Great course but bad staff not involved in the process
The golfcourse is splendid and challenging as well.
Too bad the staff is not involved in the process (they looked tired and bored of what they are doing) always looking for the tips with no services !!! Easy money won't get you anywhere remember ?
Very sad mentality !!! Not pro-active at all.
Good challenge!
This course not reach his possibilities lack of maintenance.
course not in good condition
we began playing this course when it was a tpc. the conditions have changed dramatically in every aspect. weeds growing in fairways, groundskeepers indifferent to players(running mowers and weedwhackers while we were putting),trash strewn in bushes, and waterways, etc. the round we played took almost 5 hrs. there were no rangers...apparently no one monitoring the gps as we waited every shot. the restrooms were in disrepair out on the course. we will not be back. so sad to see a really nice course let go in this manner
Played the course when it first openned years ago and didn't enjoy it as much as I did this trip. The course has matured well.
I would recommend this course for handicaps between 5-20. A challenge to stay out of the many fairway bunkers, but still easy to get on the green in regulation, even from the bunkers. Greens are true and easy to read.
Too Diddicult For The Average Golfer
Heron Bay is one of South Florida's well known golf courses. The condition of the course was good, staff was friendly, pace of play was ok, but the average to weekend golfer will not enjoy Heron Bay. This course is filled with bunkers! Water comes into play on a limited basis, but you may stay in the sand all day. Advanced golfers should play Heron Bay. Everyone else should look for another track!
Course for everyone.
Other than an abundance of traps, I think this course is playable and fun to play by many skill levels. Pace of play was extemely slow thanks to two groups ahead of us that were extreme hackers, yet playing from the blue tees. Three guys in a row looped the ball in the water on one hole I watched. They need someone on the course to tell these guys to speed it up, and check their egos to match their level of play.
I found the course to be in much better shape then when I played it about 5 months ago. I would say it has improved tremendously. Especially the sand traps.
Course has a great history, not a great present.
I played this course a month ago and had a different time.
Just played the course again and was very disappointed. it was not a good experience. Cart girl at 2nd hole advised we could make a meal selection at the 8th hole from our cart. The other twosome had received a cart without GPS and we asked her to get a cart sent out. We had a GPS and there was a selection to ask for a replacement cart which we had done prior to seeing her.
No replacement cart ever showed up.
At turn, went to get requested meal from halfway house, person was indifferent at best. When we told them we had ordered from cart, he advised the GPS system does not work and then proceeded to fill other orders even though we had to go out to tenth hole to continue playing. Sandwich prepared was almost inedible, thoroughly saturated with mustard and very little turkey.
Other twosome went to replace cart for one with GPS. a backshop person helped them. On 13th hole, their cart lost power and we had to phone for replacement.
No marshall out mid afternoon on a Friday. Play was slow and often had two groups sitting on a tee. People were leaving before finishing out of frustration. Teed off at 1:10 and finished 5 hours later.
Overall service was lacking and indifferent. All this just killed the experience. Couple we were with will never return. My wife will never return either. It turned me off as well. More than enough other courses around to play. Expected much more from a Clublink property.
Course seemed in better shape a month ago. Needs flowers or vegetation to give it some life. rough was patchy and greens seemed a bit off.
Lots of traps.
Intimidating off the tee. 96 traps, every green is guarded.
Good course for the money
The course was in good shape, and the greens are large. There are fairway bunkers which can be a hassle if you don't drive it very straight.
Somewhat disappointed
This once was a TPC course and you can tell that it has been less attended to now that is not. For the size and value of the huge homes surrounding the course, I would be disappointed if I spent 1 million plus for a house on a golf course that is average. Holes are very non discript in their layout and although the course has water, barely any of it comes into play. I guess I was expecting more from a TPC design, but it wasnt one of the better courses we played on our trip to South Fla.
OK, but hard to believe it used to host a PGA event. Smelly bathrooms!
Course was in pretty good shape, and the staff was friendly, but a very boring layout. Without all of the bunkers, there would not be much creativity in the layout. One thing that will prevent me from coming back - the on-course bathrooms. I went into one and it had an overpowering urine smell and no ventilation. My playing partner went into the other bathroom on a different part of the course, and had the same experience. I wouldn't normally comment on golf course bathrooms, but they were just that bad.
Annoying course.
The 100 sand traps do not make a course design. The course was very dry and the greens not in good condition. If you hit it straight don't worryabout the score. The wind seems to be most difficulty of it; greens are very well protected and the shots to them sometimes though. 42$( Golfnow) is o.k. but certainly not 65$.
Very pleasant game ! speed of the game was perfect !
Very pleasant game ! speed of the game was perfect !
good overall experiance
Course was in good shape overall. Could use water in spots. greens fast and fair.
GREAT WEEKEND DEAL
GREENS WERE IN GREAT SHAPE. FAIRWAYS WERE ABOVE AVERAGE AND BUNKERS WERE WELL GROOMED THOUGH NOT RAKED BY FELLOW GOLFERS OF THE DAY! GOLFNOW DEAL FOR A SATURDAY ALONG WITH THIESE CONDITIONS MADE THIS A GREAT DEAL.
Beautiful course.
Wonderful value for money, I will most surely play here again.
Great Layout
Great layout, pick the proper set of tees, fun to play and good for all abilities.
Faded glory
I cannot believe that this place used to host a PGA Tour event. The conditions of this course reminded me more of my local muni than a Tour quality venue. Not well-manicured at all. The rough, which looked like Bermuda, had a healthy dose of dried and brown grass. This made it really easy to play out of, but then, what's the point of having rough? There were also little things that bothered us- half of the ball washers did not have any water in them and the golf cart did not run very well.
The greens were in decent shape, and the holes are surrounded by water which made for good scenery (even though they did not really come into play).
It's a decent course for the money (we paid $60) but for people who think they might be getting a steal for playing a PGA Tour quality venue- think again.
The staff was friendly except for the starter.
The course is very nice, well maintained and challenging but not unfair. The staff was all very friendly except for the starter who seemed disinterested in us because we weren't one of his regulars. It was our first time here and I noticed right away he was chatting up the group in front of us because they played here regularly but I had to ask him if it was our turn when it was 10 minutes past our tee time. I believe he just cut his buddies into our slot and pushed us back. The ladies running the beer cart were super friendly and really got around. It was a busy Sunday yet they got around to us at least 3 or 4 times during the round..
Play in the Sand
Almost every green is completely surrounded by sand traps, some fairways have bunkers on one side and the other is 300 yards of sand. The first cut rough is way too deep. Some tees need to be overseeded. Water is not a problem, its the first cut rough where you loose your balls.
