extremely friendly. course was perfect. lush fairways, excellent greens and perfect bunkers. don't be fooled by the scorecard, it plays quite a bit longer. we had a great day.
Gem of Palm Springs
This is a great example of old school Palm Springs Golf. Great staff!
