Golf Club At Terra Lago - South Course
About
Formerly known as Landmark Golf Club, the Golf Club at Terra Lago was the host of the PGA Tour Skins Game from 1999 to 2002. The club's impressive guest list includes Greg Norman, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods. There are two 18-hole courses available called the North and the South. At 7,044 yards, Terra Lago's South Course is just barely shorter than the 7,060-yard North Course but they are equally challenging. The South is known for having one of the club's most unique and memorable holes, the par-4 second. This narrow hole runs alongside a wide canal that makes anything hit to the right impossible to play. The unique part of the hole comes as you approach the green. To cross the creek, rather than having a traditional wood bridge, the course designer crafted a bridge from an old rail car, which explains its nickname as the "Boxcar" hole.

Course conditions
Course has obviously had some sort of issue as grass conditions on greens & fairways were terrible.. o like the course but don’t recommend playing it until the condos are resolved.
Why???
This course is a fantastic layout. The condition however is less than acceptable. This course could rival some of the better know courses in the area if they would only give it some love. Rough is better than fairways on many holes. Greens are fast and very difficult to read. I recommend playing at least once if you can get a deal. Full price is not worth it. Staff - the starter is great. Very nice and gets people moving. Cart crew is great as well, grabbed my clubs and were on the cart before I finished checking in. Check in guy - seemed like I was putting him out by checking in. Not a customer friendly person.
Amenities - None to speed of. Played the course for three days, never saw a beverage cart, on course water is available if you dare use them. The one I went to had a clogged drain and the sitting water had who knows what living in it. There is no “snack shack” as advertised on the course signage.
So why did I play thee times? Convenient.
A little disappointing
The weather was great and course layout was fine. Many of the fairway bunkers were in horrible shape with weeds, brush and standing water in them. The tee boxes were ok and even though the greens seemed to hold well they were inconsistent. The fringe around the greens was poor with clumps of new grass making the ball bounce around if you tried to putt through it. The fairways were a mixture of dormant and new patches of grass and even if you were in the middle of the fairway there was no guarantee of a good lie. Overall, a disappointing round.
Not great
Thin grass on fairways, greens slower than usual, some bunkers in poor condition. Course has gone significantly downhill from what is used to be. Many students from golf school on the course, they need to be taught to play more quickly. Students cut in front of us at 10th tee. No Marshall’s on the course. We won’t return
Frustrating pace of play.
Sadly all carts had to be returned by 4:30, so the 3-some ahead of us started playing 2 or 3 balls which slowed our 4 some. We only finished 15 holes before returning the carts. The fairways needed some serious growth!
Great Vistas
Good course at a fair price. Shame the admin insist on twilight tee times have carts returned for 4:30 when sunset was 5:10
Worst conditions ever
Not the first time playing this course however this is the worst conditions ever. No maintenance in bunkers, fairways are not good. The rough is in better greener condition. For a resort style course I would use two words to describe. Cow Pasture. If you are going to charge for a premium course then the conditions should be represented of such a fee. If I knew then what I know now I would not have paid more than 20.00 to play this poorly maintained course.
Some of the greens also have weed issues. I could go on and on. Overall I rate this at no more than one star.
Lastely no beverage cart service the day we played. Look we spend 700.00 on a group to play this course from players coming from different states booked in advance. I have played lots of courses in the area for the last 10 years and this place is off my list.
Terrible Condition
Don’t bother club house staff terrible. Course condition is terrible no grass in fairways . Greens dead in many areas sand traps had no sand and not maintained . Several broken irrigation lines so areas unplayable. Avoid this course.
Disappointment
Could be Covid related, but this place is in poor condition compared to two years ago. Rough is better than the fairways. Bunkers unmanaged.
Slow play
We played yesterday and over 4 hours we gave up and did not play last 2 holes.
Staff were friendly but not informative, no idea of practice areas, and I told them we were first timers
No Marshall or player aid drove by the entire time , so I guess this is the norm here.
I’m a high handicap and find the layout difficult with the tiny greens. Will not play here again.
Perhaps if there was some flow to the round it may have been a better experience.
Great layout
I played this course two years ago. It was in excellent condition. Unfortunately the course is in very poor condition now. Extremely wet, bare to thin grass in fairways, and greens were full of poanna.
I played the course on 1/10 remembering how good the course was two years ago. I would not recommend playing it now.
Sunday Afternoon Golf
The course is in similar shape as in the past few years. Most of the greens are in good shape. A few could use some work. The fairways are only fair. A lot of bare areas. Pace of play, while probably close to average, was slightly slower than we are used to playing.
Great Desert Course
Great layout, friendly staff and good pace of play in the desert. Had a good Tywin family!
Poor course conditions
On the positive side, pace of play was good, we finished in 4:10 & could have been a little faster except for one doddler in the foursome ahead of us. He alone backed up the course by a full hole.
There was a marshal on 7 when we were moving well but didn’t see him again until 17 when he said they were behind but to get done in just over 4 hrs was good.
The greens aren’t in great shape but not awful. They are very undulating & not easy.
The bad is the lack of grass on the fairways, they are very sparse. Also a lot of very wet or muddy spots on the fairways. The bunkers are also crap unless you like clay.
It is a good layout & would be a really good play but with such bad fairway conditions it’s not worth more than $50
