Unimpressed
Considering that this course is not normally inexpensive, I was really expecting a lot more. I know that weather has something to do with the condition of the course, it was shoddy at best. The greens were poor, the bunkers mini ponds. Unless I can play this course for 20 or less, I would never go again. I have heard so many good things about this course, but really don't know why. My partner had the same reaction.
Greens In Terrible Shape Right Now
If you like your greens to roll true, DO NOT play this course anytime soon. They are in BAD shape. They added a bunch of squares of grass to the greens, forcing you to take relief should you have to chip/putt through those areas. The rest of the course is in pretty good shape, but, to me, it's all about the condition of the greens. Also, the guy in the pro shop who takes your money ALWAYS gives me flack whenever I book this course through Golfnow. I booked as a single Friday night for a Saturday morning tee time for $25, and the guy asked the other employee there "who's authorizing these prices? this is normally a $49 tee time." He then half-jokingly said that I could walk for $25 or ride for $49. Obviously, I was able to ride for $25, but I don't appreciate feeling like the bad guy just because Golfnow offered cheaper tee times than he would've liked. Take it up with Golfnow, not the customer paying you their hard earned money. He did the same thing once before when I used a BOGO promo code and was able to play for less than $20. The guy's pretty stingy. Anyway, I usually like playing this course, but I wouldn't play here for a while until the greens improve. And if the guy at the pro shop keeps giving me flack every time I try to check-in, I'm going to start avoiding this course altogether (which is a shame).
Long course with rain drainage problems
Course should have been closed. Golf carts tearing up the fairways. Water drainage problems from excessive rain. Seems like they would rather have the fairways destroyed by carts to make a few bucks instead of closing until the water issue has passed.
Not Bad
Not too bad! Greens were a little rough on some holes. Lots of sand traps!! Fun course though. Had some golf cart issues. One cart got a flat, the other cart ran out of batteries athough did play late in the day. Will play again.
Typical low summer maintenance
Bad course for the rainy season. Greens were bumpy, splotchy and in need of repair. Heavy rains from the week caused marsh like conditions on the fairways.
Never again
what a waste of $50, no wonder why TPC took there name off this course. I am surprised it is still open. The fairways were completely muddy, cart path only, greens had some sort of disease and was covered with green dust to help them look green or get over what ever was affecting them. I paid for 18, but my buddy and I left and checked this place of the list to never play again. Avoid this track, to many nice places to play in south Florida
Enjoy this course while in South Florida
In the past this course hosted the Honda Classic so it has teeth. With all the recent rain the course played long. Some areas of the fairways were still soggy and while maintenance is attempting to keep the course mowed not all areas were/could be addressed. Also recently punched and sanded the greens did not roll well. But I'll give it a mulligan as it is one of my favorites in the area.
Not TPC quality course
Wow. This is so disappointing. I could not believe how bad of shape that this course was in when I played it this past Saturday. I get that it has been raining but I play every Saturday all summer so am familiar with what is rain versus not maintained. This place is literally a weed pasture now. It does not appear they are maintaining the course at all. It was a red flag when they place was not packed for early Saturday morning tee times. No one was behind us and we were playing at 7am. I really used to love this course with all the bunkers it was different than a lot of courses so was fun to play occasionally. I am it sure if there is new Managment but I will not be back here unless there is a total redo of the Course. Oh, and the rates are still at a quality course price.
Dog track
To think the honda classic was once played here is mind boggling. The greens are loaded with sand and the fairways are mud. Awful course take your $50 elsewhere.
Golfer
The course is in horrible conditions. The greens has holes and patches without grass. The fairways are worse. I don't think this course should be open anymore. Its not worth it even 20 dollars. I have played in the past. I will never play again
Superintendent ruined a solid course
We have gotten a lot of rain lately (no surprise here is south Florida). The course was soaked, again expected, but the superintendent decided to now the fairways with 1/2 ton mowers, stupid. They tore up all of the fairways and let ruts everywhere and then the clubhouse did not tell anyone when they arrived nor did they offer a discount to play the worst course conditions I have ever seen.
A Disappointment
The weather conditions contributed to very poor playing conditions. The area had experienced a lot of rain over the previous week and the course was very wet (fairways, greens and cart paths). I not sure they should have opened the course based on the amount of moisture on the couse. The conditions of the greens was bad. I could not recommend this course. There are much better options in the area. Play another course.
I will never play here again
The only good thing about this course was the staff. I understand that it rained a lot this past week, but the course drainage was terrible, the paths were still flooded, there was dirt all over the sidewalks. The fairways and roughs were like wading through a swamp. That doesn't even explain the greens, which were covered in the sand that they give you to fill your divots. Putting on those surfaces were impossible.
I WILL NEVER PLAY AT HERON BAY AGAIN. That was the biggest waste of $49.00 for a round of golf.
DO NOT PLAY HERE
From the minute we arrived the bad experience began. There was no one at the bag drop to take our bags. Once the guy arrived he told me where I could put my clubs rather than taking them to the cart. The course was so wet that any professional golf course would not have even let us on the course. The restaurant staff was terrible and we waited ten minutes to even be acknowledged. Just a bad experience overall and I will not be going back.
Wide open and nobody around
I like I said wide-open course nobody around cheap rates great value
Monotonous
We'll maintained and nice but it feels like most of the holes are basically the same, after the 3rd hole, your only concern is where are the sand traps. Well kept but after a while, under the Florida sun, you wander why there is no more shade around.
Sand
This course has two defenses, sand and Florida wind. They keep the course in good condition, prices are very low off season in the summer and too high in season winter. If you have a sand game this is a fun course, if you don have a sand game, you may have one when you leave. You need to play the correct tees on this course or at least the correct shot off the tees you play, anything else will keep the sand in play all day. Very flat course, greens tend to be quicker than most courses in the area.
Good Shape and empty on Thursday morning
Heron Bay in good shape but the green played very slow. There was no one there on Thursday morning. This course can only use bunkers to defend the course so expect a good score.
Good Course
Course had begun aeration. Basic layout OK but too many green-side bunkers for amateurs.
