Should be called Castle Tree!
Haven't played here in years! Course conditions not so hot but if want challenge of strategically placed trees then this your spot! If your not accurate off the tee then plan on hitting a lot of "medicine" shots cause this course will make you feel I'll!
Not worth the drive
The course was in very poor shape. I had played the course in previous years and I can say the overall quality has slipped a LOT. The greens were "chewed up", old ball marks and just not kept up. The fairways had dead spots in many areas, again not kept up. The water areas were about 1/3 full and looked nothing like the pictures on their website. The staff left a lot to be desired. I played during the middle of the week, it's mostly not managed, you get your golf cart, you begin when you want, however they have members that can play how they want, cut in your round, etc. If you try and do anything to accommodate the members your stopped and questioned, very unprofessional. The sign says that it's one of San Diego's four finest golf courses, this must have been when San Diego had only four courses. Bottom line there are more courses that are better and offer a better value.
Riversidegolfer
The course was in poor condition. The greens were "chewed" up with many unfixed ball marks. The staff was totally disorganized and unable to keep the pace of play and golfers organized which led to unnecessary confusion. I played during the week, I cannot even imagine what it would be like to play on a weekend. In the past playing here wasn't too bad, now it is not worth the money and aggravation, there are too many other nearby courses that are a better value and experience.
Great Overall Course
This course was well worth the cost. It's challenging yet fun to play. Staff was awesome
Where's The Sand
The course was in "ok" shape with most of the fairways showing patches of brown. My biggest complaint is that there was no sand in the sand traps. They weren't really filled with anything. It was just dirt basically that was very difficult to get out of because if you really opened up the face of your sand wedge it would "bounce" and you wound up skulling it across the green. This course could use a makeover and it might not be too bad.
CCGC
Course was empty. Played at a good pace just under 4 hrs. Course is in fair shape some bare or tight lies in the fairways and the greens are ok not great not bad.
Quick 9 Holes - Can't beat it!
We were looking for somewhere inland North County that we could go to take in a quick 9 holes on Sunday morning. Pace of play was relaxed and the weather warmed up pretty quickly. Really enjoyed it. I'd go again. Course really made me feel good about my game.
Elevation changes but all downhill!
Played here on Father's Day weekend. I made a tee time and no one notified me of a tournament taking place. Over 5 hours to play. Rocks in sand traps. No sand at all. No drink cart. Started at 2:00 and when we made the turn the snack bar was closed. Signs everywhere not in English. Grounds staff was very unfriendly. Guy in pro shop was very nice though. It is my understanding that this course is for sale. Someone save it please! Has so much potential. Sad to see owners not care.
needs some work
Super slow greens! hadn't been mowed for days. anything outside 5 feet was hit and pray, so bumpy and slow it was pretty ridiculous. Fairways ok, tee boxes unlevel and pretty bad, bunkers were a joke. I'm gonna stay away for quite some time unless I get a smoking deal and hear the place has turned around in the condition.
Course Needs Alot of Work.
up hill lies, down hill lies, side hill lies. Alll to be expected on a course, just not in the tee box, bunkers are rock not sand do not waste your time or your wedge trying to get out of theses disasters. all of the pumps were off in the ponds and the smell was interesting. Play was slow and the marshall was no where in sight..
Excellent Greens and Tee Boxes
Course is in excellent condition right now which is almost unbelievable given the weather that San Diego has had this year so far. Greens are in great shape. Best value in SD that I've found so far.
Greens are in very good condition.
Greens were in excellent condition. It's clear that effort and attention has been placed on them. Pace of play was great. 3 hour round for our threesome.
NIce greens....very poor fairways.....
Got a good rate, and glad we did. The greens are in very nice shape, the fairways on the other hand, are dreadful. The grass is patchy at best, and way too short, or non existent in some other spots. Holes 10, 11 , and 12 are almost so difficult they are not fun. If they keep the rates around 30 bucks, just barely worth the drive from San Diego, if above this, not so much. Hey Castle Creek, FIX YOUR FAIRWAYS!!!!!! Could be a great course.
Greatly improved course
We hadn't played here in about 6 months. Boy! They have really been working on this course. The greens were super; the overall condition of the course was the best I've seen in years. Staff was very cordial. We're planning to play here more often.
Perfect day!
I haven't played Castle Creek in a couple of years. Wow, what a pleasant surprise! The course is beautiful. Even though we have just experienced extreme heat, the course and greens were in excellent shape. The trees lining the fairways made sure you hit it straight and all the sand traps and pond made you think about your approach shots. The rolling greens made putts challenging and the scenic setting in the hills made the golf day fun for all of us. I would highly reccommend this course. I know you will enjoy the layout and the scenery.
Just a few changes
I like this course. The location, pricing, condition and most of the major factors are good. But I'm starting to hate the start of the back nine. The start of the back nine is three narrow hallways of trees for 10, 11, and 12. I'm always guaranteed to hit the trees once or twice. Maybe I'm a hack, but you're lucky to even find your ball, let alone play it. Those three holes always ruin my back nine.
Good value in a remote location
This is an excellent older course in the remote area north of Escondido. The fairways feature rather long grass, but the greens were cut close and were both quick and true. This would be an easy course from the forward tees, but as the tees move back, they get appreciably harder, especially noting the many now-mature trees lining the narrow fairways.
Good value course
My 2nd favorite course in East County. 2nd only to Mt. Woodson. The course is beatiful, lots of vegetation and hilltop views. Nice design. Only negatives are that there is no cart girl, no driving range and fairways 10,11 and 12 are a bit close to each other.
Definitely, recommend checking it out!
challenging and great deal
The course is great for all levels. It can be very challenging if you stray off some of the narrow fairways into the trees, but also has some very wide open fairways. Great location with views of the surrounding hills. Greens are kept up, fairwaysa are okay.My only complaint is the cut immediately surrounding the greens is more like a 3rd cut. Very long and thick. Same with cut immediately surrounding some of the fairways. A little more attention to the grass mowing in these areas would be nice. Also, real sand in the bunkers instead of raked dirt. Overall though, I like playing there. It's a good course, great area and price. I would definitely recommend it. Can't beat 30 bucks including cart on golfnow.
