A Day at the Beach
Great course, fabulous course for the golf now price. Need to work on your sand game? They have around 99 bunkers that you can practice in, no joke. Overall great experience. Enjoy!
Good Course. Needs Sand.
I play this course almost once a week. Greens were excellent this week. Course is usually in pretty good shape. One complaint: the bunkers. Put some sand in them. It's like hitting out of dirt. I don't mind being in the sand, and if you PLAY the course, i.e. don't hit driver on every hole, you won't find yourself in many fairway bunkers at all, and will give yourself a good second shot into the green. At least around the greens, truck in some sand and make it worth while.
Great value great conditions
Played on a monday afternoon at 3pm. Took about 3hr 45min for 18 holes. Course was in great shape. Greens rolled very true. Great value for the money. Will be back often!
Interesting and challenging course
We teed off after two 2:30pm so time of play was a bit slow. But for the price we payed, can't complain. Course was in good condition. Greens were moderate speed (9 1/2 Stimp.) This course has a lot off fairway bunkers and not always easy to pick your target off the tee. Did enjoy the layout but not everyone enjoys that many bunkers. Depends on your handicap level. Lots of water along the fairways but not very much in play unless you're very wild. Would play there anytime.
Love it!
Loved playing here. Awesome course in awesome condition. It is hard thats for sure, but well worth it. I recommend it to all to go play. If you love the game, you will appreciate this course.
Pro Course - Greens protected by bunkers
Beautiful fairwarys and excellent, true-running greens, perfectly fast greens for the better player. About 1 million bunkers...you'll need your sand wedge with long carriers in to greens with most greens protected by bunkers.
Great course at great twilight price
Very nice fairways and greens with a lot of bunkers so it's challenging to play there. The course is packed during twilight hours. It also has a very nice practice facility. Will definitely play here a lot.
Almost 200 bunkers, which is this course's distinction, were just awful.
So many years now since this place was "TPC @ Heron Bay," and while we wish it to be, it is just not nearly the same.
Downsides:
- The driving range tee was a mishmash of rough and weeds, and divots were not sanded in....I could see the rolling moguls on the tee from the lack of attention. It could use a stripping and a resodding.
- The greens have shrank in size by 10-20%, which has taken many of the bunkers out of play on approach shots, as the pins cannot be tucked into the corners anymore.
-While we have had a rough, dry winter in S. Fla., the tees and fairways, and in some instance, the collars around the greens were chunky, unkempt and often covered with weeds.
-The beautiful and pristine sand traps, which can be seen in this old photo (http://i.cdn.turner.com/dr/golf/www/release/sites/default/files/imagecache/node-gallery-display/gallery_images/sep26-heron-bay_600x450_0.jpg) are now just a grey hole of ruddy, lumpy, messy silt and loam, with some dirt thrown in for good measure. I played this course often as a TPC track, and loved bringing clients here because the bunkers were playable. Being in one on this outing was horrible.
-Staff was still excellent, from the bag attendants to the guy in the proshop, and the starter and the beverage cart. Didn't want to ask how often people complain about conditions.
-2 of 5 stars for the course condition, with an extra 1/2 thrown in because you can still see the beauty beyond the bad.
-5 of 5 stars for the staff.
great course for the money, pace a little slow but great overall
will play this course anytime, nice driving range, GRASS!!!
A day at the beach
Past host for the Honda classic. The course is always in great shape. Not much water but a LOT of bunkers. Ball placement off the tee is critical.
Great layout
I am very surprised that the PGA Tour would leave such a great course, but that's the way it happens sometimes. Great course layout with some good challenges.
The course is in a good shape !
I was impressed with the 96 sand traps, all the greens were in very nice condition.
Sure, I will be come back !
This course contains over 100 bunkers so fairway and greenside bunker play are important.
The course was in great shape. I enjoyed the challenge of the bunkers although they got the better of me. The course demands that you place your ball in certain spots to score well.
The course was in good shape. The greens rolled true although a little slow.
This can be a very challenging course and I would recommend reviewing the yardages before you play and pick the correct tees. The fairways were in a little better shape than the greens.
Good sand play a must!
This is not a track for the faint-of-heart. Play from the tips or blue tees and long irons into some par fours will be required; plus many of the greens are surrounded by large traps. This makes distance and accuracy a must to keep your sanity.
Nice course
The course is we'll maintained. Nice greens. Wide open, except LOTS of sand. I'll play there again.
Loved the openness. Bunkers everywhere!
All three of us loved the course and we would love the opportunity to play ther4e again at that price.
This coarse means business!
If you want a true test of your golfing abilities, then Heron Bay is the place to play. Accuracy is required to avoid the massive and strategically placed bunkers. The greens are perfect and consistent on every hole. The staff will treat you like a true member for the day. A better test I haven't found.
Spring your sand wedge
Had the opportunity to play Heron Bay while on vacation and was quite impressed with conditions and t he course layout. Lots of traps on the course which calls for good course management. Greens were in great shape as well. I booked again later in the week just because it was so nice. We got behind a slow foursome and the marshal moved us up and ended up finishing in 3.5 hours. Can't beat that. I"ll be back for sure.
Good conditions, especially the greens. Sand traps also very consistent and numerous.
This course is in good shape, especially the greens. It is relatively flat and open with little water in play. However, every fairway has numerous bunkers that are placed to test accuracy of ball placement. I made more fairway bunker shots in one round that in my previous 15 games. The bunkers were quite playable however and I enjoyed the round.
