Greens condition Photo submitted by manuelbravo on 09/06/2017
dry
I've played here for several years. The drought in California has taken it's toll on this course, but they still try and maintain it the best they can. The greens, however, are very good. They used to have problems with various speeds on the greens, but that's been fixed. Stay in the fairway and you get some grass to hit off of. Venture off the fairway and you get lots of trees and dead grass, even dirt, to hit off of. Was very hot the day I played, but still a lot of fun and a very nice layout.
Castle Creek - don;t waste your time
I was looking for a quick round during a business trip. That's about all it was, quick. No one was on the coarse. It's in terrible shape, from the tees through the fairways and greens. Bare dirt everywhere. Golfnow was $25 and the normal rate us $40. Can't believe this place is in business.
Always a good course to play
Challenging but fair course. I'd say the back nine is a little tougher than the front (more elevation changes and a bit tighter from the tees. There are a few forced carriers on both front and back, but nothing that would be problematic.
Greens rolling pretty nicely however; on the 10th green there were some dead spots on the edges of the left side of green.
Pretty nice discount booking through GN. Check it out if you haven't been there. It's right off the I-15 freeway just north of Lawrence Welk.
Reasonable for the price.
Some holes in very good condition, others not so good, Greens were a little inconsistent in speed.
Almost never crowded.. A good round at a good pace..
Great value.. Reasonable turf considering the drought conditions. A couple of the toughest par 5's you will find anywhere.. I wish it had a practice range though..
could be a great course
I have played here for years. The course was in pretty good shape until recently. The greens are still in great shape, but the fairways and surrounding area is terrible.
One men's club member tiold me they are going to start using lif, clean, and place for the course....
This could be one of the best courses in the area if they would put some money into it. You can see where the fairway sprinklers are not close to covering the area thay should. FIX these sprinlers, overseed, put sand in the traps and this will bring the players. Fix it and they will come.
A challenging course!
The greens and tee boxes were in excellent condition but the fairways reflected the California water shortage; less green than brown. The course offers some very challenging holes and playing the course previously is a real benefit. Some long, narrow fairways lined with very mature trees reward accuracy with the driver. And as the name implys, there is the creek to deal with on several holes. The only downside to yesterday's round was the temperature; it was hotter than a tabernacle!
Good under the conditions
Considering the drought conditions hereabouts, Castle Creek was in decent shape. The fairways were playable for the most part although in some cases on the back nine they were packed and dry. Water hazards were nearly empty but that was OK as I played out of two.
A gem at one time.
Course layout was very good. As with many courses the up keep is lagging with with the economic down turn.
Great day at the Crick!
I played Monday as a single in about 3 hours and shot my best round at CC. The starter let me tee off well before my Hot Deal time so I was able to beat the rush hour traffic home. The only negative was I had to dodge the Maint workers doing their mowing. Some were courteous but some couldn't give a bleep and wouldn't move when I hit. The course was in so-so shape, but playable! I've never been that impressed with the greens here. Some are nice, some have quite a few blemishes. Fun Course! Great Price! Great Score!
Mixed Bag
While the greens were receptive and in decent shape with the exception of some diseased areas that need to be fixed the fairways were abysmal. There are many bare spots in the fairways and rough The ground was as hard as rock. When you have to hit a shot off a rock hard fairway you really need all of your concentration on that shot only. There were many dead areas of trees on the course that need to be removed quickly as they will infect the rest of nearby trees.
Fun course to play
Greens are in good shape and roll true. Just would like other players to repair their ballmarks. For the price this is a must play. Tree lined fairways on 10 and 11 require a well placed tee shot. I take my boys here often because the price allows the 3 of us to enjoy a day of golf at a reasonable price.
Nice Course in Rugh Shape
Title sums it up. Interesting but hurt by drought.
Disrespectul, Lazy and Incompetent Staff
I'm an early tee-time person. If I have, for instance, a 5:54 tee time, I expect the pro-shop to be open, at a minimum, by my tee time. This pro shop is NEVER...and I mean NEVER, open on time for the first tee time. Again, I'm not talking occasionally. I mean NEVER. There's always a group of miffed golfers bum-rushing the door when the shop finally opens. Late.
I've golfed here at least two dozen times in the last couple of years and it's always the same story. I keep giving them a pass because I've been too kind to write a bad review and sometimes the cart barn guy just tells me to tee off, and I pay when I finish.
But then, I have to wait, green-by-green as they are mowed and the holes are prepared. This work should be complete before the first golfer arrives at the hole.
When I complain, I get no apology or any indication that anyone cares. Last time, the kid behind the desk blamed it on Golf Now. What !?!?
I've had enough. Castle Creek's entire attitude toward their customers is one of incompetence, disrespect and laziness.
could be a gem
s a lot of work, but there are some bright spots. The greens are in fairly good condition but the fairways are dry. You can see where the sprinklers need work as the area aaround them is green, but that is only an 8 foot diameter. NO SAND in traps. This could be a great course with water and sand aadded, but do not believe it is a value unless you get a deal. PLEASE fix the sprinklers as this could be one of the best in north county San Diego with a little effort.
Nice course for the price
The course was challenging with lots of creek, water, and traps. Some holes hard to see where it was going, especially playing it for the first time. Signs at T-box helped figure out the hole. Greens were in good shape.
Good layout, ok conditon
Basic public Links course. Not high quality maintenance but enough to distinguish the fairway. I wouldn't play full fair for this but at a discount it was fine. If you lower your expectations then you'll enjoy your round. The course didn't have any goofy golf holes (like teeing off a par 5 with a 6 iron) so I, a 5 handicap, had fun.
L.A. visitor
course in good shape, some greens were in great shape, others had several dry areas.
play here often and the pro shop NEVER opens before 6am and the course NEVER opens before 6 so the maintenance crew can get the course prepared for play.
get your facts correct....
Dear Mr. Smith,
